1 1940 Stevens Rifles & Shotguns Catalog No. 40 (with letter and price list)
Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts Stevens Arms Company 1940 soft cover Catalog No. 40
Crisp clean catalog which defies its age and also comes with the original price list and a letter from the company directed to the consumer. There is no date, but it details its use of a product called Tenite which debuted in the 1940's. As the war escalated Tenite kept sporting goods on the market while wood was held for miltiary guns. The catalog measures 7-1/4" x 10-1/4" with 30 pages. Not often seen.

Arms and Armor Resaissance Furniture Italian Majolica From the Edwin M. Berolzheimer Collection 1950
2 Arms and Armor Resaissance Furniture Italian Majolica From the Edwin M. Berolzheimer Collection 1950
New York Parke-Bernet Galleries Inc. 1950 March 9, 1950 Card cover Very good condition
Today's auction catalogs look like magazines in full color. I love them, but I also like these simpler ones. The auction took place on March 9, 1950 due to the death of Edwin M. Berolzheier in 1949. At this point the collection was owned by Mrs. Edwin M. Berol. The catlaog measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/2" with 48 pages and 267 objects including the itemz mentioned.but also Persian and other antique textiles, pottery and bronzes. There are descriptions for each and within them are black and white photogrpahs.

4 CVA Mountain Rifle & Kit Promotion Materials (1977)
Haddam, Connecticut Connecticut Valley Arms Inc. 1977/78 Fine condition
Wow! This is a really nice find. Inside this envelope are many pristine, unused advertising products. The envelope was never mailed which is likely why everything inside is so perfect. The contents include the following: a letter to the dealer; a 1978 catalog replete with price sheet; a huge wall or window banner measuring 12" x 52"; and a counter card (10-1/2" x 14") affixed with a pad of tear-off coupons. None were used AND we have a second unused pad as well.

Gun and Cartridge Record October, 1953
5 Gun and Cartridge Record October, 1953
Chagrin Falls, Ohio Gun and Cartridge Record Inc. 1953 Vol. II No. 7 soft cover Very good
This one's a cross between a newspaper and a magazine. Retains the newspaper look, but the paper itself is much more substantial which is why it looks so nice. This is NOT the publication of the same name issued by Andy Palmer of Michigan. This one is harder to find and came from Ohio, though Palmer's is getting to be scarce too. The magazine measures 12"x18" and has 12 pages of dense text. It's clean, crisp and bright with just some light toning to edges at spots and darkening at crease. The articles are all short and cover a wide range of subjects, including Micahel Corcoran, a colorful officer in the Civil War, the history of the cartridge, handloading, panzers, an Italian anti-personnel land mine and much more. There are also book reviews, classifieds, and current prices of various arms. I have about a half dozen of these all from the 50's, so if you want a run-down on what's available use the contact button and I'll get back to you.

Ithaca Gun Catalog 1939 (Ithaca, Lefever and Western Arms Guns)
6 Ithaca Gun Catalog 1939 (Ithaca, Lefever and Western Arms Guns)
Ithaca, New York Ithaca Gun Company circa 1939-40 soft cover Good condition
This catalog will arrive with the two extra advertising pieces I found inside, both of which were produced by Ithaca in 1940. The only thing that bothers me a little is that the first page is numbered 3, but there is no evidence of any pages having been torn out. Page three was blank initially until a notice was pasted onto it with a list of new prices for June, 1940 (see photo). The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and ends on page 22. The First extras is a three panel brochure advertising Ithaca, Lefever and Western Arms models -- all repeaters and new prices. The second item is a four page brochure of dealer price quotes (orange paper).

Legacy From the Past; A Portfolio of Eighty-eight Original Williamsburg Buildings --1975
9 Legacy From the Past; A Portfolio of Eighty-eight Original Williamsburg Buildings --1975
Williamsburg, Virginia The Colonial Willamsburg Foundation 1974 Fourth printing Card cover Very good condition N. Jane Iseley (photographer)
I haven't seen a Williamsburg, Virginia item in years. The ones I've put on here were old and had been in the closet until I got around to them. I thought they were all gone when this one slid off a shelf with a magazine. The booklet is really nice -- lots of photos in color inside and out. The thrust is for the 88 buildings, but there are also homes that people live in. Imagine living in a historic tourist stop. Also inside are two items -- a brochure which explains seven eateries of the day (1970s) -- Williamsburg Inn, Williamsburg Lodge, King's Arms Tavern, Christiania Campbell's Tavern, Josiah Crowning's Tavern, The Cascades, and the Cafeteria. Three is also an unused postcard showing the Wren Building of the College of William and Mary which is also in Williamsburg. The Wren is the oldest building in English America. Everything is clean and nice. The booklet measures 8-1/4" x 11" and has 78 pages.

Lewis Machine Gun (Airplane Type Model 1917-18 Caliber.30)
10 Lewis Machine Gun (Airplane Type Model 1917-18 Caliber.30)
Utica, New York Savage Arms Corporation WWI era Card cover Fair
This item would never win a beauty contest. I almost didn't buy it, but then I opened the back cover and saw the magnificent fold-out in COLOR. And that did it! When I got it home I did the following to improve it: used book cover cleaner and tons of paper towels, used black book tape on spine to stabilize binding; and used document pad to clean smudges. Believe it or not, it's actually come a long way. The pages are quite clean and tightly bound -- item is not often seen. It easures 4" x 6" and has 63 pages. Former owner's name is stamped on first and last pages and is written on back of front cover. Booklet provides much technical and practical advice.

Real Photo Postcard Smiling Group Young Man with Two Dolls
11 Real Photo Postcard Smiling Group Young Man with Two Dolls
AZO Very Good
This is a most interesting group of people. Every one of them is SMILING which was not too common. The older woman in the white blouse has her arms around the two people next to her and the young girl next to the guy with the dolls is looking across at the older woman. If I were to guess I'd say the lady to the far right is Grandma, the older woman in the white blouse is her daughter and the two young adults are the daughter's kids. Note that both "kids" have their legs stretched out in front of them. The young man is wearing a hat and for some reason is laughing and holding two odd dolls. The other mystery is the date because AZO's name with four triangles facing up in the corners of the postage box indicates that the date is unknown.

Remington Breech Loading Arms and Ammunition 1875
12 Remington Breech Loading Arms and Ammunition 1875
Ilion, New York Citizen Campbell Press 1874 (reprinted here, no date) Reprint Card cover Very good condition
Very nice, clean booklet which is a third reprint. It's clean and tightly bound with no names or writing and no underlining or creasing. The booklet measures 5-1/4" x 7-1/2" and has 74 pages, plus 1874 prices at back of book. The illustrations are exceptional throughout with no skimping on ink. The booklet covers sporting and target rifles, shotguns, pistols, ammunition, gun barrels, mountings, and implements. The only fault is a shadow on the left corner of the front cover caused by the removal of a price sticker. There's is also a very small stain next to the left close to the bottom of the cover next to the spine

The least expensive is the Model 3 Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle with peep sights at $5.65. The catalog measures 7-1/2" by 9-1/4" and has 23 pages, each with photos in black and white. Peace or Atomic War? 1958, Albert Schweitzer
20 Albert Schweitzer Peace or Atomic War? 1958
United States Henry Holt 1958 First Edition Stated Hard cover Very good condition Very Good dustjacket 5-1/2
This small booklet has only 47 pages, but it's in hard cover with a nice dustjacket which will arrive in a brand new mylar cover. The booklet measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" with clean paper and no writing or underlining. Three appeals broadcast from Oslo, Norway on April 28, 29, and 30, 1958. Schweitzer said then: At this stage we have the choice of two risks. The one lies on continuiong the mad atomic arms-race, with its danger of an avoidable atomic war in the near future. The other in the renunciation of nuclear weapons and in the hope that the Unted States and the Soviet Union, and the people associated with them, will manage to live in peace. The first holds no hope of a prosperous future, the second does. We must risk the second.
