Nine Florida Brochures Titusville, Sanibel and Captiva, Sanlando Springs, Seminole County, Daytona Beach Shores, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Florida Turnpike (1960's)
4 Nine Florida Brochures Titusville, Sanibel and Captiva, Sanlando Springs, Seminole County, Daytona Beach Shores, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Florida Turnpike (1960's)
Florida Various publishers 1960's soft cover Very good
I got all of these from an estate which dated back to WWI. Everything I bought was something that held meaning for the man who owned it. This trip to Florida appears to have been the vacation of a lifetime, as these are the only travel brochures he had. Normally I would list them individually, but decided to keep them intact for old time's sake. Only one brochure is dated, but it's easy to discern that they are all from the 60's due to the clothes and hairstyles and the phone numbers which have word prefixes. All are in color except the turnpike one and the Daytona Beach Shores. The latter has black and white photos of many motels.

Real Photo Postcard Taylor Inn Lodi, Ohio 1910
5 Real Photo Postcard Taylor Inn Lodi, Ohio 1910
New York The Rotograph Company 1910 Good-plus
I have had many Taylor Inn cards over the years, but never this one. Not only is it a real photo (and is even marked as such), but it also shows a woman walking on the street trailing a fancy dress in her wake -- which is rather surprising given that Lodi was a small agrcultural town. The two appendages in the front to the right of the awning that says DRUGS (which I don't recall seeing before either) are two awninged bays fitted with masses of flowers in boxes. The card is postmarked Sept, 24, 1910 and was sent to Mrs. B. Kennedy of Summit Street, Akron, Ohio. The message reads, "Another chicken dinner. Wish you were here too. Lottie. 9/24/10." Card will arrive in a plastic sleeve.

Sotheby's Auction The Estate of Jacqueliine Kennedy Onassis April 23-26, 1996
6 Sotheby's Auction The Estate of Jacqueliine Kennedy Onassis April 23-26, 1996
New York, New York Sotheby's 1996 Card cover Very good condition
This is a large and beautiful auction catalog which was published after Jackie's death. The book is clean and nice, but it does have a couple defects. I don't know if the absentee form was loose, or not, but if the previous owner put it in it's with white tape on one side. The only other problem is that the form is a small bit bigger than the other pages. The catalog shows many lovely photographs with Jackie and JFK, with their children, and their family. There is biographical info and pages of lovely rooms and many stunning items -- American decorative arts and furniture; American paintings, antiquities, books and manuscripts, contemporary art, European furniture, gneral fine arts, Impressionist paintings, Indian and SE Asian art, jewelry, fashion, 19th century European paintings, Old Master paintings, porcelain, prints, rugs and carpet, Russian icons and art; and silver. The catalog measures 9" x 11-1/2" and includes all 1195 items. P.S. I forgot that there is a crease on the spine, likely because of the huge number of pages. The crease in no ways inmpinges on the spine.

9 No author stated Four Dark Days in History; A Photo History of President Kennedy's Assassination
Los Angeles, CA. Special Publications Inc. 1963 Collectors' Edition soft cover Very good condition The Evening Star, Washington D.C.
This is a common publication, but a very good one for looking back at the death of President Kennedy and also looking at it for the first time. The photographs are very large and tell the story greatly with the help of the text and the captions under the photos. It begins with the breakfast in Texas and the president's final talk. Fromthere a few pages are given to the motorcade until the shots hit the president. The story goes on until the funeral is over and the the First Lady takes the American flag presented to her. The last items are the Congrssional Record for both the House and the Senate. The booklet measures 8-1/4" x 10-3/4" and has 59 counted pages. The binding is secure and there are no creases or writing. A Tribute to John Fitzgerald Kennedy by Helen Steiner Rice (1963), Rice, Helen Steiner
11 Rice, Helen Steiner A Tribute to John Fitzgerald Kennedy by Helen Steiner Rice (1963)
Cincinnati, Ohio Gibson Greeting Cards 1963 card cover Good condition
This very handsome tribute to JFK is quite scarce. The poem inside was written by Helen Steiner Rice and is likely in one of her many books. But this trubute is beautifully designed including the raised gold medallion on the cover. It's also quite large at 7"x11". The poem was read on the Lawrence Welk Show on November 30, 1963. The Gibson Card Company must have had a relationship with Lawrence Welk because I once had five miniature books, each of which had one Steiner-Rice poem for text and three of those five were also read on the show. The tribute is very clean and nice, but it does show age toning to the front around the edges predominately.

Booklet Abraham Lincoln and the New Almaden Mine (1936), Shutes, Milton H.
12 Shutes, Milton H. Booklet Abraham Lincoln and the New Almaden Mine (1936)
San Francisco Lawton & Kennedy 1936 Reprint solft cover Very good condition
This is a remarkably hard booklet to find, as it's a reprint from the California Historical Society Journal. It's very clean and nice with no names or writing. The binding consists of a single staple as per design and silver cording. The holes for the cord are original, but the cording itself is clearly contemporary, though it looks very nice. Booklet includes one historic photo of the mine at frontis and 20 pages measuring 7" x 10", all with a dense text. The Almaden Mine was located in the Capilancilla range in Santa Clara and the first mining community in the state. In 1863 Abraham Lincoln had been told that the title to the mine was not proven, so he launched an attempt to take it over, but soon backed off in order to secure California's support for the Civil War. Lincoln had always wanted to visit California, but died before he did. (Hist-II)

Nine Presidents: Character Sketches From Personal Interviews by Thomas Vail (2002), Vail, Thomas
13 Vail, Thomas Nine Presidents: Character Sketches From Personal Interviews by Thomas Vail (2002)
Cleveland, Ohio Thomas Vail 2002 Card cover Fine condition Fine dustjacket
This is a very handsome booklet, the second one I've had. It's a very impressive presentation with a white card cover wrapped with a substantial dustjacket. The author was publisher and editor of the the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1963-1991. To produce this booklet he conducted in-person interviews with the nine presidents -- Harry Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and the White House itself! Profiles were written from a Republican point of view. Each interview is accompanied by a very nice photograph of the author with the subject. Booklet measures 7" x 10" and has 78 pages. Would make a nice gift.
