Change the Date Novelty Congratulations Postcard 1908
1 Change the Date Novelty Congratulations Postcard 1908
Unknown 1909 Very good
This is a truly unique postcard, as there are two operating wheels which allow you to change both the month and the day. Both work very well, but you have to grasp the slim edges with your nails to do it. Quite a novelty and very pretty in pastel. The card was mailed with no message to Bertha Randall of 310 W/. Smith Road, Medina, Ohio -- right here when I am! Only fault is an erasure at front of green mailbox where name of sender had been.

3 Real Photo Postcard Old Settlers Reunion Brunswick, Ohio August 13, 1910
Brunswick, Ohio 1910 Very Good
Very handsome group shot of the members of the Old Settlers, which was most likely comprised of the descendants of the early pioneers who settled in Brunswick, Medina County, Ohio. The printing on the card shows the date August 13, 1910. They appear to be grouped in front of a church with everyone decked out in their finery. Especially charming are the little girls in the front row at the far right. The card is in very good condition save a gray stain to reverse side of divided back.

Real Postcard Seville, Ohio Flood March 25, 1913
4 Real Postcard Seville, Ohio Flood March 25, 1913
Seville, Ohio C. Burkholder 1913 Very good condition
This sepia real photo postcard shows a glimpse of the small town of Seville, Ohio located in Medina County. The date was March 25, 1913, the second to the last of the disaster which began on the 23rd and ended on the 26th. It was called The Great Flood not only because of the devastation, but because it was also widespread hitting not only Ohio, but also Indiana, Kentucky, New York and Pennsylvania. I'm not sure what street this is, but two signs show the Livery and Gabe's Restaurant, both of which are at left. There's some people by the restaurant and one vehicle on the right. The card has bot been used and was printed on AZO paper. Will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Chippewa Lake, Ohio Chippewa Lake Park Co. 1929 Very Good
The Tumble Bug was a ride located on the shores of Chippewa Lake in Medina County, Ohio. It's long gone now, but much fun was had there for decades. The card is nice with just a small spot to middle of top edge and a very small light spot of foxing to right margin. There's also a shallow crease to the upper right corner. The Crimson and Gray Medina High School 1916 (Ohio)
9 The Crimson and Gray Medina High School 1916 (Ohio)
Medina,Ohio Median High School 1916 Card cover Very Good Condition
Very clean and handsome yearbook for the Class of 1916 at Medina High School, Medina, Ohio. The previous owner kept track of name changes for the girls as they married, so this is especially helpful for anyone working on Medina genealogy. of course the lower classes are given a nod too, but most of the focus is on the seniors as expected. There are club and sport pictures and info, plus alumni lists (going back to 1876) and great local ads. Really nice graphics and a sense of humor also makes it a fun keepsake. The yearbook measures 7" x 9" and has 111 pages. Very clean and tightly bound. If you are looking for a specific person I am happy to verify that "your person" is in there. Other early Medina yearbooks available. ADDENDUM: I just got a second copy of this yearbook. Very nice condition, but no name changes on this one. Buyer may choose either the name updates or no writing, whichever you like best.

The Medinian 1937 Yearbook (Medina, Ohio)
10 The Medinian 1937 Yearbook (Medina, Ohio)
Medina, Ohio Medina High School 1937 Card Cover Very Good Condition
I've lived in Medina for a lot of years, but never have I seen an older Medina High School yearbook, but now I have one from 1916, this one, and a short stack of others -- all older. So if you're looking for a speicific year let me know and I'll see if I have it. Interestingly, the school colors were gray and red then instead of today's green and white. The yearbook measures 8" x 10-1/2" and has 80 pages. Very tightly bound and nicely kept. Long-time Medinians will recognize MANY old family names, including: Ziegler, Fenn, Kellogg, Claggett, Gerspacher, Oberholtzer, Navatril, and Batchhelder -- and that's just a sample! ADDENDUM: I just got a second copy of the yearbook, so there are now two available.

To Fill your Heart With Joy and Bliss Postcard Little girl with Violets (Floral Missives -- Tuck)
12 To Fill your Heart With Joy and Bliss Postcard Little girl with Violets (Floral Missives -- Tuck)
Raphael Tuck & Sons Very Good
The greeting here is meant for Valentine's Day, but could be sent anytime -- "To fill your heart with joy and bliss, Love's greeting, dear, I send with this." Pretty card was published by the great Raphael Tuck & Son (Art Publishers to their Majesties, the King and Queen) as part of Post Card Series No. 11 entitled "Floral Missives." The card is embossed and the rim of the oval frame surrounding the little flower girl is raised. The card was not sent through the mail, but is penciled on the divided back thus, "To Bertha From Madeline." I know because of other cards from this same collection that the recipient was Bertha Randall, Medina, Ohio, likely around 1910

To My Heart's Elect Cupid Flying on a Key Blue Foral Wreath 1910 Medina, Seville, Ohio
13 To My Heart's Elect Cupid Flying on a Key Blue Foral Wreath 1910 Medina, Seville, Ohio
New York & Berlin International Art Publishing Company 1910 Very good
Very pretty card in pastels and very imaginative too. The card is embossed and clean and attractive. It was sent Feb. 11th, 1910 to Bertha Randall, Medina Ohio from her cousin who lived in next-door Seville. The message, written in pencil, reads, "Dear Cousin, Will be there with bells on. Will get there about 4:10 or 4:20. Mabel." This is an interesting message for two reasons. One is the slangy "be there with bells on", a comment which remains part of the vernacular today. The other reason is the specific times quoted. Mabel must have been taking the interurban from Seville, Ohio to Medina, Ohio

14 Too Tired to Write So Good Night Postcard. Woman in Nightgown Dresser with Mirror
Unknown Unknown circa 1910 Very good
The perfect card for people who don't like to write messages! This one actually has one and it was mailed from Seville, Ohio to Bertha Randall of Medina, Ohio -- not too far! It reads with misspelling, "Are you coming with your Ma when she comes. Ma doesn't feal quite herself this morn. (last sentence unreadable)" The sender may be Nelle Horn, as this name is written in the upper left corner. Card is undated but clearly. given furnishings and clothing on the front, it dates from around 1910. The card is in great conditon save browning to corners from having been kept in an album.

Two pretty Irish colleens grace this green and silver card with its inset of an Irish ruin. The card has three sentiments like the three leaves of the shamrock -- True Irish Hearts, Eric Go Bragh (Ireland forever), and The Shamrock Forever. The card is embossed and the silver section is textural. Beautifully kept! The penciled mesasage at the back is hard to read, but the recipient was Bertha Randall of 229 W. Friendship Street, Medina, Ohio.

Vintage Postcard, Calling Cards, Victorian die-cuts Hands and Flowers
16 Vintage Postcard, Calling Cards, Victorian die-cuts Hands and Flowers
Germany Unknown 1910 Very good
This is such a pretty grouping of a vintage postcard, two calling cards, and two Victorian die-cuts, brought together by a common theme -- hands and flowers. The silvery postcard was sent to Bertha Randall of Medina, Ohio in 1910 from C.W.R. who wrote the flamboyant message upside-down. The two calling cards appear to have been homemade by affixing die-cuts to an already printed card. The larger one is 2"x4" and the smaller 1-3/4"x3-1/2". The die cut design is lifted up to reveal the names -- Mr.& Mrs R.H. Fombaugh and Maggie Fombaugh, respectively. The areas around the designs have toned, but otherwise they're lovely. The loose die-cutes show evidence of glue at back, but only to one end which means they likely decorated a card as well. They measure 2"x3-1/4" and relay two different messages.

One Hundred Years of the First Congregational Church of Weymouth, Ohio 1835-1935, Hopkins, Alicia G.
19 Hopkins, Alicia G. One Hundred Years of the First Congregational Church of Weymouth, Ohio 1835-1935
Weymouth, Ohio Weymouth Church 1935 Card cover Very Fine Condition
This church history is not only lengthy, but is in beautiful condition. It had only one owner and was gently cared for. The booklet is printed in brown ink on heavy cream paper by the Wadsworth Press. It measures 6" x 8" and is bound with its original cording. The pages are not numbered, but I counted 37, plus a tipped-in page inside back cover due to an error that resulted in the omission of a group called the Weymouth Christian Crusaders. Booklet commemorated the church's Centennial.
