Birthday Greetings Large Rose on Brown Background. Inset Sailboat Vintage Postcard
1 Birthday Greetings Large Rose on Brown Background. Inset Sailboat Vintage Postcard
Germany Unknown Very good
This one is so striking with its shiny surface and brown and gold background which sets off the small blue inset picture of the boats and the giant pink rose. The other nice feature is the small poem next to the leaves on the left which reads, "May happiness, peace, and love combine on this natal day of thine." The card is German and has a tiny number on the back which reads "ECC Serie 30". It's embossed and was not postally used. Pencilled on the address portion of the divided back is Miss S.C. Nundahl.

Christmas Greetings From the Regiment of Midshipmen (circa 1960's)
2 Christmas Greetings From the Regiment of Midshipmen (circa 1960's)
The Regiments of Midshipmen Unknown Heavy Cradstock Fine
Beautiful, unused Christmas card fashioned from especially heavy card stock for use by the Regiment of Midshipmen. There is no date, but I am pretty sure that the image on the face depicts the chapel which may well date it from the 60's. It measures 6"x7x1/4" and opens to reveal a color painting of the U.S. frigate Constitution.

Greetings From Chicago, Chicago Art Institute Black and White Postcard
4 Greetings From Chicago, Chicago Art Institute Black and White Postcard
Chicago, Illinois International Postal Card Company Fine
A beauty in black and white sent to our girl (I have MANY of her cards) Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota from Emil who says, "Thank you for the postal you sent me. With best wishes." Maybe Emil was in Chicago to visit the Art Institute which is pictured on the card and says this of itself, "Situated on Michigan Avenue at the head of Adams St. Contains many famous paintings and works of art." The card was not mailed and shows no date, but all the cards I have belonging to Sophie are from 1906 to 1914.

5 Greetings From Florida Postcard Beach and Snow Tichnor (274)
Boston, Mass. Tichnor Quality Views 1950's Very good
This colorful postcard is one of many Florida designs which contrast fun in the sun with the weather back home. I've never had this one before though. On the left it reads "Greetings From Florida. Enjoying nature at its best, sunny skies and balmy air." On the right it continues, "while you enjoy the cold crisp air, with snow and ice everywhere." The card has not been written or sent through the mail It will arrive in a plastic sleeve.

Lake Deering Park Greetings From Portland, Maine
7 Lake Deering Park Greetings From Portland, Maine
Portland, Maine Hugh C. Leighton No Date Very Good
I think this is the prettiest card showing Deering Park in Portland, Maine I've ever seen. The white caption at the bottom left corner adds to the attractiveness. The card has not been used and is very crisp and clean with just a tiny wear spot at tip of both right corners and a small discoloration at back above stamp box. The stamp box at back is the clue that it's an older card, as it states, "One cent for United States and Island Possessions, Cuba, Canada and Mexico. Two Cents for Foreign." Card will arrive in brand new plastic sleeve.

Language of Flowers Postcard Series; Violet, Lily, Sweet Pea, three cards)
8 Language of Flowers Postcard Series; Violet, Lily, Sweet Pea, three cards)
Unknown Very good
This is a charming postcard series titled the Language of Flowers. From it we have three cards numbered 555, 556, and 563. None have been postally used. There is no date on any, but two of the three came from the same recipient (we have many of hers) and her dated cards range all from 1906 to 1914. The floweres are identified in the upper right corner along with their meaning in the language of flowers. These include violet,"faithfulness"; lily, "peace"; and sweet pea, "wish you joy." The lily card is addressed in pencil to Sophie Nundahl, Perry North Dakota with this message, "Haven't any more Easter greetings, so will have to send you this one. Clarence." The violet card just has Sophie's name and the words "from 13-3", which may be March, 1913 which makes sense if it, too, was an Easter card. The lily card was addressed to Emmett Olson, Frazer, Minnesota.

Postcard Birthday Greetings Mother of Pearl
9 Postcard Birthday Greetings Mother of Pearl
Unknown Location Unknown Publisher No date, but likely early 1900's Very Good Condition
What a pretty card this is. The box which contains the birthday greeting is actually a card pasted on the larger one, including the green bow. Inside the oval is inserted a beautiful touch of mother of pearl. The card is also nicely embossed at decorative corners and at the "frame" around the mother of pearl oval. There are two penciled names on the back, but they could be easily erased. Though card is not dated or postmarked, it's likely from the early 1900's due to the fact that it was printed in Germany. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Postcards Four Floral Birthday Greetings German (1909)
10 Postcards Four Floral Birthday Greetings German (1909)
Germany Unknown 1909 Very Good Condition
Very interesting how one person got four postcard greetings from four different well-wishers with cards that are variations of the same design -- yet here they are. All four are glossy as per design and very clean and attractive. Two have stamps on the back, but only one was postmarked which is how I found the date. The other two have messages written on the divided back, but no postage. The recipient was Josephine Hughes of Mansfield, Ohio. Each card will arrive in its own brand new plastic sleeve.

Like the Down of a Thistle (Christmas Gift Book 1948), Bell, Corydon
12 Bell, Corydon Like the Down of a Thistle (Christmas Gift Book 1948)
Cleveland, Ohio Tower Press 1948 Hard cover
Here we have a gift book printed as a holiday keepsake as indicated by a page which reads thus, "This Christmas book brings to you the season's greetings from Chas.J. Theurer of Tower Press Inc." Though I can't seem to find out who the Charles Theurer was, I do know that the author of the book, Corydon Bell, was a writer and illustrator from Tiffin, Ohio who worked as a team with his wife, Thelma, who also wrote and illustrated. Thelma is not mentioned here as both story and pictures were created by Corydon, but she was quite accomplished. The book is very cheaminf and measures just 5"x8" with 30 crisp, clean pages. Onlt fault is a small tear at bottom of spine, which I was able to reglue. It's holding nicely/

14 Van Dyke, Henry The Story of the Other Wise Man (Stahl Gear & Machine co. Cleveland)
Cleveland, Ohio The Stahl Gear & Machine Company Unknown Card Cover Very Good
These suede-carded Christmas books generally were published by a wholesaler who sold them to various companies with an insertion page advertising the business. The buyer then distributeds copies to clients and colleagues as Christmas gifts. This one, however, shows no third party publisher and no date. The only clue to origin is the first page which reads "To you who have helped make this past year a pleasant one, it is a pleasure to extend cordial Seasons Greetings and sincere good wishes for the New Year. The Stahl Gear and Machine Company, Cleveland, Ohio." There's no date either, but it's vintage. The booklet measures 5-1/2"x8-1/2" and is bound with gold cording. The story is a Christmas classic written by the prolific Henry Van Dyke. Beautiful full color art -- six plates. 22 pages and in lovely condition.
