Beautiful Windows By Judd (1930's)
1 Beautiful Windows By Judd (1930's)
New York City Draper Fixtures by Judd Circa-1930's soft cover Very Good
I have a soft spot for interior design items so of course this one jumped right into my hand! Its very attractive with a green suede-like cover printed in gilt at face. The paper is coated and the pictures are quite lovely -- vignettes of rooms showing windows augmented by curtain hardware used as decoration. Judd did't sell window treatments -- they sold upscale window hardware. The booklet measures 6"x9-3/4" and 32 illustrated pages. Each spread describes (much text) something different such as cornices and swinging cranes, how to decorate windows in specific rooms, how to pleat drapes, and how to measure. Lovely!

How to Build A Better Home / Copper and Brass Research Association
3 How to Build A Better Home / Copper and Brass Research Association
New York Copper and Brass Research Association circa 1920's-30's soft cover Very good
Very nice booklet oversized at 8"x10-1/2" Though clearly an advertising vehicle for the Copper and Brass Research Association, the contents are most impressive -- NOT a "fluff piece." It's illustrated throughout with both photographs and drawings with the emphasis on the use of brass and copper as an investment for the future -- copper roofs, copper leaders and gutters, brass plumbing, and copper, brass or bronze hardware. Booklet has 31 pages and is clean and tightly bound. The top front edge shows evidence of something stamped on it at one time, but is smudged. There is no date, and few clues, but a drawing of a family in front of a house indicate by woman's clothing that it's 1920's or 30's.

4 Read, William Letterhead Receipt William Read & Son Importers of Guns, Sporting Apparatus and Hardware Goods (1863, Boston)
Boston, Massachusetts William Read & Son 1863 Very good condition
This is an interesting receipt SIGNED by William Read who was in business for a long time with his son. This document is dated 1863, but I saw online a Read catalog dated in the early 1900's. The Reads were located at No. 13 Faneuil Hall Square, Boston, Mass.. Printed beneath the address is this, "Agents for the sale of Colts, Bacons, and Allen's pistols and rifles. The Spencer repeating rifle, Sharps and Ballard's rifles, Hazard's Gunpower and New York Shot. Constantly on hand Cannon, muskets, cutlasses, boarding, pikes, canister and grape shot, &c, &C for Ships' use. Also flint and percussion muskets, rifles and pistols by the quantity for shipping." The receipt is SIGNED by Read and the amount for two items is $12.25. On the back are other numbers. The item is 4-1/2" x 8-1/2". the paper is crisp and tinted light blue.
