Marriage Certificate Booklet Henry J. Burnett Elizabeth Anderson Akron, Ohio 1913
1 Marriage Certificate Booklet Henry J. Burnett Elizabeth Anderson Akron, Ohio 1913

Charming marriage certificate booklet printed in 1900 and used in 1913 and then given to the couple as a memento from the church in which they were married -- Trinity Lutheran of Akron, Ohio. Tied with a cord and filled with pretty period flowers and flourishes, poems, and religious admonitions. It's thirteen pages of turn-of-the century charm -- and large too at 6"x7-1/2" The clear, easy to read handwriting declares that it certifies that Henry J. Burnett and Miss Elizabeth K. Anderson were united in Holy Matrimony on the third day of December, 1913 at the minister's residence. It's signed only by E.W. Simon, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Akron, Ohio. The booklet shows mild soiling to back cover and creasing to last page and back cover at same lower corner, as well as a small tear to outer back edge of cover. Pages are lovely. A pretty piece of the past.

Modern Priscilla Magazine September, 1918
2 Modern Priscilla Magazine September, 1918
Boston, Mass. Priscilla Publishing 1918 soft cover Very good
The covers of Priscilla magazine are really sensational, but I think this one by Ronald Anderson may be my favorite to date. What a strong, bold graphic and such a pleasing vignette it portrays. As always, Priscilla is about needlework primarily, but these wartime issues don't flinch from reality either. It's all about making do and still making fine things, as well as service to one's country. It's quite large at 10"x14" and is clean and crisp. No mailing label, but it has been folded vertically for insertion in mailbox. I have ironed it and put it in the book press and it now lays flat. Issue contains two especially fine full page ads -- one for Congoleum "rugs" and one for Colgate Talc Powder.

Real Photo Postcard East High School Football Team, Cleveland, 1929 (Most players names on back)
5 Real Photo Postcard East High School Football Team, Cleveland, 1929 (Most players names on back)
Cleveland, Ohio Euclid Comt. Studio Inc. 1929 Good condition
This card isn't perfect -- there are flat creases to all corners, though all are lying flat. I normally would have passed it by, but this is the Cleveland East High School football team of 1929. But the back of the card is what really made me buy it -- most of the players are named and matched to numbers. Surnames include Harmony, Doad, Nardi, Anderson, Shannon, Samuelson, Bendokus, Coates, Sharkey, Storey, Gentile, Mahalic, Blikle, Hylinski, Rubin, Tomb, Balcombe, Tanske, Siathowski, Rashoski, Artale,Blimpie, Buchman, Landon, Hamilton, Swearington, Rytel and Bell. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve. The team was sponsored by Lucille Plankel Barber Shop and Beauty Shop.

New York City The American Spectator Inc. 1932-1933 Volume I, Nos. 1-7 Soft cover Very good condition
Aren't these handsome with their original colorful bands? The bands slip on and off, so not to worry about being able to read the articles. What's interesting also is the fact that these are the first ever issues. There are many voices here that you will recognize -- Theodore Dreiser, Eugene O'Neill, Clarence Darrow, Liam O'Flaherty, Louis Untermeyer, Sean O'Casey, Booth Tarkington, and more. Closed the papers measures 9" x 11-1/2". Only volume I shows some toning to front pages. NOTE -- this is not the political magazine of the same name.

Wild Flower Name Tales (1976), Anderson, Berta
8 Anderson, Berta Wild Flower Name Tales (1976)
Colorado Springs Century One Press 1976 soft copver Near fine anderson Bill (photographer)
Very pretty and very interesting if you're a gardener, or a natural history buff. The booklet is clean and bright and appears unread. The only fault is a small blacked out price on the back and a tiny black spot on the spine. Pages are pristine with no names or writing and very handsome photos including one in color at frontis. This is isn't a field guide -- it's narrative which tells the stories of how the wildflowers of the Rocky Mountain West got their names and their namers. Booklet measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" with 124 pages. Map inside back cover.

Playbill The Star Wagon Burgess Meredith, Lillian Gish Emipire Theatre 1938, Anderson, Maxwell
10 Anderson, Maxwell Playbill The Star Wagon Burgess Meredith, Lillian Gish Emipire Theatre 1938
New York City New York Theatre Program Corporation 1938 Opening Night April 4, 1938 Soft cover Good
This program for The Star-Wagon with Burgess Meredith and Lillian Gish surprised me with a little find in here. The original owner tucked in a little handwritten history. It says that the Empire opened in 1893 and continued to 1953. He also said that in Feb. 1927 actress Gail Kane and others were arrested following a performance of The Captive which was considered indecent and violated 1140A of the New York City criminal code!!!!!!But eleven years later Meredith and Gish were free to trod the boards in The Star Wagon, a play set in in the suburbs of a manufacturing company in eastern Ohio. The program shows some stubborn soil to back and a little edge wear to front, but overall is good. The scrap of history will be included.

Takis: Evidence of the Unseen (1968 Art at MIT), Anderson, Wayne
13 Anderson, Wayne Takis: Evidence of the Unseen (1968 Art at MIT)
Cambridge, Massachusetts Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 1968 soft cover Very Good
Striking cover, if somewhat simple, draws attention sans words. The booklet was published to accompany an exhibit which was displayed in the Hayden Gallery at MIT from November 15 to December 8, 1968. There is much text interspersed with black and white photographs, but the comments at the back with photos are especially interesting, as the reviewers are Allen Ginsberg, Marcel Duchamp, Gregory Corso and William Burroughs. Takis is a sculptor who balances artistic discernment, scientific knowledge, and the intuition of thing unseen. Booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 33 pages. Only fault is a bit of light toning at spine.

A Wilder in the West; The Story of Eliza Jane, Anderson, William (editor)
14 Anderson, William (editor) A Wilder in the West; The Story of Eliza Jane
De Smet, South Dakota Unknown 1971 soft cover
Very nice clean booklet SIGNED on title page by editor. If you collect Laura Ingalls Wilder this is a nice item to deepen the collection. It tells the story of Laura's sister-in-law Eliza and her experiences homesteading in De Smet, Dakota Territory beginning in 1879. The account is told in Eliza's own voice, as the booklet is comprised of the transcript of a speech Eliza gave to the Department of the Interior in Washington D.C. Sadly, the last few pages of the original manuscript went missing, so the story ends a bit abruptly, but additional material was added beneath by the editor about Eliza and the Wilders. 17 pages. Booklet was distributed by the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society Inc.

London and Glasgow Collin No date Flexible cover Fine in Near Fine Slipcase No DJ Anderson, Marjorie
This is a gift book, part of a series titled the Collins Greeting Booklets. I've had one before and they're nicely designed. The booklet is clean and without defect and the slipcase is charming with a rectangular cut-out. The booklet inside its sturdy slipcase measures 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" and has 127 pages. The print is very readable and there are very handsome illustrations. A classic! Very scarce in the slipcase. NOTE: I took a picture of the gift inscription from a woman who gave it to her brother because it's readable and beautiful. I like to add on to previous gifters whenever I give a little book as a gift.
