Northwestern Versus Notre Dame 1948 Football Program
2 Northwestern Versus Notre Dame 1948 Football Program
Notre Dame University 1948 soft cover Very good
Beautiful condition and a fun collectible no matter which side's your favorite (well, maybe!) The game was held at Notre Dame Stadium November 13, 1948. The program measures 8"x11-1/2" and has 84 pages. It's interesting that the leading advertiser is Chesterfield cigarettes. Not only do they command the back cover, but also paid for a two-page color spread inside. Studebaker and Coca-Cola likewise sprang for color advertising. Pictures of the campus, staff, and Notre Dame players abound, as do photos of the Northwestern team. I did a little research and it seems that the Fighting Irish ended victorious with a perfect season matched only by the University of Michigan Wolverines. The championship ultimately went to the Wolverines, but at least on this day the Notre Dame Fight Song filled the autumn air with joy!

Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, 1966 Moving the Library Company. Shirley Jackson Chronology)
3 Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, 1966 Moving the Library Company. Shirley Jackson Chronology)
New York City Bibliographical Society of America Second Quarter, 1966 Volume Sixty soft cover Near fine condition
Very handsome journal of interest to book lovers with extra ephemera laid-in. There's lots to read here, but I think the hands-down most interesting article is the one about moving The Library Company of Philadelphia, a 235 year-old establishment which contained 235,000 volumes! How they did it is fascinating and there are wonderful photos (see pictures). Some of the other stories of note are The Identification of Type Faces in Bibliographical Description and Shirley Jackson: A Chronology and Supplementary Checklist. Inside the front cover you will find a leaflet about the Society's Autumn Meeting with information on four sides, plus an unused list of itinerary items to choose if interested. Journal measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/4" with 129 pages. Only fault is a tiny stain to bottom of front cover. Otherwise pristine.

Crisp, tightly bound magazine completely devoted to one topic -- aspects of the gas turbine. Measures 7-3/4"x10-1/2" and has 31 pages. Only fault is a small bit of smudging to lower corner of first page and toning to the margins, also at that corner. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs, drawings, and a graph. Aspects of subject include gas turbines versus other prime movers; background for gas turbines; discussion of engineering problems in gas turbine development; manufacturing problems in construction; heat supply for gas turbines; and future applications.

This one has 107 pages highlighting 42 works of art in bronze, pottery, limestone, jade and porcelain. Catalog is clean and tightly bound with no names or writing. The only fault is a small area at top of back dust jacket where there appears to be a lamination issue, but I have placed it in a brand new mylar cover and overall is beautiful.

Belle Grace Magazine; Life Is A Beautiful Journey; Autumn 2015, Brianne Mertin (Editor)
7 Brianne Mertin (Editor) Belle Grace Magazine; Life Is A Beautiful Journey; Autumn 2015
Laguna Hils, California Stampington Company 2015 Autumn 2015 Card cover Fine condition Jessuica Wolfe, Photographer
This is like no magazine you have ever seen. It's about enjoying life in all its aspects. There are articles about letting go, stillness, walking, playing with light, the kindnes of strangers, 40 ways to spread kindness, small things worth savoring, life's backpack, where your stories belong, the power of paper, and more. And all of it is so beautiful. I bought this thinking it was a book, so it was a surpise to learn that it's an issue of a quarterly magazine. The magazine has a defined spine, measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 159 pages.

Slim oversized magazine in very nice clean condition. No defects of note. The main article here is entitled "Revolution in the Iris World; A Critical Survey of the Best Newer Varieties which Now Dominate the Field." One of the best ads is a two page spread for iris too. Other articles cover making floral arrangements for the dining table, growing hybrid delphiniums, the August garden, Oriental poppies, greenhouses, autumn crocus, gladiolus, giant Dutchman's pipe, Kansas sunflowers, peonies and more. The Western Pennsylvania Historical Magzine: Drums in the Forest (Autumn 1958), James, Alfred Procter; Stot, Charles Morse
9 James, Alfred Procter; Stot, Charles Morse The Western Pennsylvania Historical Magzine: Drums in the Forest (Autumn 1958)
Pittsburgh, PA The Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania 1958 Volumes 41, Numbers 3 and 4 soft cover Very Good Condition
I have had a few magazines such as this one which consists of an entire book, but they aren't common. This one is especially impressive as it has 227 pages. The over-riding title is "Drums in the Forest" which itself is divided into two parts --Decision at the Forks by Alfred Procter James and Defense in the Wilderness by Charles Morse Stotz. It's the Special Bicentennial issue commemorating the founding of Pittsburgh and is illustrated throughout. The magazine is clean and tightly bound with no names or writing and no vertical spine crease. It's sunned at spine and around edges of cover, but is otherwise quite nice. Book is nonfiction with an emmphasis on 18th century Western, Pennsylvania and its forts and the French and Indian War.

The Playbill Leslie Howard in The Petrified Forest, 1935 (The Broadhurst Theatre), Sherwood, Robert,
12 Sherwood, Robert, The Playbill Leslie Howard in The Petrified Forest, 1935 (The Broadhurst Theatre)
New York City The New York Theatre Program Corporation 1935 Week of May 27, 1935 soft cover Very good condition
Other than a light vertical crease caused by theatre-goers who casually fold their programs on their way out the door this is a pristine specimen. It was distributed the week of May 27, 1935. In addition to Leslie Howard, there's Humphrey Bogart as Duke Mantee. The backdrop is "the Black Mesa B-B-Q, a gas station and lunch room at a lonely crossroads in the eastern Arizona desert. The action begins late in the afternoon of an autumn day in the present year and continues into the evening of the same day." So then -- what's with the cover art? Program measures 6-3/4" x 9" and has 32 pages.
