Postcard Fire Department Headquarters, Indianapolis, Ind.
2 Postcard Fire Department Headquarters, Indianapolis, Ind.
Indianapolis, Indiana Majestic Publishing Company circa early 1900's Good-plus condition
What a colorful and interesting scene this is. Not only does it show a handsome fire station, but also vehicles, fire fighters, and the horse power that fueled the machinery. The card shows a tiny bit of corner wear and writing on divided back. It was never sent, but it has been written on across the dividing line with no attempt at an address. The writing is a little hard to read, but the gist of it is the writer was busy with company and likes the recipient's choice of cards. Nothing too exciting there, but the picture at the front is great. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Great action image of the New York City Fire Department fighting a 1921 blaze. There's no indication as to what part of the city it was, as the reverse side shows no explanation, no message, and no postage. The back is not divided and the only writing is a penciled note which reads "N.Y. City Fire Dept, 1921" and a number, perhaps from an earlier dealer. The back also shows a bit of paper adhered to left hand side, likely from having been tipped into an album. Card is over-sized at 3-3/4" x 6". will arrive in plastic sleeve.

Real Postcard Seville, Ohio Flood March 25, 1913
4 Real Postcard Seville, Ohio Flood March 25, 1913
Seville, Ohio C. Burkholder 1913 Very good condition
This sepia real photo postcard shows a glimpse of the small town of Seville, Ohio located in Medina County. The date was March 25, 1913, the second to the last of the disaster which began on the 23rd and ended on the 26th. It was called The Great Flood not only because of the devastation, but because it was also widespread hitting not only Ohio, but also Indiana, Kentucky, New York and Pennsylvania. I'm not sure what street this is, but two signs show the Livery and Gabe's Restaurant, both of which are at left. There's some people by the restaurant and one vehicle on the right. The card has bot been used and was printed on AZO paper. Will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Peace or Atomic War? 1958, Albert Schweitzer
5 Albert Schweitzer Peace or Atomic War? 1958
United States Henry Holt 1958 First Edition Stated Hard cover Very good condition Very Good dustjacket 5-1/2
This small booklet has only 47 pages, but it's in hard cover with a nice dustjacket which will arrive in a brand new mylar cover. The booklet measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" with clean paper and no writing or underlining. Three appeals broadcast from Oslo, Norway on April 28, 29, and 30, 1958. Schweitzer said then: At this stage we have the choice of two risks. The one lies on continuiong the mad atomic arms-race, with its danger of an avoidable atomic war in the near future. The other in the renunciation of nuclear weapons and in the hope that the Unted States and the Soviet Union, and the people associated with them, will manage to live in peace. The first holds no hope of a prosperous future, the second does. We must risk the second.

The Story of Hurricane Cleo (1964), Compiled By Globe News Company
6 Compiled By Globe News Company The Story of Hurricane Cleo (1964)
Fort Lauderdale, Florida Globe News Company 1964 soft cover Very good
Oversized booklet measuring 11" by 9" and featuring 58 pages lavishly illustrated with black and white photographs of the disaster. Clean as a whistle inside and out with one tiny tear to outer edge of front cover and a bit of stubborn soil to upper right corner. Includes significant text, as well as a very nice fold-out map which outlines the storm's path. Cleo blasted Key Biscayne and roared along the Florida coast via State Rte. 7 with winds gusting to 110 miles per hour. The devastation was enormous and included Storyland, a popular children's theme park of the day which was never rebuilt. The storm also marks the only time in its history that the Fort Lauderdale News (the precursor of the Sun-Sentinel) failed to publish. The power was out so long that pressmen were unable to melt the lead for the linotype machines. Employees and their finished, but unpublished, copy were forced to spend the night in the newspaper office sleeping on desk tops. Photos are wonderful -- among them are a lone mannequin standing in the window of a blown-out building with an amazed fireman gazing in, a desolate street strewn with women's shoes, and two forlorn men sitting outside a a Shell station which had, appropriately enough, lost it's S. Text is very well written and includes much detail. An interesting piece of Florida history.

The artistic design of this item is beautiful and unique, but the design also speaks to the story and the long trek of a young boy who tells of how he and his family become immigrants walking for miles and miles from home. After reading he boy's words the accordian goes back to its beginning and the boards can be tied with the ribbons provided. 13 No author stated Four Dark Days in History; A Photo History of President Kennedy's Assassination
Los Angeles, CA. Special Publications Inc. 1963 Collectors' Edition soft cover Very good condition The Evening Star, Washington D.C.
This is a common publication, but a very good one for looking back at the death of President Kennedy and also looking at it for the first time. The photographs are very large and tell the story greatly with the help of the text and the captions under the photos. It begins with the breakfast in Texas and the president's final talk. Fromthere a few pages are given to the motorcade until the shots hit the president. The story goes on until the funeral is over and the the First Lady takes the American flag presented to her. The last items are the Congrssional Record for both the House and the Senate. The booklet measures 8-1/4" x 10-3/4" and has 59 counted pages. The binding is secure and there are no creases or writing. The only fault is a little wavines on to edge of the pages -- no water marks.

Hussom who drew the map of San Francisco and the front endpapers.T he rest of the drawings are by various other artists. The text was written by the author who survived the disaster. I acquired this book from a collection along with other books and paper. This one, however, is the one that caught my eye.
