Advertising Blotter Willard Battery Storage (Cleveland, Ohio, 1917)
2 Advertising Blotter Willard Battery Storage (Cleveland, Ohio, 1917)
St. Paul, Minnesota B&B 1917 Near fine condition
The colorful scene of a sportsman in a boat in what looks like a marshy area made me think this blotter might be newer than it is. I got out my magnifying glass and there it was though -- a 1917 date. The Willard Battery Storage company was founded in Cleveland in 1896 by Theodore Willard. It stayed the course al the way through WWII, but finally changed hands in 1952. As you can see, there's another comapany name on the blotter, the St. Thomas Storage Battery Company, but here's why. Under the phone number of St, Thomas it reads, "All Makes of Batteries Repaired. Authorized Willard Service Station for Elgin County.

7 Attica High School Commencement Program 1886 (Attica, Ohio)
Attica, Ohio Attica High School 1886 Card Very good
Very handsome little program with die-cut edges proudly commemorating the 7th Annual Commencement Program (1886) of Attica High School in Attica, Ohio (Seneca County). Very handsome design printed on cardboard folded in the center with printing on all four sides. The superintendent of the school (who was also a teacher) was R.B. Drake and the evening's address was given by Professor Chas. H. Churchill of Oberlin College. There were only seven graduates --Lilla Elane Howen, Millie Agnes Brant, James Huckingham, Clare Bel Cooper, Nellie Alice Groves, Samuel Ellsworth Leonard and Ida Luella Sanford. The program measures 3-1/4" across and 4-1/2" tall. Only fault is two tiny brown spots to outer edge at front. Otherwise beautiful. Here's an interesting fact -- research shows that 800 people were on hand that night for just seven graduates.

Very handsome postcard, a vertical color view of the main building and tower of Tri State College Angola,Indiana. The card is clearly postmarked Angola,Indiana Jan 11, 1908. It was sent to Miss Georgie Sumner of Bayard, Ohio in Columbiana County. I can't read the sender's last name -- the first is Lewis and he was from Angola. There is no message to speak of except the word Exchange. Card shows a small wear at spots along bottom edge, but is overall quite nice. It will arrive in a plastic sleeve.

Compliments of Mackinac County (Michigan, 1930)
10 Compliments of Mackinac County (Michigan, 1930)
Michigan Mackinac County 1930 soft cover Very good condition
This was very likely a freebie back in its day, targeted to vacationers ready to explore Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The booklet is filled with interesting ads which I enjoyed more than I usually do. The best one is on the back cover, The Grand Mackinac Hotel, where guests could clip-clop off the veranda for a horseback ride. Thomas' Restaurant put the date, 1930, on his ad which is how I was able to date this. Other ads include hotels, cottages, restaurants, shops, transportation and garages for car problems. The booklet is clean, nice and tightly bound. Only fault is a vertical crease, which is pretty common. Booklet has 32 pages.

Logan Centennial Souvenir Book 1816-1916 (Hocking County, Ohio Reprint 1997)
14 Logan Centennial Souvenir Book 1816-1916 (Hocking County, Ohio Reprint 1997)
Logan, Ohio Artisan Mall; Hocking County Historical Society 1990 Reprint soft cover Good condition
I bought this a couple years ago, but didn't list it because I was uncertain about the cording which binds it. Is it the real thing, or is it not? I'm inclined to say no and yet I still can't find a comparable. I've looked countless times, but it never comes up. The holes accomodate the thick cording easily and there is no sign of enlargment, so here it is! The booklet measures 9-3/4" x 12-1/2" with 64 pages printed on quality coated paper. Many very good photos and lots of information about the small town of Logan, Ohio located in Hocking County. Very handsome.

Logan County Bicentennial Photo Album (Ohio -- Extra Ephemera Laid-in)
15 Logan County Bicentennial Photo Album (Ohio -- Extra Ephemera Laid-in)
Logan County, Ohio Logan County Historical Society 1976 soft cover Fine
Oddly, here is no date on this pristine booklet, but opening remarks show that it coincided with the 200th anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence which places it in 1976. Laid-in is a brochure which is a second clue since it commemorates the 1976 designation of East Court Avenue, in Bellefontaine, Ohio as a National Historical Civil Engineering Landmark. It seems that this small town was the first place in the country to have a road paved with concrete. The booklet itself is filled with historic pictures and captions. 72 crisp, clean pages.

Very nice card with one superficial crease at center that you can feel more than see. The image is bright and without fault. Los Angeles County (Booklet 1930's)
17 Los Angeles County (Booklet 1930's)
Los Angeles Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County No date circa 1930's soft cover Fine
The colorful cover of this attractive booklet is definitely an eye catcher and the condition is superb. At first glance it appears to be a travel guide, but is not. It's a sort of state of the union telling both residents and tourists all the many reasons to be glad they're there! Oddly, it has no date, but the last year quoted for research and statistics is 1936. Black and white photographs abound and are printed on coated paper. Covers all facets of county life. Measures 5-1/4"x7-1/2". An added bonus is a flyer tucked inside from a San Francisco restaurant called The Challenger offering an economy plate luncheon at thirty cents! Two choices -- sausages or spring lamb, both with sides.

Nine Florida Brochures Titusville, Sanibel and Captiva, Sanlando Springs, Seminole County, Daytona Beach Shores, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Florida Turnpike (1960's)
19 Nine Florida Brochures Titusville, Sanibel and Captiva, Sanlando Springs, Seminole County, Daytona Beach Shores, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Florida Turnpike (1960's)
Florida Various publishers 1960's soft cover Very good
I got all of these from an estate which dated back to WWI. Everything I bought was something that held meaning for the man who owned it. This trip to Florida appears to have been the vacation of a lifetime, as these are the only travel brochures he had. Normally I would list them individually, but decided to keep them intact for old time's sake. Only one brochure is dated, but it's easy to discern that they are all from the 60's due to the clothes and hairstyles and the phone numbers which have word prefixes. All are in color except the turnpike one and the Daytona Beach Shores. The latter has black and white photos of many motels.
