Cleveland, Ohio The Plain Dealer 1944 Hard Cover Very good
This book is not seen as often as you would think. I had one ten years ago and just now got this one. They were originally written for the Sunday Cleveland Plain Dealer and appeared throughout March, April and May, 1944. Surnames included are: Black Cary, Case, Champion, Chapin, Codrington, Coe, Collens, Cox, Crawford, Dunn, Eaton, Eide, Emerson, Frackleton, Gerhauser, Girdler, Gund, Harshaw, Holliday, Hood, Hoyt, Humphrey, Johnson, Joyce, Klumph, Kulas, Ladds, Leece, Lewman, Lincoln, Martin, Mather, McCrea, McIntyre, Ogelbay, Otis, Reedall, Rivitz, Rogers, Rossiter, Sears, Smith, Stilwell, Weatherhead, Weaver, White, Woodruff and Wysor. Der Reggeboge The Rainbow; Journal of the Pennsylvania German Society July, 1979 (Fraktur Artist Christian Strenge)
6 Der Reggeboge The Rainbow; Journal of the Pennsylvania German Society July, 1979 (Fraktur Artist Christian Strenge)
Breinigsville, Pennyslvania The Pennyslvania Herman Society 1979 Vol. 13, No. 3 Soft cover Very Good
I very much like these older issues of this magazine because they have just one in-depth article. In this issue it's about Christian Strenge who was a fraktur artist and German immigrant who settled in Pennsylvania. It's interesting to read, but especially interesting if you are doing genealogical research on the Strenge name. Magazine measures 6"x9" and has 24 pages. Only fault is a tiny round stain to lower margin of front cover. I have many of these from the 70's and early 80s, so if you are looking for a specific issue let me know and I'll see if I have it.

If you are interested in Pennsylvania German genealogy this magazine is a goldmine. I have more (a fairly good sized stack), so if there's one you're seeking use the contact button and I'll see what I have. This one has an especially attractive cover which depicts a Pennsylvania Dutch Virgin Mary. Contents include a study of a Pennsylvania German broadside from the 18th & 19th centuries entitled "A Sorrowful Song About A Terrible Murder"; Pennsylvania church history; a study of a document which sought a pastor in 1731; the career of Lutheran minister, Johann Valentin Krafft; and the ordination and ministry of David Candler. Also includes a skit in both German and dialect English. Magazine measures 8"x9" and is very clean with just the bit of light edge toning.

Golden Anniversary Washington Council No. 224 Knights of Columbus, Washington D.C. 1897-1947
10 Golden Anniversary Washington Council No. 224 Knights of Columbus, Washington D.C. 1897-1947
Washington D.C. Knights of Columbus Council No. 224 1947 soft cover Good
Lots of names in this one, so excellent for genealogy. Pages and page edges are clean, as are dark blue covers, though the latter does show some dark spots to cover as you can see in the photo. The book is illustrated with photographs, including full page portraits of key prelates of the period. Much history of the Council, as well as rosters by year of officers. Also includes a full membership directory. Laid-in is a small slip of paper penned by former owner mentioning the presence of his father and grandfather by name. Those family names were Zaruba and Stokes. Book measures 6"x9" and has 118 pages printed on quality coated paper throughout.

Hebron Academy Hebron, Maine 1928 Catalog
11 Hebron Academy Hebron, Maine 1928 Catalog
Hebron, Maine Hebron Academy 1928 soft cover Good
As you can see, the cover shows dampstain, but fortunately it appears much less on the blue endpapers inside the catalog. I might have passed it by if I didn't know how hard it can be to find these old school catalogs which are interesting and also helpful with family genealogy. There is also some foxing on the photo fold-out at the front and at the back of the book -- anywhere that the paper is coated. The bulk of the catalog is NOT on coated paper though, so it is showing no foxing. This school is still in operation and traces its beginnings to the 19th century. The catalog provides the names of the Board of trustees, the calendar of school events, school history, the courses offered and what is expected of students, and a summation of available scholarships and how to get one. There's also a roster of boys from freshman through seniors. The catalog measures 6-1/2"x9-1/2" and is tightly bound with 62 pages. Also of interest is a letter inside to a Roland Leighton of Cleveland from a competing school, Bridgeton Academy, of Bridgton, Maine hoping to get him to enroll there.

Crisp, beautiful, like new book which commemorated the 75th anniversary of a beloved Cleveland Jewish Country Club which opened its doors in 1905. Though it has since closed, the Oakwood Club is a Cleveland landmark. The book is quite lovely with much gilt to face board, bright gilt printing on spine, and numerous color photographs at the back of the book. If you are interested in genealogy there are many names mentioned in these pages to add to your family's story. Old Stone Church Public Square Cleveland, Ohio 1820-1970
13 Old Stone Church Public Square Cleveland, Ohio 1820-1970
Cleveland, Ohio Old Stone Church 1970 soft cover Very Good condition
Here's another Cleveland item which I've never had before! Lately that's been happening quite a bit. Anyway, this one is very clean and nice with just a small bit of toning to edges. The cross on the front is a cut-out and the blue color is coming from the art inside. It's a painting and is tipped-in rather than having been printed on the page. The booklet measures 8"x10" and has 16 pages. Old Stone church is Presbyterian and very lovely, the backdrop for many weddings. Text consists of a formal resolution from both the Ohio Senate and the city of Cleveland commemorating the anniversary, a Highlight History spanning 1820-1970 and info on Jesse Owens who was speaking at the Church's dinner. Also names prominent people in the church and its missionaries. Helpful for genealogy. (OH2)

These registers are very helpful in genealogical research. This one has been nicely kept with no writing, and very little wear. Entries for each family offer address, names, and phone numbers. The Cody Family Association Directory 1952 (Letters, Family Tree, Anniversary Program Buffalo Bill Cody Laid-in)
15 The Cody Family Association Directory 1952 (Letters, Family Tree, Anniversary Program Buffalo Bill Cody Laid-in)
London, Ontario, Canada The Cody Family Association 1952 1952 directory soft cover Good condition, good condition of ephemera
If there is a Cody on your family tree this is an interesting genealogical reference which traces the descendants of Philip and Martha Cody of Beverly, Massachusetts 1698. The book measures 6" x 8-3/4" and is clean and tightly bound with some helpful penciled information here and there. Only fault is a rectangular brown area on first page due to an old crumbling newspaper clipping which I removed. The rest of the items are good and I have ironed them flat and sequestered them in a plastic bag. These include a Sunday bulletin from Trinity Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida where the Cody family reunion celebrated the anniversary of Buffalo Bill Cody's birth. There is a also seven generation family treea letter from the buffalo Bill Museum in cody, Wyoming and a couple letters. All of these are dated in the 1950's.

The Crimson and Gray Medina High School 1916 (Ohio)
16 The Crimson and Gray Medina High School 1916 (Ohio)
Medina,Ohio Median High School 1916 Card cover Very Good Condition
Very clean and handsome yearbook for the Class of 1916 at Medina High School, Medina, Ohio. The previous owner kept track of name changes for the girls as they married, so this is especially helpful for anyone working on Medina genealogy. of course the lower classes are given a nod too, but most of the focus is on the seniors as expected. There are club and sport pictures and info, plus alumni lists (going back to 1876) and great local ads. Really nice graphics and a sense of humor also makes it a fun keepsake. The yearbook measures 7" x 9" and has 111 pages. Very clean and tightly bound. If you are looking for a specific person I am happy to verify that "your person" is in there. Other early Medina yearbooks available. ADDENDUM: I just got a second copy of this yearbook. Very nice condition, but no name changes on this one. Buyer may choose either the name updates or no writing, whichever you like best.

17 The Fire Lands Pioneer New Series Volume I (June 1882)
Norwalk, Ohio Fire Lands Historical Society 1882 New Series Volume I soft cover Very good condition
This publication is a gem for anyone interested in Ohioana and/or genealogy. There are many articles here, but the best is the biographical section which offers bios of pioneers of the Fire Lands. The first article in this issue is rather an anomaly --The Mystery of Atlantis by S.A. Wildman. It's the only one which doesn't discuss the Fire Lands. The second one gets the ball rolling with Second Historical Period of the Fire Lands by Clark Wagoner. The rest are as follows: The Jurisprudence and Judicial Courts of the Fire Lands in the Education of the Populations by Hon. j.R. Osborn; The Four Pioneers --Stone Lane, Root and Watson; A Romance of the Great Rebellion -- A Waif of History; Reminiscences of the War of 1812; The Legend of Fort Avery and more. 18 The Firelands Pioneer New Series Volume III, (January, 1886)
Norwalk, Ohio Firelands Historical Society 1886 Volume III New Series soft cover Very good condition
I had several Fireland magazines back in 2010, but haven't had any more until now. This is one of six that I just got -- it's very good for readers of Ohio history and genealogy. There are many addresses given to the annual meeting, the first of which is The Life of Our Pioneers by General Franklin Sawyer; Pioneer Life As It Was and As It Is by C.S. Stewart; Our Work In History by Rev. J. Nelson Lewis; The Pioneer Physician by Dr. John C. Sanders of Cleveland; and Some Compensations of the Pioneer Life by Rev. J.M. Seymour. Also included are early historical incidents. Then on to Pioneer History: Legendary Account of the First Camp Meeting in the Firelands;A Fitchville Centenarian, Collins A. Brown 100 Years Old August 19, 1885; Almost a Centrarian, Martin Kellogg of Bronson 99 years on Sept. 2, 1885 and the Army Record of Soldiers From Peru, Huron County. The biographies are the best part I think. Hre are the names mentioned: Ezra and Amy G. Smith, Mrs. Lucretia Waggoneer, Miner Hall and Isaac Underhill; Mrs. John R. Osborn; Hosea Townsend; Myron N. Morris;Ira Wood; Harriet A. Messenger; Hannah Russell and Mrs.Dr. A.D. Skellenger. Other surnames are: Hakes, Quincy Adams, Watros, Maynard, Mead, Green,Sammis, Mallory, Minges, Stewart,Beecher,Scott, Smith, Clark, Conger, Bott, Worthington, Powers, Prentiss, Brooks, Husted, Higgins, White, Latimer and Fancher. The magazine is clean and nice with no names or writing. The only fault is three small areas at spine which lost paper, I have repaired them with archival tape. The magazine measures measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/4" and has 127 pages.

I very much like these publications from the County Commissioners. They have a tremendous amount of information, especially in this one, which covers the architecture of Cleveland schools, a study of the Soldiers' and Sailors Monument and the Garfield Memorial, the polychromatic treatment of Victorian Housing; and correcting paint staining on the sandstone trim of the Robert Russell Rhodes house in Cleveland among other topics. There's also a chapter with genealogical material. The booklet is oversized at 9" x 12" and has 79 pages.
