Allis-Chalmers Annual Review 1944
1 Allis-Chalmers Annual Review 1944
Milawukee, Wisconsin Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company 1944 Annual, 1944 Card cover Very Good condition
This is a wonderful wartime report from Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing covering all aspects of the business including power generation; power distribution; processing items such as metals, coal, rock products, cement, forest products, petroleum, rubber, chemicals, food, and solvent oil; industrial; construction and agriculture; and transportation. The book is over-sized at 8-1/2"x 11" and has 80 pages. Minor small horizontal creases to spine, likely endemic to the publishing process, but otherwise clean and tightly bound. There is also a letter laid-in to accompany it. The book does have text, but it's the photographs and technical drawings that command your attention. VERY nice and not commonly found.

Hartman Stock Farm Horse Department 1905 (Columbus, Ohio)
5 Hartman Stock Farm Horse Department 1905 (Columbus, Ohio)
Columbus, Ohio Hartman Stock Farm 1904 soft cover Very good condition
This is a horse lover's information/advertising book issued by S.C. and M.D. Hartman, importers and breeders of Percheron Draft and German Coaching horses for their Columbus, Ohio farm. The Hartmans also operated a poultry department, but the only reference to that here is a full page color ad and a few pictures of outbuildings and a couple pages of info. The spotlight is definitely on the horses. Contents include, among other topics, these: the Barb, or the horse of the Sahara; an anatomical study of the horse; a study of the mouth of a horse; description and illustrations of Hartman Farm; origin of the Percheron; imported Percherons, home bred Percherons; and the German coach horse. Book is clean and tightly bound, measures 7-1/2" x 10" and has 189 pages printed on quality coated paper. Only faults are a spine crease and a bit of light foxing to exterior page edges. Otherwise quite good. Hard to find.

Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 44 pages. Covers the following towns: Atwater, Aurora, Brimfield, Charlestown, Deerfield, Edinburg, Mantua, Palmyra, Paris, Randolph, Ravenna, Rootstown, Shalersville, Streetsboro, Suffield and Windham.

The American Poultry School Course in Poultry Husbandry Vol. I Books 1-5, 1928
11 The American Poultry School Course in Poultry Husbandry Vol. I Books 1-5, 1928
Kansas City, Missouri The American Poultry School 1928 soft cover Good
Charming covers and lots of serious information in these five booklets numbered consecutively 1 to 5. This was a HUGE course. I'm not sure how many booklets it takes to compile a set, but I've seen them numbered in the high 30's. I have not, however, ever seen the first five all at once, so these are pretty cool. Each booklet is a stand alone and these cover the following topics: the poultry industry, poultry farm management, intensive poultry culture, small poultry farms; principles of poultry house construction; modern poultry houses, equipment and appliances; breeds and varieties of poultry; and the principles of mating and breeding. All booklets are clean and tightly bound, but pages have toned on the ones using high acid paper and one booklet shows water marks around the margins of a page with no wrinkling - otherwise they a quite nice set. Booklets measure 6"x9" and vary in length. All are illustrated with photographs and drawings. If you are trying to fill in a set let me know, as I do have some single issues also.

Trade With the World's People: A Shaker Album
13 Trade With the World's People: A Shaker Album
Pleasant Hill, Kentucky Beckett Paper Company 1976 card cover Very Fine
This is in amazing condition -- so crisp and clean it feels like new and looks like new. It even retains it's outer envelope as well as the three extra items which accompany the booklet. They are a stencil for Shaker tomatoes, a fold-out advertisement for the famous Shaker seeds, and a small booklet which explains how and why the whole package was designed and manufactured. I have seen the booklet before, but never with all its accoutrements. The booklet is wonderful --color art and text about the entrepreneurial skills of the Shakers. The "handwritten" area you can see in the picture is a samples of correspondence between customers and the Shakers -- there are also others. Very nice historical memorabilia item. (Bus.)

Twin Disc Clutches Engineering Data (Circa 1930's)
14 Twin Disc Clutches Engineering Data (Circa 1930's)
Rcine, Wisoncin Twin Disc Clutch Company No date (see below) Hard cover Very good condition
I wish I had a concrete date for this publication, but I went through every page only to find nothing. I'm very sure though that this derives from the 1930's because I bought it with several similar items from the same person and all are from the mid-30's. The Twin Disc clutches were for automobiles, trucks, tractors, aircraft, industrial and road building machinery. Several models are included along with technical drawings for each. The booklet measures 9-1/2" x 11-1/4". The only fault is edge wear -- one small area to top front edge next to spine and a tiny one to lower front corner. Overall nice.

Zenoleum Sheep Dip Ad and Envelope 1898
15 Zenoleum Sheep Dip Ad and Envelope 1898
Detroit, Michigan The Zenner-Raymond Disinfectant Company 1898 Very good
The bright color of this ad and its matching envelope caught my attention immediately, but after reading it it occurred to me that I have never had anything produced by Zenner-Raymond until now. The ad is complete as you see it, printed only on the front, and fits inside the envelope which measures 3-1/2"x6". Love the bold exterior message: Zenoleum Sheep Dip Is Not Poisonous." The postmark reads Detroit April 28, 1898 -- the ad was created from an 1897 study conducted by the State Agricultural College at Fort Collins, Colorado. Nice addition to an agriculture collection

Garden city, New York Doubleday and Company Inc. 1983 0385182783 / 9780385182782 Card cover Nunn, Janet
Fun little stocking stuffer book which measures 5-1/4" in diameter. It's all about 1983 filled with facts of what the world was doing back then. But it's especially interesting to compare the then and now. The chapters are these: Pay Day; Staying in Touch, It's A Bad, Bad World; Accidents Will Happen; The Global Garbage Pile; Friend Or Foe; and A Day in the World 2000. The art is great and plentiful -- black and white, but very good graphics. 126 round pages.

The two women, who owned the Wonder Worm Famers and wrote this book offer much information and black and white photos. There is also a five page leaflet laid-in titled "My Grandfather's Earthworm Farm." Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 24 pages plus the extra leaflet.
