E.H. Wright Advertising For Boys and Girls Down on the Farm
4 E.H. Wright Advertising For Boys and Girls Down on the Farm
Kansas City, Missouri E. H. Wright Company Unknown Early 20th Century (No date) soft cover
This is a cute little booklet designed to attract children, but also contains info for grown-ups to buy Wright's Condensed Smoke and Wright's Ham Pickle. The latter was huge -- 27 lbs of pickling salt which would cure as much as 280 pounds of meat! The booklet derived from the home office and was sent to smaller companies to send to their customers. In this instance it was stamped on the back F.H. Nickerson, Druggist, Greenwich, Ohio. The booklet is clean and nice with two tiny staple holes from mailing. Booklet measures 4-1/4"x7" and has 14 counted pages, each with color illustrations for the kids.

8 Fortune Magazine August, 1935; Chrysler, Sherwin Williams Paint, Saratoga and Philippine Gold
New York Fortune-Time Corporation August,1935 Volume XXII, No. 2 Card cover Very good conditon
This is a very nice clean issue. The first page of the text which is printed on heavy, uncoated paper shows a bit of toning to edges, due to a color ad next to it. The magazine is big measuring 11-1/2" x 14" and has very good ads, plus these topics for articles:Chrysler; A Farm In Illinois with paintings by S.R. Badman; Women in Business II, but a stand alone about office workers; Philippine Gold; Saratoga with paintings by Sanford Ross; and especially for Ohioans, the Sherwin- Williams Paint Company

Hartman Stock Farm Horse Department 1905 (Columbus, Ohio)
9 Hartman Stock Farm Horse Department 1905 (Columbus, Ohio)
Columbus, Ohio Hartman Stock Farm 1904 soft cover Very good condition
This is a horse lover's information/advertising book issued by S.C. and M.D. Hartman, importers and breeders of Percheron Draft and German Coaching horses for their Columbus, Ohio farm. The Hartmans also operated a poultry department, but the only reference to that here is a full page color ad and a few pictures of outbuildings and a couple pages of info. The spotlight is definitely on the horses. Contents include, among other topics, these: the Barb, or the horse of the Sahara; an anatomical study of the horse; a study of the mouth of a horse; description and illustrations of Hartman Farm; origin of the Percheron; imported Percherons, home bred Percherons; and the German coach horse. Book is clean and tightly bound, measures 7-1/2" x 10" and has 189 pages printed on quality coated paper. Only faults are a spine crease and a bit of light foxing to exterior page edges. Otherwise quite good. Hard to find.

Our Home Scrapbook No. 3, Masonite Corporation (1943)
11 Our Home Scrapbook No. 3, Masonite Corporation (1943)
U.S.A. Masonite Corproation 1943 Scrapbook No. 3 soft cover Very good condition
I acquired this along with several other booklets advertising the dream of a new or renovated home after WWII. Most of them were dated a little closer to the end of the war -- this one is earlier at 1943. The goal was to assuage the pent-up desire with the promise of new items, new technologies, new homes. The charming French house on the first spread is the perfect opener, even if too small by today's standards. The booklet offers much information on kitchens, insulation, entrance doors, farm buildings and much more. It measures 8-1/2" x 11" with 22 pages and sports a nice Cleveland, Ohio ad for the Appalachian Hardwood Lumber Co. on the back cover. Very nice collectible.

12 Portage County Farm Bureau First Annual Year Book 1932 (Ohio)
Portage County, Ohio Portage County Farm Bureau 1932 First Edition soft cover Very good
Just got this from a collector who loved farm related ephemera. It's fairly hard to find, but interesting not only for its farm content, which mostly consists of the make-up of the bureau in various Portage Co. towns, but for its local names and accompanying advertising. Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 44 pages. Covers the following towns: Atwater, Aurora, Brimfield, Charlestown, Deerfield, Edinburg, Mantua, Palmyra, Paris, Randolph, Ravenna, Rootstown, Shalersville, Streetsboro, Suffield and Windham.

The Houghton Line: Not A Yes-Magazine (13 issues 1964-1972)
17 The Houghton Line: Not A Yes-Magazine (13 issues 1964-1972)
Philadelphia E. F. Houghton & Company 1964-1972 soft cover Very good condition
I haven't seen these quirky little magazines since I first started in business 19 years ago. So I'm pretty tickled to find them again. Houghton just celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015. To celebrate they printed a special issue of the popular magazine which was closed down in 2008. These 13 I have now are nice and clean, all identical in format and design -- just different accent colors. They're small in size measuring just 4"x7" and are billed as a publication "for people who like to do their own thinking." Topics range from products made by the company and other interesting things that have nothing to do with it. Let's start with the industrial articles which include these products: Cindol lubricants high-temp lubes, Houghto-Safe 1120, Houghton custom molded rubber parts and I-rings and more. The rest of the articles cover these topics and more: Football as big business, metal-working in a blind school, the big boom for small boats, Houghton in Sweden, Soccer Discovers America, the progress and problems of trucking, tuna fishing off Rhode Island, our farm paradox, in defense of industry, living costs around the world, and sports highest paid lightweights. The magazines measure 4" x7" and have 46 pages each. Issues include these: April 1964, Dec. 1964, Feb. 1967, June 1967, Dec., 1967, April 1968, June 1968, Sept. 1968, April 1969, Sept 1969, Dec. 1969, June 1971. Fall 1972.

Warren Real Estate Exchange Warren, Ohio, Cleveland,Ohio 1899-1900 C.H. Struble (Advertising pamphlet)
18 Warren Real Estate Exchange Warren, Ohio, Cleveland,Ohio 1899-1900 C.H. Struble (Advertising pamphlet)
Warren,Ohio C.H. Struble 1899 soft cover Good-plus
This is a fascinating little item -- a turn of the century pamphlet published to sell property in the Warren/Cleveland, Ohio markets. The agent was C.H. Struble and it's his picture on the front. When closed the pamphlet measures 3-1/4"x6-1/2", but opens to a large single page with printing on both sides. For such a small thing it certain offers a lot of information! Large deals and loans were a specialty, but he also offered a varied array of properties including a 10 room summer house on 29 acres with a bank barn and out-buildings, considered to be "a very desirable summer residence for any business man of Pittsburg, Youngstown or Cleveland." He also offered five lots on West Market and suggested exchanging a good farm for city property. Most of the text, however, is comprised of descriptions of various properties with one "xed" out. I tried to find info on C.H. Struble, but he seems to be lost to time. Pamphlet is clean and nice, but I did have to repair a few tears with almost invisible, non-browning archival tape.

The huge amount of photographs in black and white of pictures es of the lives of German prisoners in Great Britain. Each picture is as large as the booklet itself. Columbus, Ohio The Wonder Worm Farmers 1949 Fourth Edition soft cover Very Good
I love running across something I know nothing about, so this was a great find! It's also very practical and informative for people engaged in all sorts of activities -- vegetable gardening, growing flowers, babying orchards, greening perfect lawns, raising chickens, fishing, and creating odorless garbage disposal. The two women, who owned the Wonder Worm Famers and wrote this book offer much information and black and white photos. There is also a five page leaflet laid-in titled "My Grandfather's Earthworm Farm." Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 24 pages plus the extra leaflet.
