Color Postcard All-American Chevrolet Soap Box Derby Parade Confetti (1960's Akron, Ohio)
5 Color Postcard All-American Chevrolet Soap Box Derby Parade Confetti (1960's Akron, Ohio)
Boston, Mass. ColorPicture circa 1960's Fine
This card is fabulous! There's no date on it because it's unused, but I grew up in Akron, Ohio and I know I was at this parade when I was a kid because we never missed it. I know it's from the 60's too because that's when Chevrolet sponsored the Soap Box Derby and that was when the Derby was a REALLY BIG DEAL. The parade was heading up Main Street with the truck positioned between the two department stores, Polsky's and O'Neil's, which were right across the street from each other. I still remember the thrill of the flying confetti! Card will arrive in a plastic sleave

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Cuyahoga Falls 175th Anniversary Committee 1987 Hard cover Very Good Not issued
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio does love a party, so every 25 years they throw one. This one from 1987 celebrates the town's Supersextus Sesquicentennial. Can't say I have ever run across a Suspersextus Sesquicetennial, but here it is. The book is hard cover with a dark blue pebbled cover decorated with gilt at face. Inside are numerous black and white photographs printed on quality coated paper and a full color section at the back showing residents having fun at the event. The text tells some history and also highlights the town's attributes. Measures 9"x11-1/4" and has 138 pages.

8 Cuyahoga Falls Sesquicentennial Cloth Banner and Sesquicentennial Program (Ohio, 1962)
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio City of Cuyahoga Falls soft cover Very good
This is such a fun find. I've had the sesquicentennial book a couple times, but I've never seen the cloth banner. Yet here they are together from the same previous owner. The banner is quite large at 27"x36" and is printed on one side. There is a small section at the lower right corner where the thread seems a little dirty on the hem, but otherwise it's crisp and clean. The program shows a little wear, but not much, and has no names or writing. Inside there is a laid-in certificate with no name filled in for the Cuyahoga Falls Area Jubilee Belles. The program measures 8-1/2"x11" and is filled with historical photographs in black and white, plus historical info and info about the town's celebration. 90 pages. Sells as a set and ships for $2 in the U.S..

Dainty Dishes The Church of Christ Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Building Fund Cookbook
10 Dainty Dishes The Church of Christ Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Building Fund Cookbook
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Ladies of the Church of Christ Unknown soft cover Good
Very clean and tightly bound cookbook published to raise money for the church's building fund. There is no date for it, so I tried to do a little sleuthing, but the only church with that precise name was building in the 1960's and this booklet precedes that by decades. I then tried looking up the businesses which supplied ads, but again, not much luck. The only company that appeared was the C.H. Yeager Company which came to Akron in 1906 and changed its name to Yeager Company in 1946. The ad shows the old name, so again, it's clearly before 1946. Judging by the lack of digits in the phone numbers the booklet was published fairly early in the 20th century. The recipes are for light fare -- Hungarian potato salad, strawberry salad, marshmallow pudding, raspberry shrub and many more. Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 46 pages. Only faults are loss of bottom back corner which has snapped off at the point and a little browning to a few pages due to extra recipes laid-in. There even one for homemade dry cleaning!

Festival Book and Programs Blossom Music Center Eleventh Season 1978 Cleveland Orchestra
11 Festival Book and Programs Blossom Music Center Eleventh Season 1978 Cleveland Orchestra
Cleveland Edward Howard Company 1978 Hard cover Very Good condition
Blossom Music Center of Akron, Ohio has welcomed the annual summer festival of music by the Cleveland Orchestra for decades. I have been there many times and yet I have never seen this book before. There are great area ads at the front and info on Blosson, but the real core of the book is the programs bound-in from the entire 1978 season and the program notes spanning June 20th to September 8. Among the stars were guest conductor Henry Mancini, the San Francisco Ballet, and the Cleveland Orchestra Boys' Choir. Book measures 6-1/2" x 9" and is not paginated. It's very clean and tightly bound with what appears to be a repair to lower front corner which is holding well. (Entertainment II)

Handcolored Postcard Residence of Z. Davis North Market Street Canton, Ohio
13 Handcolored Postcard Residence of Z. Davis North Market Street Canton, Ohio
Brooklyn, New York The Albertype Co. Circa 1907 Very good
This is a very pretty card, completely hand colored showing the Victorian residence of one Z. Davis of North Market Street, Canton Ohio. The card was made by the Ambrotype Company, but it's a bit tricky to date it, as there is no postmark. I think the definitive clue is the divided back which was not allowed by the postal service until 1907. The card was never mailed, but reads To Nettie xxx, From Jack. Will arrive in a plastic sleeve. Many Canton,Ohio cards available.

Ice Coupon Book The ServICE Delivery Co., Akron, Ohio (1920's)
16 Ice Coupon Book The ServICE Delivery Co., Akron, Ohio (1920's)
Akron, Ohio Serv-ICE Delivery Company Unknown card cover Fine
Paper addict that I am, I had never seen a book of coupons for ice coupons until I got this one. My first guess at this was WRONG, so here's an amended listing. Clue #1 was the six digit phone number which was common for urban areas from the 20's to the 50's. The second clue I missed altogether and that was the picture of the ice box on the back which dates it to the 20's or 30's! It has nothing to do with rationing and WWII. Interestingly enough, the ServICE Delivery Company of Akron, Ohio is still in the ice business. This book of coupons is unused -- no names or writing and no coupons missing. The total value of the book is 5000 pounds of ice. The tickets are color coded to show the amount requested-- pink is 200 lbs, green is 100, yellow is 50, and gold is 25 lbs. The book measures 2-1/2"x5" and has four coupons per page. Nice Akron collectible. I also have one for the Irvington Ice and Coal Company of Indianapolis.

Ice Cream Ephemera: Waldorf Ice Cream, Wm. E. Kay & Sons (Akron and Elyria, Ohio, 1920's)
17 Ice Cream Ephemera: Waldorf Ice Cream, Wm. E. Kay & Sons (Akron and Elyria, Ohio, 1920's)
Akron, Ohio; Elyria, Ohio Waldorf Ice Cream; Wm. E. Kay and Sons 1920's soft cover Very good condition
I got these two ice cream items together, so I decided to keep them that way. The first item is a leaflet advertising the Universal Ice Cream Cutting Machine manufactured by Wm. E. Kay & Sons. The leaflet measures 6" x 9" with a photo on the front and two on the back. The inside discusses the ice cream cutter's construction, size, operation, adjustment, sanitary features and a guarantee. There's also a testimonial from the Richwine Ice Cream Company. The second item is very attractive and creative from the Waldorf Ice Cream company of Akron -- all pastel colored art showing fabulous desserts. It measures 4-1/2" x 7-1/2" with 20 counted pages. Leaflet shows a vertical crease from having been folded in half -- otherwise clean and nice. The booklet is pristine inside, but does show some rubbing to top as well as a small bit of stubborn dirt. Overall nice. (ADVERT.)

John Brown Homestead, Akron, Ohio Postcard 1913
18 John Brown Homestead, Akron, Ohio Postcard 1913
1913 Very Good
Very pretty depiction of an Akron, Ohio landmark. The card is very nice in its plastic sleeve and retains a one cent stamp which covers the manufacturer's name. Only fault is a small bit of bleed-through from the postmark visible above the roof of the house - minor. The card was sent to Lodi, Ohio and the message (with errors) is as follows: "Am feeling fine. How is the weather their? I have my sweater coat on in the house. Bertha and Charlie went to Cleveland this morning. I will half to work Monday night. Sat. night was a busy one. Be home Sat. night some time. Arthur K."

Marriage Certificate Booklet Henry J. Burnett Elizabeth Anderson Akron, Ohio 1913
20 Marriage Certificate Booklet Henry J. Burnett Elizabeth Anderson Akron, Ohio 1913

Charming marriage certificate booklet printed in 1900 and used in 1913 and then given to the couple as a memento from the church in which they were married -- Trinity Lutheran of Akron, Ohio. Tied with a cord and filled with pretty period flowers and flourishes, poems, and religious admonitions. It's thirteen pages of turn-of-the century charm -- and large too at 6"x7-1/2" The clear, easy to read handwriting declares that it certifies that Henry J. Burnett and Miss Elizabeth K. Anderson were united in Holy Matrimony on the third day of December, 1913 at the minister's residence. It's signed only by E.W. Simon, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Akron, Ohio. The booklet shows mild soiling to back cover and creasing to last page and back cover at same lower corner, as well as a small tear to outer back edge of cover. Pages are lovely. A pretty piece of the past.
