Very nice clean card cover with rounded edges and an intact plastic comb spine. B&O Railroad Miniature Metal Sign and Three B&O Color Postcards
2 B&O Railroad Miniature Metal Sign and Three B&O Color Postcards
Earlton, New York; Washington Audio-Visual Designs & Washington Chapter NRHS 1967 All In fine Condition
This is a unique offering -- a small 3" diameter metal sign for the B&O Railroad, offered in the 1950's as a premium for Post cereals. The collector who owned it paired it with three color postcards, one of which is dated 1967. None have been used or written on and all are in excellent condition. The dated one was published by Washington Chapter NRHS and shows a President Class 4-6-2 pulling the B&O's Ambassador past Ivy City as it leaves Union Station Washington, D.C. Dec. 16, 1951. The other cards show "The Cincinnatian" train No 53 westbound from Toledo, Ohio July, 1956 and the B&O Mikado standing at rest during the final steam passenger run May, 1958 from Cleveland to Halloway, Ohio. We have several more pairings of metal signs and cards.

Blanche Lizzell and the Color Woodcut (Art Exhibition Catalog 2002)
3 Blanche Lizzell and the Color Woodcut (Art Exhibition Catalog 2002)
Boston, Mass. MFA Publications 2002 soft cover Good-plus
Wow -- what a beautiful catalog this is! The color woodcuts are just charming and the catalog is very clean and mostly very, very nice. But it looks as though someone set a wet glass on it inside the cover. (See second photo) Consequently there are some light pink spots to reverse side of cover and a slight bit of crinkliness to the area where the glass was, though I have pressed it much flatter in the book press and it covers just a few pages at front. The rest is pristine and no images are involved. The good news about this is the price! I reduced it considerably. Blanche Lazell (1878-1956) was a printmaker, painter and designer, but she is best known for her white line woodcut technique based on the Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print. Catalog measures 8-1/2x9-1/2" and has 96 pages which include two essays. Exhibit was shown in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Cleveland Museum of Art and Elvehjem Museum in Madison, Wisconsin.

Calendar 1956 Ohio Farmer's Insurance Co.; Canfield and Company Agency Chardon, Ohio (Doll Theme)
4 Calendar 1956 Ohio Farmer's Insurance Co.; Canfield and Company Agency Chardon, Ohio (Doll Theme)
Leroy (Westfield Center), Ohio Ohio Farmer's Insurance Company 1956 soft cover Fine Condition
This calendar is absolutely pristine. It's one of those where the home office prints the names of the various agencies who in turn use it to reward their customers with an annual gift. There was only one image back then, but as always it's a nice one, especially if you are a doll collector. The calendar is big at 11" x 17" and all of the tear off month pages are intact. Very nice! The calendar will ship flat for $2 in the U.S..

Gorman Rupp Company Lightweight Pumps (circa 1956)
5 Gorman Rupp Company Lightweight Pumps (circa 1956)
Mansfield, Ohio Gorman Rupp Company circa 1956 Soft cover in original envelope
This is a nice little package of materials about Gorman-Rupps self-priming centrifugal lightweight pumps available in three sizes -- the Midget 1-1/2"; The Hawk, 2"; and The Eagle, 3".The large blue leaflet has much information on both sides. The previous owner wrote the prices on the cover and penciled information on the top of the repair parts list which also serves as instructions manual. He also remarked that he bought his pump in 1956 which is why I have some idea of when this was published. The original envelope is intact and more instructions on the reverse side. There are also three warranty postcards, two filled in, one not. The envelope measures 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" with an intact label. It was pretty grungy when I got it, but I used a document pad to clean it and repaired a tears with archival tape.

Judy Garland RKO Palace Theatre Program 1956
6 Judy Garland RKO Palace Theatre Program 1956
New York RKO Palace Theatre 1956 soft cover Very Good
Very nice clean program which is more leaflet than booklet, but not too often seen. It's not a play, more of a review with a number of different acts including the Amin Brothers, Paul Sydell, Joe Smith and Charlie Dale, Giselle and Francois Szony. Alan King (comedian), and primarily -- JUDY GARLAND! There's info about each act, but Judy takes center stage. Measures 6"x9" and is clean with no tears and no names. It was folded vertically at one time, but is totally flat now. Very nice.

Map of Roman Britain Scale 16 Miles To One Inch (1956)
7 Map of Roman Britain Scale 16 Miles To One Inch (1956)
Chessington Surrey, England The Ordnance Survey 1956 Third Edition Card cover Good condition
The map folded inside this booklet is enormous measuring 32" across and 42" high. And better yet it's crisp and clean as the day it was printed. The booklet also shows five pages of maps within the text, plus a chronological table, Roman names of places and tribes, notes on maps in the text, and a topographical index. There is also info on changes in the use of symbols, military sites, towns and settlements, the countryside, funeral monuments, industry and mining, communications, aqueducts, lighthouses, theatres and amphitheatres, and a bibliographical note. Booklet measures 8-1/4" x 11" with clean and tightly bound pages. The only faults is creasing to edges, though I did re-glue all four corners and they are strong again.

8 Postcards: Courtyards of New Orleans Old French Courtyard. Courtyard Louisiana State Museum
Boston, New Orleans Tichnor. New Orleans News Co. Circa 1946 Very good condition
The rounded doors and courtyards of New Orleans make very pretty postcards. These two are very clean. The one with the yellow doors shows the Louisiana State Museum in New Orleans. It has not been used. The date I affixed to the pair is the result of the second card which shows Old French Courtyard, New Orleans. That one was sent to a Mrs. M.C. Binkley of Washington, D.C. and postmarked on April 7, 1956. Both cards will arrive in its own brand new plastic sleeve.

The World Famous Great Gatsby's Antique Auction June 6th-7th, 1997 (Frank Loyd Wright's Personal Car)
9 The World Famous Great Gatsby's Antique Auction June 6th-7th, 1997 (Frank Loyd Wright's Personal Car)
Atlanta, Georgia Great Gatsby's 1997 soft cover Very Good
Fabulous over-sized auction catalog filled with rare and beautiful items, all of which are pictured in full color. Measures 10-1/2"x12-1/2 and is clean and tightly bound with just a few spots of wear at spine, none of which compromises its integrity. The former owner's mailing label is on the reverse. This particular catalog is noteworthy due to the sale of Frank Lloyd Wright's personal car, a 1956 Aztec Red Mercedes Gull Wing designed especially for him after he redesigned a New York City car dealership which has since been demolished. The opening bid was to have been $300,000 and Jay Leno was one of many collectors eyeing it, but, try as I may, I cannot find the gavel price. Catalog has 46 pages.

The Use of Wide-Seam Carpet in Decoration (Clara Dudley for Alexander Smith & Sons Carpet Co. 1931), Dudley, Clara
12 Dudley, Clara The Use of Wide-Seam Carpet in Decoration (Clara Dudley for Alexander Smith & Sons Carpet Co. 1931)
New York Alexander Smith & Sons Carpet Co. 1931 soft cover Good
Very uncommon piece of ephemera in excellent condition. Cover and pages of this oversized piece are clean as a whistle inside and out. Glassine overwrap, hoever, shows a diagonal crease to bottom front corner, a thin line of browning from top to bottom at front and and a small hole and some chips to back edges. Beautfully illustrated with color renderings of rooms --also includes a color chart with 18 hues and suggestions for their use. This is an important piece, as Alexander Smith & Sons by 1929 were the largest carpet company in the world, famous for their innovative techniques that made carpeting affordable to the middle class. The company began in 1845 in West Farms, New York and merged with Mohawk in 1956. An interesting sidebar is the fact that Alexander Smith himself was elected to Congress in 1878, but died the evening of his election day. Piece is unpaginated, but we counted 10 large pages. Measures 9-1.2" x 11-1/2".

13 Giles, Ken Weatherbird Presents Super Circus Great Animal Show (circa 1949-56)
U.S.A. Weatherbird Shoes Circa 1949-56 soft cover Fine condition
This is an astonishing find based on Super Circus, one of the earliest TV shows for children. It was sponsored by Weatherbird Shoes and began in Chicago in 1949 and ended in New York in 1956. I was born in 1951 and we had TV by'52, but I have no memory of this show. All I remember is Ding-Dong School with Arlene Francis! This booklet is in amazing condition -- crisp and clean as new with just a small bit of wear to a small section of top back edge. It's a pop-out book of animals with instructions on how to assemble them. There are five pages with all pieces intact. Measures 10" x 10-1/2" and is truly rare.

Very nice clean program tightly bound with just a few small faults -- a superficial crease to upper corners which lie perfectly flat and are hard to see and a small bit of wear to bottom corner at back. There is no date, but research shows that the original play debuted in 1956, so the 20th anniversary was 1976. This time the stars were Ian Richardson and Christine Andreas. Only faults are some toned edges to margin of back cover. (see last photo).
