1 1976 Bicentennial Cotillion Ball of Czechs and Slovaks Program (Cleveland, Ohio)
Cleveland, Ohio Czech and Slovak Cotillion Ball Committee 1976 card cover Very Good condition
Very nice booklet for an event which took place at the Sheraton Cleveland Hotel, Saturday, February 21, 1976. The booklet measures 5-1/2" tall and 8" wide with 68 clean tightly bound pages. The program lists a social hour, followed by dinner, a performance by "Jump", a Modern Dance Club from Chicago, and then dancing for everyone to Paul Burton's Orchestra. There are also photos and bios of the debutantes of which there were eight, plus photos of members of the Chicago Modern Dance Club. The rest of the booklet covers facts about various Czech and Slovak organizations and a gallery of Czech and Slovak people who excelled in many disciplines to contribute to the United States of America. Many local ads at back.

Postcard Porch Dining Room Summit Hotel, Uniontown, PA
2 Postcard Porch Dining Room Summit Hotel, Uniontown, PA
Mil;aukee, Wisconsin E.C. Kropp Co. Unknown Very good
This is very pretty card which also tells much about the Summit Hotel on the reverse side. It was open only from April through November and offered its guests golf, tennis, saddle horses, miniature golf, dancing and "moving pictures." There were 100 rooms with running hot and cold water, steam heat, private baths and telephone. Among the celebrities who stayed there are President and Mrs. Harding, General Pershing, Thomas Edison, Henry and Edsel Ford, Cornelius and Reginald Vanderbilt and John Burroughs, author of many books on natural history. Card is clean and attractive with just a tiny spot at corner of stamp box. Has not been postally used and there is no writing. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Program Metropolitan Opera House Romeo & Juliet (Maria Tallchief, 1945)
4 Program Metropolitan Opera House Romeo & Juliet (Maria Tallchief, 1945)
New York City Metropolitan Opera House 1945 soft cover Very good condition
This is a very nicely kept program. Had it not been folded in half vertically, as theater-goers tend to do, it would be perfect. I ironed it and put it in the book press and it's now completely flat. The program shows the seating diagram, and of course the cast of the narrative ballet, Romeo and Juliet, which was staged in one act. I checked out the list of performers and found Maria Tallchief in a lesser role. But a little research showed that at the time Tallchief, the first Native American ballerina, was dancing for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. This was very early in her career, but in just two years (1947) she would become the first prima ballerina of the New York City Ballet. The peogram measures 6-1/2" x 9" with 24 pages. Great ads too. Program: The Regimental Band of the Scots Guards the Pipes, Drums & Highland Dancers of the Black Watch (1983)
5 Program: The Regimental Band of the Scots Guards the Pipes, Drums & Highland Dancers of the Black Watch (1983)
New York Columbia Artists Festival Corp. 1983 soft cover Good
Nice, clean oversized program which measures 9"x12" and is illustrated throughout with both black and white and color photographs. Pages are not numbered, but I counted 22, all filled with information about the Scots Guards, the Black Watch and the Regimental Band, as well as about the Highland dancing and the bagpipe. The program itself takes up a two page spread at center. Only faults are two light scratches to cover and a small bit of rubbing to bottom front corner next to spine. Pages show no writing or creasing.

Sears Happi Time Toy Town Dancing Santa (1949)
6 Sears Happi Time Toy Town Dancing Santa (1949)
Chicago Sears & Roebuck 1949 Very good
A Christmas novelty that has been nicely kept. The ribbon at the top was there when I bought it, but is not original to the toy. It came with nothing in the holes so that a long string can be inserted for Santa to move along on -- of course you can take the ribbon out and do that. The center section reminds me of the lath for plastering walls, only made of cardboard. Its the spaces between the slats which help Santa jump and dance when held by the top of his head. He also folds down to a reasonable size for shipping. Santa is 16" tall when fully extended and 10" across elbow to elbow. Pretty cute and not often a survivor!

Stage The Magazine of After Dark Entertainment November, 1936 (George Kaufman, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin)
7 Stage The Magazine of After Dark Entertainment November, 1936 (George Kaufman, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin)
New York Stage Publishing Company 1936 soft cover Very good Condition
Very nice entertainment magazine devoted to nighttime pleasures including dining and dancing, but especially theatre. It's oversized at 10"x14" and has 116 pages. Lots to read, but I think the main story is Men At Work, a lengthy look at musical greats George Kaufman, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. Another fun p0iece is about going to Russia to make the rounds of the Russian theaters. Also of interest are the story of the musical White Horse Inn,T he Alchemy of Music, and the New York Angle on World Wide Fashion. The subscription card is unused and still bound it and there is no mailing label.

8 Stage; The Magazine of After-Dark Entertainment Nov. 1937 (George M. Cohan as FDR, Somerset Maugham. Tallulah Bankhead)
New York Stage Publishing Company Inc. 1937 soft cover Fine condition
Magazine is so crisp and clean it's hard to believe its age. It's an oversized one measuring 10"x14" and dedicated to entertainment after dark -- dining, dancing, movies and theatre. There's lots to read and photos of many talents of the day, including the author, Somerset Maugham, Tallulah Bankhead and more. There's also a fun feature showing half the face of a star and half that of an historical personage. Also there's a story on caricatures,a piece on George M. Cohan starring on Broadway as Franklin Delano Roosevelt and how supper clubs needed more than beauty from their entertainers-- they also wanted athleticism. Great ads too, especially a perfume ad for Liu Guerlaine perfume in full color. Other color ads are for Camel cigarettes, Packard, Four Roses, and Old-Grand-Dad Whiskey.

The Royal Academy of Dancing Gala Matinee of Ballet 1958 (Margot Fonteyn)
9 The Royal Academy of Dancing Gala Matinee of Ballet 1958 (Margot Fonteyn)
London The Royal Acedemy of Dancing 1958 card cover Good condition
Large program bound with quality golden cording. It measures 9" x 12" and is clean and bright inside. The cover is a bit toned around the edges and there are indications of nibbling to upper corners. I repaired them with archival tape which smooths it out and keeps the tiny chads from the abrasions to keep from tearing. Archival tape is non-browning and almost invisible. Inside there are full page photos of the Queen Mother, The Princess Margaret and others. But the focus is on the ballet and its dancers -- Alicia Markova, Yvette Chauvire, Youly Algaroff, Henning Kronstam, Kirsten Simone, Lucette Aldous, Norman Morrice, John Gilpin, Mona Inglesby, Anita Landa, Margot Fonteyn, and Michael Somes. 34 counted pages. Third Street Music Settlement Booklet, New York City 1949-1950 Season
10 Third Street Music Settlement Booklet, New York City 1949-1950 Season
New York, New York Third Street Music Settlement 1949 soft cover Good
Very nice booklet measuring 6"x8-3/4". Plain tan wraps printed in black ink at face. Only fault is small spot at top front. Illustrated with black and white photographs. Third Street Music School Settlement, the nation's oldest community music school, was founded in 1894 by Emilie Wagner to provide pleasure and instruction to impoverished immigrants of New York's Lower East Side. It continues today. Here we have a booklet explaining the program and its offerings for the 1949-50 school year for both adults and children. In addition to instrument lessons, there were voice, opera, rhythmic dancing and children's music appreciation courses. Inside the back cover and continuing over to the back itself are time slots with penciled names and the age of each child, ranging from three to nine. Could be erased, but they are an interesting adjunct to the text. 16 pages.

Virginia First in the Heart of the Nation Magazine 1931
11 Virginia First in the Heart of the Nation Magazine 1931
Richmond, Virginia Virginia State Chamber of Commerce 1931 Volume VI, number 1 soft cover Good-plus
This a large magazine published by the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce to tout the glories of the state in hope of encouraging tourists. There's no articles -- just montages of black and white photographs designed to encourage the reader to book a trip. The magazine measures 10"x13" and is very clean with the exception of the margin at lower corner of back cover. I did gently clean it, but it's a delicate process, so I didn't get too aggressive. There is also a short tear to the bottom of the spine, but that was easy to repair with non-browning, almost invisible archival tape. I love the cover. It reminds me of The Music Man and the dancing girls -- "one Grecian urn, two Grecian urns!" 21 beautiful pages.

14 Houston, Ron Folk Dance Problem Solver 2016
No location Self-published 2016 9781930890486 Annual Card cover Fine condition
I've been selling ephemera for 20 years and yet I have never seen this guide. I thought it was a stand-alone until I opened the cover and realized that this was the 30th annual issue. It's very well done -- much information on how to emulate dances from all over the world. It is certainly a labor of love -- it's very difficult to turn dance steps into words that are easy to understand. Among the dances in this year's issue are these: The Dorset Four Hand Reel (England); Fjaskern (Swedish, Hurry-Scurry); Lauterbacher (Austrian); Old Family Waltz (Danish); Perinta (English, kissing dance); Polka Dot Polka (American round dance); Tarantella (Italy) and more. Guide measures 9" x 11" and is pristine inside and out. Spiral binding is completely intact. 77 pages.

Collier's Magazine June 29, 1946 (Russia, Cost of TV, Native American Dance), La Cossitt, Henry (editor)
15 La Cossitt, Henry (editor) Collier's Magazine June 29, 1946 (Russia, Cost of TV, Native American Dance)
Springfield, Ohio Crowell Collier Publishing 1946 Volume 117, No. 26 soft cover Very Good condition
Usually there's a name or two that jumps out of Collier's, but this time no luck. It's still interesting though with a hard look at what Russia was up to in 1949, penned by Frank Gevasi; an article about how much money it was going to cost to make TV mainstream; and Native American dancing by various tribes (beautiful pictures). There's also a really cool ad by Wurlitzer advertising a jukebox that looks like a work of art! As always, this magazine has fiction too. Magazine measures 10-1/4" x 13-3/4" and sports 82 pages. The whole thing is beautiful inside and out with a spine that feels like satin.

Aberdeen Holiday Pictorial: The Silver City By the Sea , 1930's, No Author stated
17 No Author stated Aberdeen Holiday Pictorial: The Silver City By the Sea , 1930's
Aberdeen, Scotland Henry Munro LTD. No date circa 1930's Card cover Very good condition
Very handsome travel guide which measure 5-1/2"x 8-1/2" with 112 pages. The best part is the black and white photographs which emphasize fun better than most such publications of the era. Here the emphasis is on action shots of tourists and natives alike dancing, fishing, swimming, riding carnival rides and just plain acting silly. There are also scenic shots and lots of info on stuff to do, places to stay, restaurants, and Scottish things to buy. There's a fold-out map in the center of the book, but there's no date. However, given the cars in the ads and the clothing on the people it's got to be the 30's. There's also a flier laid-in inviting tourists to visit the Aberdeen Corporation Baths. (Travel Box I)
