1 Collector's Choice (Clements Library University of Michigan 1967)
Ann Arbor, Michigan Clements Library, Universityy of Michigan 1967 soft cover Fine condition
This is very much a bibliophile's booklet, so if you are a collector of books about books this one's for you! It's amazingly clean and nice and has 15 dense pages. The booklet is a guide to an exhibition of selected items from private collections formed by "certain members" of the Clement Library Associates. Collections hailed from Michigan, Ohio, Chicago, Connecticut, Seattle, and New York. Only one collector was a woman. Their topics covered Mackinac Island, American Indians, the Great Lakes, the far Northwest, medicine, the American Revolution, the Civil War, Winston Churchill, Lake Superior, sheet music, books about books, Florida and etiquette.

The contents include the following: a letter to the dealer; a 1978 catalog replete with price sheet; a huge wall or window banner measuring 12" x 52"; and a counter card (10-1/2" x 14") affixed with a pad of tear-off coupons. None were used AND we have a second unused pad as well.

The Kingswood School Class Book, 1945 (West Hartford, CT)
6 The Kingswood School Class Book, 1945 (West Hartford, CT)
West Hartford, Connecticut Kingswood School 1945 Hard cover Very Good condition
Slim, but attractive, class book with just light wear to boards. Overall very clean inside and out and tightly bound. Small bit of foxing to first and last pages only. The Kingswood School was founded in 1916 by George R.H. Nicholson as one of the nation's first independent day schools. It was named for his alma mater in England and consequently retained that school's crest, motto, colors of crimson and black, and symbol, the Wyvern, a mythological winged dragon with an eagle's claws and a serpent's tail. It 's sister school, Oxford, was for girls only and was founded in 1909. Today the schools are joined and co-ed. School actually served elementary age boys as well as those in high school, and they are featured in the photos, though the emphasis is on the class of 1945, the average age of which was 17-1/2 according to an interesting page of vital statistics. Book measures 8"x11" and has 88 pages -- and a sense of humor. If you would like me to look up somone for you please use the contact button and I'll be glad to do it.

7 The New England Historical and Genealogical Register Volume 156, January,2002
Boston New England Historical and Genealogical History 2002 Volume 156, October 2002 Like New Card cover
This book was bought in Connecticut seven years ago. Somehow though it got shelved in my genealogy area without having been listed. The only reason I saw it now was the space next to it for two other genealogies. It's a journal that is published four time a year. The articles in this issue are: the Middlebrook Sisters -- Mother and Mother-in-Law of Michael Wigglesworth; More on the Reyners; English Origin of Edward Garfield of Watertown, Mass.; Martha Ellsworth -- Second Wife of John Osborn of Windsor, CT.; Walter and Mary (Fry) Harris of New London, CT.; and Descendants of "King" Cheseborough of Newport, Rhode Island. Journal is pristine inside and out and measures 6" x 9".

Rialto Theatre Program for the Week of November 8, 1926, Bebe Daniels, Gloria Swanson, Clara Bow, Eddie Cantor
9 Bebe Daniels, Gloria Swanson, Clara Bow, Eddie Cantor Rialto Theatre Program for the Week of November 8, 1926
New York Star Program Co. 1926 Leaflet Very good condition
This is ephemera at its most ephemeral. It's a small (4-1/2" x 6") leaflet folded in half -- the odds were not great for its longevity and yet here it is. The previous owner had it in a rigid plastic sleeve and I have left it there and will send it as is. The cover picture is of Bebe Daniels, a big deal in her day. She was starring in "The Campus Flirt." What's astounding is how many shows there were in any given week. Others include "Fine Manners" with Gloria Swanson, "The Beautiful Cheat" with Laura La Plante; "Fighting with Buffalo Bill" with Wallace MacDonald; and "The Blue Streak" with Richard Talmadge. Four more are listed at back as coming attractions, the best of which was "Kid Boots" with Eddie Cantor, Clara Bow and Billie Dove.

The Stage Magazine July, 1932, Motherwell, Hiram (editor)
15 Motherwell, Hiram (editor) The Stage Magazine July, 1932
Greenwich, Connecticut Theatre Guild Volume 9, number 10 soft cover Good-plus
Theater magazines were in abundance during the 20's and 30's and some have similar names. I have many copies of Stage and just a few of this one called THE Stage. It's clean and tightly bound -- faults are minor, but visible on cover (see photo). One of the big topics (two articles on this) was summer stock andthe playhouses that provided a different summer experience across the nation. The first article is about the many barns converted to rural theatres which attracted Broadway's finest. The second is about a specific barn transformed into the Country Playhouse in Westport, Connecticut. There's also a wonderful spread on the musical "Show Boat", a story about the day vaudeville died, and how a good actor can play any part. Magazine measures 9" x 11-1/2" and has 32 pages with lots to read.
