Game Face Cleveland Indian Scorebook Magazine Commemorative Issue 1993; Tribute to Cleveland Stadium Official Souvenir Print October 2, 1993 (Cleveland Indians Baseball)
3 Game Face Cleveland Indian Scorebook Magazine Commemorative Issue 1993; Tribute to Cleveland Stadium Official Souvenir Print October 2, 1993 (Cleveland Indians Baseball)
Cleveland, Ohio Cleveland Indians Baseball 1993 soft cover Very good
These items came together so I am leaving them together, as both are mementos of the last Cleveland Indians baseball season to be held at the old Cleveland Stadium. The magazine measures 8-1/2"x11" and still retains its unused scorecards for the final series at Cleveland Stadium. It's a glossy magazine with lots of photos and Cleveland baseball history. Magazine is clean and bright with just one tear to lower front corner which was repaired on reverse side with tape by former owner. The print measures 8"x11" also and shows likenesses of Andre Thornton, Mel Harder, Bob Feller and Lou Boudreau. The text reads "Tribute to Cleveland Stadium October 2, 1993." Nice package!

Nine Carte de Visites Womens' Portraits, Kentucky
4 Nine Carte de Visites Womens' Portraits, Kentucky
Kentucky Unknown Good condition
Here we have a grouping of carte de visites featuring women of the mid-19th century. The carte de visite was a craze at the time and people collected them like baseball cards. These are all small portraits mounted on heavy cardboard like a cabinet photo, but measure only around 2-1/2"x3-1/2", sometimes 4". Often the backs are very ornate, as photographers used the blank space to advertise. These, however, are fairly plain. Most derive from Louisville or Lexington Kentucky, though we do have one from Brownville, Tennessee. Two show a light touch of hand-tinting and one has a name penciled on the bottom. Very hard to read, but I think it says Sabra Hyerson. She is pretty girl at the far right your screen in the last row.

Real Photo Postcard Baseball Diamond. McElroy Park Jmestown, Norh Dakota. 1951
7 Real Photo Postcard Baseball Diamond. McElroy Park Jmestown, Norh Dakota. 1951
Jamstown, North Dakota No publisher stated 1951 Very good condition 3-1/4 No photographer stated
Big crowds made McElroy Park on a good day with nice covered bleachers, plus the outside seats. As for the card, there's a bright postal stamping on the back showing that Jack Joyce, of Canton, Ohio sent it. The sender posted the card at Mound City, South Dakota, also in 1951. The writer was clearly a baseball fan, so I'll let the buyer read the rest. The card will arive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Shoes They Are Wearing In Russia To-Day; Corona Kid Company, Boston (circa 1920's)
8 Shoes They Are Wearing In Russia To-Day; Corona Kid Company, Boston (circa 1920's)
Boston, Massachusets Corona Kid Company circa 1920's Soft cover Very Good
Very quirky advertising brochure for the Corona Kid Company of Boston, strangely not dated. The oldest reference of the company I found was the July 3, 1901 issue of Book & Shoe Recorder which lists them as an advertiser for leather. The next reference was 1903 when Shoe Worker's Journal mentioned that the company baseball team was the best in the area. Then in 1914 there was a notice that they had moved up South Street. The last notice was in 1921 which indicated that the company was big in patent leather -- which brings us to this advertising piece. Its big sell was that Corona Colt leather required no polishing -- just washing. It's in full color and has 12 pages.

Zelienople, PA Wayne Varner Shoebox Cards 2001 22nd National Sportcards Collector's Convention Issue, soft cover Very good condition
Very nice catalog which isn't all glitz and no substance. This one's clearly a labor of love. This issue came out to coincide with the 22nd Sportscards Collector Convention held at the International Exposition Center (known by the locals as the IX Center) in Cleveland, Ohio. The issue served as both program and catalog. Varner's Shoebox cards covered a collector's gallery, pre-war cards, Bowman cards, Topps cards, PSA- graded cards, football, basketball and miscellaneous cards. Catalog measures 8" 10-1/2" and is clean and tightly bound. Great asset to a collector.

The American Boy Magazine 1925 (12 Issues Bound), Barbour, Ralph Henry et al
11 Barbour, Ralph Henry et al The American Boy Magazine 1925 (12 Issues Bound)
Detroit, Michigan Sprague Publishing 1925 First edition Hard cover Very Good
This was a privately bound full year run of The American Boy Magazine, all 12 issues for 1925. As you can see from the photographs, the original mailing labels are on the covers. Every magazine is clean and nice and the binding is truly top drawer with its paisley cover and green cloth spine and corners. Great ads abound and there is a lot to read in each issue, both fiction and nonfiction. Some of authors include Ralph Henry Barbour, Charles Tenny Jackson, and Thomas Burtis among many. Topics cover a wide swath, including basketball, football, baseball, hunting, camping, canoeing, aviation, horses, fly casting, tennis, checkers, soap carving, and kites. The book measures a whopping 11" x 14-1/2". I also have all issues bound identically for 1920, 1921, 1923, and 1924. Ships U.S. media mail for $2. OVERSEAR ORDERS WELCOME, but book is too large even for the expensive priority flat rate box. If you want a quote anyway contact me with destination.

13 Bob Feller Bob Feller 20 Years with the Cleveland Indians; 29th Annual Lorain County Fellowship Dinner Sept. 29, 1998
Cleveland, Ohio The Cleveland Indians Baseball Company 1956 Card cover Fine condition of book and very good to the Orange Program 5-1/2
Bob Feller is a beloved baseball player ever since 1936 when he gave Cleveland many firsts --the first of the first with his appearance in Cleveland. The booklet signed his name on an agreement in the blue booklet -- he was one of three. The agreement is in the booklet. The final one was "For a consideration of one dollar paid to Reobert Feller this. An agreement is declared valid." The book measures 5-1/2" x 9-1/2" and has 32 pages with many stats and photos. Be sure to read the names on the cover of the program. Bob wrote thus, "To Shirley From Bob Feller." Nice gift.

Toledo Magazine (Ohio), Lang, Sandy (editor)
14 Lang, Sandy (editor) Toledo Magazine (Ohio)
Toledo, Ohio Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce 1981 Card cover Fine condition
Toledo, Ohio is a nice city, though not as well known perhaps as the three "Cs" -- Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati. I was in a store once and heard a jhopper say, "Toledo is the best keptsecret in the state." It's the home of Jamie Farr who was noted for his role on the TV show M.A.S.H.. It also has the beautiful University of Toledo, the Toledo Art Museum, The Toledo Mud Hens baseball team and much more. In 30-some years things have changed, so it's fun to look back. The magazine is filled with articles and color photos, measures 8-1.2" x 11" and has 136 pages.

Coller's Magazine August 5, 1933, Runyon, Damon; Churchill, Winston
17 Runyon, Damon; Churchill, Winston Coller's Magazine August 5, 1933
Springfield, Ohio P.F. Collier & Son Co. August 5, 1933 Vol. 92, No. 6 soft cover Very good condition
The 1930's covers of Colliers are always fun and whimsical. This issue has some big names too -- Damon Runyon has the lead short story titled "What, No Butler?" and THE Winston Churchill (not the author of the same name) checks in with an essay about American food titled "Land of Corn and Lobsters." There's also a great article about the modernization of railroads and a baseball article by Bill Cunningham titled "Search for the Red Sox." Magazine is VERY clean and nice with just one small tear to outer edge of front cover, discretely taped on reverse by me with non-browning archival tape. Magazine measures 10-3/4" x 13-3/4" and has 50 pages. Very nice full page Coca-Cola ad too.
