The Fire Lands Pioneer New Series Volume I (June 1882)
1 The Fire Lands Pioneer New Series Volume I (June 1882)
Norwalk, Ohio Fire Lands Historical Society 1882 New Series Volume I soft cover Very good condition
This publication is a gem for anyone interested in Ohioana and/or genealogy. There are many articles here, but the best is the biographical section which offers bios of pioneers of the Fire Lands. The first article in this issue is rather an anomaly --The Mystery of Atlantis by S.A. Wildman. It's the only one which doesn't discuss the Fire Lands. The second one gets the ball rolling with Second Historical Period of the Fire Lands by Clark Wagoner. The rest are as follows: The Jurisprudence and Judicial Courts of the Fire Lands in the Education of the Populations by Hon. j.R. Osborn; The Four Pioneers --Stone Lane, Root and Watson; A Romance of the Great Rebellion -- A Waif of History; Reminiscences of the War of 1812; The Legend of Fort Avery and more. Surnames from bios are these:Rev.Alfred Newton, John Seymour, Joseph M. Root, John Tifft, Dr. William F. Kittredge, Dr. George Griswold Baker, Mrs. Mary A. Baker, Mrs. Charlotte Merry, Carhaine Gallup, Shepherd Patrick, Phebe Williamson, Oran Rowland, Henry Adams and James White, Jame Arnold, Rachel Andrews, Samuel Louis, Daniel Mallory and more. Other surnames are Thompson, McCurdy, Knapp, Vredenburgh, Minuse, Sherman, Dibble, Sears, Smith, Todd, Fay, Wilcox, Wilcoxson, Husted, Burt, Chapin, Beverstock, Colton, Punderson and still more. Magazine measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/4 and has 166 pages.

The Firelands Pioneer New Series Volume III, (January, 1886)
2 The Firelands Pioneer New Series Volume III, (January, 1886)
Norwalk, Ohio Firelands Historical Society 1886 Volume III New Series soft cover Very good condition
I had several Fireland magazines back in 2010, but haven't had any more until now. This is one of six that I just got -- it's very good for readers of Ohio history and genealogy. There are many addresses given to the annual meeting, the first of which is The Life of Our Pioneers by General Franklin Sawyer; Pioneer Life As It Was and As It Is by C.S. Stewart; Our Work In History by Rev. J. Nelson Lewis; The Pioneer Physician by Dr. John C. Sanders of Cleveland; and Some Compensations of the Pioneer Life by Rev. J.M. Seymour. Also included are early historical incidents. Then on to Pioneer History: Legendary Account of the First Camp Meeting in the Firelands;A Fitchville Centenarian, Collins A. Brown 100 Years Old August 19, 1885; Almost a Centrarian, Martin Kellogg of Bronson 99 years on Sept. 2, 1885 and the Army Record of Soldiers From Peru, Huron County. The biographies are the best part I think. Hre are the names mentioned: Ezra and Amy G. Smith, Mrs. Lucretia Waggoneer, Miner Hall and Isaac Underhill; Mrs. John R. Osborn; Hosea Townsend; Myron N. Morris;Ira Wood; Harriet A. Messenger; Hannah Russell and Mrs.Dr. A.D. Skellenger. Other surnames are: Hakes, Quincy Adams, Watros, Maynard, Mead, Green,Sammis, Mallory, Minges, Stewart,Beecher,Scott, Smith, Clark, Conger, Bott, Worthington, Powers, Prentiss, Brooks, Husted, Higgins, White, Latimer and Fancher. The magazine is clean and nice with no names or writing. The only fault is three small areas at spine which lost paper, I have repaired them with archival tape. The magazine measures measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/4" and has 127 pages.

Tales of Ante Bellum Hilton Head Island Families (1970), Peeples, Rev. Robert E.H.
6 Peeples, Rev. Robert E.H. Tales of Ante Bellum Hilton Head Island Families (1970)
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Self-published 1970 soft cover Very Good condition
This booklet is something of a plain Jane, but it's filled with 16 pages of dense text including a bibliography. It's also scarce. There is much history here beginning with the arrival of Captain William Hilton in 1663 followed three years later by Captain Robert Sanford. Much reference is also made to "Our Family Circle" which includes South Carolina families headed by Lindgrave Thomas Smith, French Huguenot pastor Pierre Robert, Littleberry Bostick, Capt. William Lawton, Paul Grimall, Capt. James Erwin, Col. William Stafford and Captains Samuel and William Maner. Booklet measurs 5-1/2" x 8-1/2". Very clean and tightly bound with no names or writing. Only fault is a small light stain to front cover.

A Quick History of Ourway (New, 1999), Smith, P. David
7 Smith, P. David A Quick History of Ourway (New, 1999)
US,A. Western Reflections Inc. 1999 1890437115 / 9781890437114 Card cover BRAND NEW
I buy very few brand new things and this was no exception. It was published in 1999 which doesn't make it new, but somehow the buyer never took the shrink wrap off which has kept it from looking new. Ouray, Gem of the Rockies, was a boom and bust mining town in Colorado. Silver made Ouray rich until the Silver Crash of 1893. But gold kept the town from becoming a ghost town. There's more to this history, but I wanted to keep the booket pristine, so I will leave it to the buyer to open it. The booklet measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2".

This monograph is very scarce in its original edition from 1893, but here we have it, a little tattered, but not too bad (see photos of front and back). The contents are very clean and tightly bound. The text of this booklet was read before the New York Historical Society February 7, 1893. It contains thirty pages of dense text which outlines the history of NYC political parties and their meeting places from 1653.
