Ayer's American Almanac for the Use of Farmers, Planters, Mechanics, Mariners and All Families 1862
1 Ayer's American Almanac for the Use of Farmers, Planters, Mechanics, Mariners and All Families 1862
Lowell, Massachusetts Dr. J.C. Ayer & Co. 1862 soft cover very good
I've had a bunch of Ayer's almanacs over the years, but this is the oldest one I'vw ever had, or even seen. Other than a little light soiling to yellow cover it's in excellent condition. The good doctor had this to say about it: "Calculated for the four great Meridians of the Country, and consequently msy be relied on as accurate for every Place in the United States and British Provinces of North America. Also, giving Medical Counsel which may be relied on for the Treatment and Cure of the afflicting Diseases that prevail within the latitudes of the American States. Illustrated with a few small engravings.

Beatrix Potter Studies II (1986)
2 Beatrix Potter Studies II (1986)
England The Beatrix Potter Society 1986 soft cover Very Good condition
What a surprise find this morning! Nine years ago I bought several full years of the newsletters of the Beatrix Potter Society and four booklets like this one filled with papers presented at the Society's Beatrix Potter Lake District Study Conference. All of it is long gone, but somehow this little straggler landed with a bunch of unrelated items. The booklet's articles re these: Lake District Natural History and Beatrix Potter; The Beatrix Potter Collection at the Free Library of Philadelphia; Collecting Beatrix Potter; Beatrix Potter Piracies and Sequels; and Bertram Potter and the Scottish Borders. Booklet is very clean and tightly bound with no names or writing. Measure 7-1/2" x 8" and has 52 pages.

Cedar Point Amusement Park (Ohio) Tourists in the Arcade Real Photo Postcard
3 Cedar Point Amusement Park (Ohio) Tourists in the Arcade Real Photo Postcard
Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio Arcade Photo Co. Fine
Are we having fun yet? Every time I look at this card I have to laugh. Five tourists aboard a fake boat in the arcade at the site of Ohio's grand amusement park and not a smile in the bunch, including the two clutching teddy bears! Still, this is one of my all-time favorite real photos! It was never sent, there's no stamp, no writing and no edgewear. Photo was printed on AZO photographic paper.

North Western Lines Baraboo Line Passenger Service Spring 1995
4 North Western Lines Baraboo Line Passenger Service Spring 1995
Elmhurst, Illinois Chicago & North Western Historical Society 1995 Vol. 22, No. 2 soft cover Near fine
This is such a wonderful magazine, a quarterly that has an amazing amount of material in each issue. I love these -- had a bunch of them once when I bought a lot of railroadiana from a collector, but haven't seen one in years. The photograph is excellent, primarily in black and white, but there's color art in this one too (see photo) as well as a time table and technical drawings. Among the topics are A Ride on the Streamliner "Capitol 400", Passenger Service in the Baraboo Valley, Paul Proehl's North Western Art, and more. Magazine measures 8-1/2"x11" and has 89 pristine pages.

I love exhibition catalogs which is why I have 300-something on here and lots more in my storage closets. Then there's a bunch I bought two days ago. This is one of those. I hace a soft spot for plain covers that somehow exudes elegance. In this instance its a metallic look and a nice size measuring 7"x 9". In addition to the photographs is an essay titled Empathy and Sculpture by Bill Berkson.

6 Pisano, Robert G.; Weber, Bruce Society of American Fakirs of the art Student League of New york 1891- 1914 (Exhibiion Catalog, 1993-94))
New York Museums at Stony Brook 1993 0943924189 / 9780943924182 Card over Fine condition
Not only is this one a stunner, it's also a chance to meet the Fakirs. I'be been selling art catalogs and books since 1997 and I have never heard of this. But in the era of 1891-1914 a madcap bunch of art students painted outrageous renditions of the paintings on view at the Society of American Artist. Some of them actually became important paintings in their own right. Two essays explain it all. Bruce Weber wrote "The Who, What, When, Where, and Why of the Fakirs" and Ronald Pisano followed pp with "The Art of the Fakirs." There's black and white photos included. This is the catalog of the exhibit held in 1993 at Berry- Hill Galleries Inc. from Sept. 23, 1993 - Oct. 23, 1993 and to The Art Museum, The Museums of Stony Brook from March 20, 1994 to June 19, 1994. the catalog measures 9" x 12" and has 77 pages.
