A Brilliant History Jewels at Sotheby's (1978)
1 A Brilliant History Jewels at Sotheby's (1978)
London Sotheby's 1978 Card cover Fine condition
This is an unusual catalog for an auction, even by Sotheby's many handsome examples. This one features a famous person on each page -- the Duchess of Windsor, Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, Edna Winston, Elton John, Countess Mona Bismarck, the Count and Countess du Boisrouvray, Ava Gardner, Helene Beaumont, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and Marlene Dietrich. The jewels are top drawer from the most revered jewelers in the world and each is beautifully described. Catalog is printed on glossy paper throughout. The back paper which appears to be obstructing the photos, are just narrow strips with info on both sides. Catalog is clean and gorgeous with no names or writing. It measures 9" x 10-1/2". Very special. (Advertising)

Guy Lombardo And His Royal Canadians Booklet (SIGNED by Lombardo & Band Members, 1950's)
2 Guy Lombardo And His Royal Canadians Booklet (SIGNED by Lombardo & Band Members, 1950's)
Hollywood, California Popular Programs circa 1950's Card cover Good condition
I almost passed this one by because of the inked name on the front cover and the wear along the spine. But I opened it anyway and there was Guy Lombardo's signature! From there it got even better -- I found four more signatures from band members -- Bill Flanagan, guitarist and vocalist; Kenny Gardner, vocalist; Cliff Grass, saxman and clarinetist; Victor Lombardo, youngest brother (saxaphonist); and a name I can't decipher. It's next to Lebert Lombardo, but it's a conundrum because the first name seems to be Lebert, but the last name looks like it ends with "t." Booklet is lavishly illustrated with black and white photographs and provides much information about Guy Lombardo and his family and band. As stated, the booklet has some issues, but it's still tightly bound and clean and of course the signatures are historic.

Liberty Magazine Sept. 8, 1934 (Erle Stanley Gardner)
3 Liberty Magazine Sept. 8, 1934 (Erle Stanley Gardner)
New York Liberty Publishing Corporation 1934 soft cover Good
Magazine isn't perfect, but what a find to see a short story, The Case of the Curious Bride, by Erle Stanley Gardner at the very back. He's not even on the cover! But Gardner's here and the story features one of his most popular characters -- Perry Mason. It's also nicely illustrated in vintage 30's style. The other interesting note is a rebuttal about women's intelligence by the novelist Kathleen Norris. The magazine is clean and tightly bound but shows small chips to bottom edge and a few tiny edge tears to outer side edges which I have repaired with very small pieces of invisible archival tape. Pages have toned evenly, but there is some foxing to the outer side edge of the front cover. Magazine measures 8-1/2"x11" and has 62 pages.

Liberty Magazine July 14, 1934 (Erle Stanley Gardner), Gardner, Earle Stanley; Vanderbilt, Cornelius Jr.; St. Johns, Adela Rogers
4 Gardner, Earle Stanley; Vanderbilt, Cornelius Jr.; St. Johns, Adela Rogers Liberty Magazine July 14, 1934 (Erle Stanley Gardner)
New York Liberty Publishing Corporation 1934 Vol. II, Number 28 soft cover Good-plus
Were it not for the loss of the tip of the lower front corner of the cover and page toning inside (due to acidic paper) this one is quite good, tightly bound, and with no creasing or labels. Only one spread is considerably toned thanks to a piece of newsprint laid-in. Nonetheless it's a very special issue primarily for Part II of a serial story by Erle Stanley Gardner titled "The Case of the Curious Bride." Other interesting things are an article by Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr. titled "Society Snubs Roosevelt" and a short story, "The Roue's Daughter" by Adela Rogers St. John . Magazine measures 8-1/2" x 11-1/2" and has 58 pages.

The Monograph Series; Single Room Houses of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Gardner, George W.
5 Gardner, George W. The Monograph Series; Single Room Houses of Lincoln, Rhode Island
Unknown Whitehead, Russell F. Unknown Number I. Volume XXI soft cover Very Good Condition
A plain white cover hides a very cool secret. If you love architecture, especially that of Nee England, the huge photographs and architectural drawings will delight you. The monograph series is dedicated to "recording the architecture of the American colonies and the early republic." There is ample text, plus six detailed architectural drawings and twelve photos. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 16 pages. I have a couple more of these online at this writing and also some that are not processed yet, so if you're looking for one you don't see let me know and I'll check availability for you.

Screen Guide Magazine September, 1948 (Ave Gardner Cover), Graves, Janet, Editor
6 Graves, Janet, Editor Screen Guide Magazine September, 1948 (Ave Gardner Cover)
Dunellen, New Jersey Hillman Periodicals Inc. 1948 soft cover Very good condition
Beautifully kept magazine with Ava Gardner on the cover. There are no defects of note save one crease to lower front corner which I treated with invisible archival tape on the reverse side. This magazine has a lot of short pieces in it's Merry-Go-Round section, but also lots of full length ones for the rest. Top articles include Gypsy In Her Soul, Rita Hayworth; This Is Forever Darling, Lana Turner; Self-Portrait, June Allyson; Where There's Hope, There's Fun, Bob Hope; Phony Love Affairs of Hollywood; My Wife, Betty Grable; How A Redhead Gets Ahead, Rhonda Fleming; and much more. Magazine measures 8-1/2' x 10-3/4" and has 102 pages.

Little Big Horn Battlefield and Monument (1994 and 1996), Utley, Robert Marshall; Gardner, Mark L.
7 Utley, Robert Marshall; Gardner, Mark L. Little Big Horn Battlefield and Monument (1994 and 1996)
Washington D.C. U.S. Department of the Interior; Southwest Parks and monuments Assoc. 1994 and 2996 0912627344 / 9780912627342 Card covers Very good condition on both
I bought these two booklets from the estate of a collector, both in the same plastic bag, which makes sense. The smaller one is all about the battlefield and the larger one is about the battlefield as a monument. The smaller one measures 6" x 8-1/4" and has 112 pages. Very handsome with many color photographs and an extensive text covering Custer's Last Battle and Little Bighorn Battlefield Today. The larger booklet measures 9" square and has 15 pages, again in color. The two compliment each other well.
