In Toleration, 1995, Battersby, Helen
4 Battersby, Helen In Toleration, 1995
Canada Fox River Paper Company 1995 Card cover Fine condition
I've had this since 1995 when it was new. Several times I took it out with the idea of listing it, but I never did. Now, twelve years later, it's moment has come. The front and back of the cover has writing, black on black, from the preamble to the Charter of the United Nations. Inside there is one sentence penned by Kahlil Gibran from his book Sand and Foam, 1926. The quote is this: "We shall never understand one another until we reduce the language to seven words." And that is how many there are here -- seven -- compassion, pathos, perception, temperance, balance, truth and possibility. Each word is paired with a work of art by these seven artists: Chris Nicholls, Paul Dallas, Anita Kunz, Hayes Henderson. Steven Evans, Sandra Dionisi and Ed Gajdel. Booklet measures 9" x 11-1/2" and is a rather scarce item.

The Betty Fairy Book (1915), Flint, Helen E.
6 Flint, Helen E. The Betty Fairy Book (1915)
Rochester, New York Stecher Lith. Co. 1915 card cover Good-plus
Very handsome graphics to both front and back cover, plus charming art inside. These are the kind of children's books that don't survive well, if at all. It's a big one measuring 7-1/2"x13-1/4". The art is by Margaret Evans Price who was a popular illustrator of the day, but also a co-founder of the Fisher-Price Toy Company in 1930! The book s tightly bound and clean with a few small stray spots to covers and a small bit of edge wear and wear to spine. Staples have rusted, but have not stained the pages. Overall quite good.

A Visit To Santa Claus (Art by Margaret Evans Price), No Author named
8 No Author named A Visit To Santa Claus (Art by Margaret Evans Price)
Rochester, New York Stecher Lithographic Company No date, circa 1917 Card cover Good condition Price, Margaret Evans
This is a charming little book, the kind that small people are wont to "decorate" and/or relieve of its pages. Fortunately, all pages are here and there is no scribbling. The story is cute, but the art of Margaret Evans Price is the show stealer. An interesting sideline is this fact -- while being am illustrator, Evans and her husband were creating a toy company known to this day as Fisher-Price. The booklet measures 7-1/2" x 10-1/2" and has just 14 counted pages. Every other page is either in full color or in blue and orange. The booklet measures 7-1/2" x 10-1/2".

The Firelands Pioneer New Series Volume XXIII April, 1915, Power, Esther Gibbs, Editor
9 Power, Esther Gibbs, Editor The Firelands Pioneer New Series Volume XXIII April, 1915
Norwalk, Ohio The Firelands Historical Society 1915 Volume XXIII Card cover Very good condition
Very nice clean magazine with just one defect, a small loss of the outer paper on the front cover at the two outer corners. Otherwise it's pristine and includes a perfect spine. The magazine focuses on the annual meeting which is actually interesting because there are small talks from the people on anything they wanted to discuss. The best topic is The Free Love Community, including the Free Lovers of Berlin Heights! Other topics are Cedar Point, a woman who lived too long, and the execution of Edward Evans and more. The magazine advertise that it's about history, biography and genealogy. This time that material comes from obituaries and includes many surnames. The magazine measures at 6" x 9" and includes a few photographs.

The Adventures of Snooki and Snak (Hard cover coloring book 1928), Roy, Lillian Elizabeth
10 Roy, Lillian Elizabeth The Adventures of Snooki and Snak (Hard cover coloring book 1928)
New York Grosset & Dunlap 1928 Unknown Hard cover Very good No DJ
Have you ever seen a hard cover coloring book? I never did until I found this one and have never seen one since. The reason it's alive and well is the fact that it was never colored. Had it been, the odds are good that it would have been tossed out, or the pictures torn out. As it is, the book is clean and attractive inside and out. There's a couple tiny chips to the paste-on picture at the front and also a few small page tears which were repaired by me with non-browning archival tape. A small bit of wear to top of spine does not impinge on the integrity of the binding. The book was a gift and the inscription at front is wonderful - "Letitia Jean Evans Presented by Marilyn Davis at her party Saturday, October 4, 1930." The book measures 8-3/4" x 9-3/4" and has 127 clean pages which tell a rollickign story too. Illustrations(30 of them)are by Hale Merritt.
