Ken Magazine August 25, 1938 (Hemingway, Jack London, Germany, the Reich)
1 Ken Magazine August 25, 1938 (Hemingway, Jack London, Germany, the Reich)
Chicago Ken Inc. 1938 Vol. 2, No. 4 Soft cover Very Good
Ken magazine launched on April 7, 1938 via the founders of Esquire, but it lasted just a scant two years with two issues a month. It was political and controversial, so much so that Ernest Hemingway stopped writing for it after 14 issues. He's here in this issue though with an article titled Good Generals Hold the Line. The magazine is oversized at 10" x 13-1/2" with 86 pages. Other articles include the price of a debut for young women, Microbes Join the Army, Safe Government Broadcasting, Prelude To American Fascism, a nice article about author, Jack London, and more. Magazine is in good, clean, tightly bound condition. Two small flat creases to upper front corner and a scratch to green area on model's forehead. Very attractive overall.

Ken Magazine Second Issue April 21, 1938, De Kraif, Paul (editor) et al
2 De Kraif, Paul (editor) et al Ken Magazine Second Issue April 21, 1938
Chicago Ken Inc. 1938 Volume I, No. 2 soft cover Very good condition
Very handsome copy of the second issueof Ken magazine. I also have the first one and it's on here at this writing. Ernest Hemingway hds been demoted from editorship to contributor which I suspect he could not care less about. His article in this issue is titled, "Dying Well or Badly". The whole issue is pretty much focused on the dangerous atmosphere in Europe. Other articles include: What Price English Justice; The Secret Fuse Under Mexico; Fascism's New World Thrust; Mussolini vs. His Past; Inside the Queerest Shipwreck; Norway, The Next Belgium; and Bidding the Theatre Guild Goodbye. The latter was due to no new hits, one hit in which the Guild had only half ownership; and four flops. Magzine is clean and nice with a little scratching to upper front corner. It measures 10-1/2" x 13-1.2" and has 106 pages.

3 Hemingway, Ernest Ken Magazine May 5, 1938. Spanish Children Refugees.Nazi Propaganda Industry
Chicago, Ilinois Ken Inc. 1938 Vol. 1 No. 3 Soft cover Fine condition
This magazine is so clean, tightly bound, beautifully kept and has 29 full pages of photographs. the one that caught my eyes was the group of Catholic religious men. Most stood as normal while several did the Hitler salute (see photo). Among the many stories there's these: British sailors caring for 35 Spanish refugee orphans as cargo in a boat; How Hitler Conquered England; The Nazi Propaganda Industry; Molokai's sanitary leper island and more. The magazine measures 10-1/2" x 1-1/2" and has 106 pages.

4 Hemingway, Ernest; Gingrich, Arnold (editor) Ken Magazine April 7, 1938 Volume I, Number 1 (Premier Issue)
Chicago Ken Inc. 1938 Volume I, No. 1 soft cover Very good condition
Very supple paper and very few small faults to include a tiny tear to side edge of front cover which I repaired on the back with a piece of almost invisible archival tape and a flat superficial crease to upper front cover. Magazine is oversized at 10-3/4" x 13-1/2" with a strong concentration on the news from England, Spain, Germany, Morocco, and Panama. Topics include:the coming Moroccan revolt; Allal El Fassi, the Hitler of Morocco; ordnance workers (munitions); venereal diseases in the military; the peril at Panama; Nazis hedging against Hitler; England's secret government; and Hitler hunts for a wife. Ernest Hemingway's article is titled "The Time Now, the Place Spain."
