2 No Author Stated A Pocket Guide To India (For Military Personnel 1943 WWII)
Washington D.C. Special Service Division. Services of supply united States Army 1943 soft cover Very good
This is part of a series of small booklets given to military personnel entering foreign countries in wartime. The booklets are literally pocket sized and very straightforward about dos and don'ts, cultural differences, and choices which could possibly be to an American's detriment. Here's an example: "Rabies are common. Avoid strange dogs and jackals and obtain quick treatment if bitten." The booklet measures 4-1/4" x 5-1/4" and has 68 pages, including two unused blank ones for notes. I also have five other titles for different countries.

Aberdeen Holiday Pictorial: The Silver City By the Sea , 1930's, No Author stated
3 No Author stated Aberdeen Holiday Pictorial: The Silver City By the Sea , 1930's
Aberdeen, Scotland Henry Munro LTD. No date circa 1930's Card cover Very good condition
Very handsome travel guide which measure 5-1/2"x 8-1/2" with 112 pages. The best part is the black and white photographs which emphasize fun better than most such publications of the era. Here the emphasis is on action shots of tourists and natives alike dancing, fishing, swimming, riding carnival rides and just plain acting silly. There are also scenic shots and lots of info on stuff to do, places to stay, restaurants, and Scottish things to buy. There's a fold-out map in the center of the book, but there's no date. However, given the cars in the ads and the clothing on the people it's got to be the 30's. There's also a flier laid-in inviting tourists to visit the Aberdeen Corporation Baths. (Travel Box I)

Crisp as new booklet -- pristine inside and out. It measures 5-1/4" x 8-1/2" and has 48 pages. The text is quite plentiful and dense and there are many drawings and tables of information. It's especially interesting to find such detailed description on the use of explosives in WWI. Nice addition to the military and/or WWI collection.

Announcement of the Northern Indiana School of Pharmacy Session 1896-97, No author Stated
5 No author Stated Announcement of the Northern Indiana School of Pharmacy Session 1896-97
Valparaiso, Indiana northern Indiana Normal School 1896 Soft cover Good
This booklet is not often seen. It measures 5-3/4" x 8-3/4" and has 26 pages. The beauty of it is the blue illustrations throughout, all of which are large photos, 12 in all. The booklet shows creasing to lower corner of cover and for a few pages inside. There's also a small tear at the bottom of each page. The first page has a small square of paper over the tear, but it doesn't show on the back -- just archival tape. I think the previous owner tried glue first which may have required the patch. The rest of the pages have archival tape on both sides (see photo). There are great pictures of inside the classrooms plus much information on what it meant to work for this degree in the late 1890's. The odd thing is a page with tiny photos of the graduates and even tinier names. I could read these only: W.C. Canfield, J.C. Buckler, E.G. Fishburn, C.A. Bailey, J.W. Jenson,, M.S. Basnett, E.E. McRill and. J.F. Smith.. The tex is easily read, but to get those names you need a better magnifying glass than I have.

Maynard, Massachsuetts Chandler Press 1989 0944593046 / 9780944593042 Reprint Card cover Very good condition
We have our many fads, but so did the people of the 19th century. One of the big ones was the love affair with the bicycle. Men and women both took to the streets, pedaling all sorts of conveyances from the one person bike, to the trike, and the tandem bike. This book is about the evolution of the bicycle, the various kinds, how to use the bike, which even has instructions for {"Look Mom, No hands!) There's also drawings and facsimile ads showing the various kinds of bikes and bike accessories. Measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2". Only fault is a tiny stain in the outer side margin of back cover.

Canada Canadian Pacific Express 1959 Card cover Very Good condition 5 x 8
Though it seems to be a booklet with nothing but the passenger list, both first class and tourist, in 1958 and'59. There's much more than a list of names -- there's a beautiful full color picture of the Empress of Britain, the times for White Empress Sailings, and a look at the Empress of Britain. The best thing though is the fun and sun. There's also a map showing Canadian Pacific picturesque short routes to and from Europe. The booklet measures 5"x 8" and has 28 pages, plus a look at Canadian Pacific Insignia.

Shanghai, China Shanghai Posts Bureau 2000 Hard Cover in Box Fine in Fine Box No dustjacket as issued
Book is clean and without defect. It also retains its original box which is likewise pristine. The book is written in both Chinese and English, each page unfolding the elegant and graceful tea culture in both languages. The art is lovely and is seen on each page. But perhaps the most interesting are the Chinese postal stamps which echo the tea culture theme. They appear to be under plastic, but you can open them up and hold them and put them back. There are a total of eight. Book measures 7-1/2" x 10-1/2 with 24 pages. Book is easily put back into the box. Would make a very charming gift.

Very scarce oversized booklet, quality printed on coated paper with many photographs. Plain khaki colored cover with embossed title. Clean as a whistle inside and out. No date, but it's clearly from the late 1930's to the 40's, as that's when the The American Board of Missions to the Jews was the largest Christian mission proselytizing to Jews in America. They were set up on Throop Avenue in Brooklyn (though also had satellite agencies in other states) due to the enormous Jewish population and the regular arrivals of Jewish refugees. This is a common publication, but a very good one for looking back at the death of President Kennedy and also looking at it for the first time. The photographs are very large and tell the story greatly with the help of the text and the captions under the photos. It begins with the breakfast in Texas and the president's final talk. Fromthere a few pages are given to the motorcade until the shots hit the president. The story goes on until the funeral is over and the the First Lady takes the American flag presented to her. The last items are the Congrssional Record for both the House and the Senate.
