Fred Harvey Restaurant Menu 1945 (Aid to Military Ribbon Identification)
2 Fred Harvey Restaurant Menu 1945 (Aid to Military Ribbon Identification)
Kansas Fred Harvey Restaurants 1945 card cover Very good
Fred Harvey was a restaurant phenomenon. On this menu it sums up his amazing growth with this line, "from Cleveland to the Pacific coast." This particular menu was printed for the restaurant located in Union Station, Los Angeles and dated Monday, May 28, 1945. In addition to the patriotic cover it's interesting to see how much food has changed in America. Of course the prices are give-away by today's standards -- imagine a cocktail for 35 cents -- but you would rarely see such offerings as what Fred Harvey was serving up for lunch in '45. How about some braised smoked beef tongue with noodles and raisin sauce? Or maybe "our own baked beans with salt pork"? Nice collectible.

Showmen's Trade Review April 30, 1955 (Daddy Long Legs)
6 Showmen's Trade Review April 30, 1955 (Daddy Long Legs)
New York Charles E. "Chick" Lewis 1955 Vol. 62, No. 19 soft cover Very good
Very nice, clean trade magazine targeted at movie theater owners. All the ads and short articles are full of info on the state of the movie experience halfway through the 1950s. The big movie of this issue was definitely Daddy Long Legs, which starred Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron based the novel by Jean Webster who wrote it in 1912. The magazine measures 9" by slightly over 12". The ads of course are for adding comfort and modernity to the movie theater. Coca Cola ad on the back cover encourages its sale in the lobby.

Asheville, North Carolina The Biltmore Company 1975 soft cover Very good condition
There is a special charm to this booklet which focuses on the architecture and grounds of Biltmore. It's all about BIG, beautiful photographs with a text that's also big in print size. But the real surprise was the ticket laid-in which shows the house in full color. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 96 pages. The ticket is in excellent condition and the booklet is likewise nice, but does show a little light foxing on both sides of the cover, but none inside. The back cover also has a small ownership label in upper corner, but nothing has been written on it.

Beautiful! The art is this oversized booklet is truly lovely. What's also enjoyable about it is the fact that each one-page topic is displayed on the left side and the accompanying art on the right.
