A Happy New Year Bird Series Postcard Large Red Bird in Pine Boughs 1910
1 A Happy New Year Bird Series Postcard Large Red Bird in Pine Boughs 1910
Unknown 1910 Very good
The greeting, A Happy New Year, is hiding in the pine boughts in the lower left hand corner, so is easy to miss. But what a handsome card this is! It's gilded and embossed with a bold image superimposed over a small winter vignette. Lovely! This card was sent to a Mrs. C. Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota. The message reads, "Dear friend, Your card received. Thanks. It is a fine ? you have. Wish I could visit you sometime. Let us send cards once in a while. Best wishes for a Happy New Year. M.A." Card shows a little corner wear at the top, but is otherwise clean and nice.

A Happy New Year Girl with Clock Postcard 1906-08 Raphael Tucks & Sons
2 A Happy New Year Girl with Clock Postcard 1906-08 Raphael Tucks & Sons
Raphael Tucks & Sons 1906-08 Very Good
There's much to like about a Tucks postcard and this one is no exception woth its heavy embossing, especially on the clock, and it's decorative border and gilding. The one shows very little wear. The last digit of the postmark date is obscured, but I think it's either a six or an eight. The message just says From Mabel, but it sas written to Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota. I seem to have a lot of Spophie's cards!

3 Birthday Greetings Large Rose on Brown Background. Inset Sailboat Vintage Postcard
Germany Unknown Very good
This one is so striking with its shiny surface and brown and gold background which sets off the small blue inset picture of the boats and the giant pink rose. The other nice feature is the small poem next to the leaves on the left which reads, "May happiness, peace, and love combine on this natal day of thine." The card is German and has a tiny number on the back which reads "ECC Serie 30". It's embossed and was not postally used. Pencilled on the address portion of the divided back is Miss S.C. Nundahl.

Easter Greeting Bonnet Girl in Church Lilies
4 Easter Greeting Bonnet Girl in Church Lilies
Unknown Unknown Very good
A charming old-fashioned scene of a young girl in her Sunday best on Easter morning, perhaps wearing a brand new Easter bonnet. She carries a Bible or prayer book and is surrounded by lilies. The card is addressed to Sophie Nundahl School No. 3, but was never sent. Because we have many of Sophie's cards I know she lived in North Dakota. The penciled message reads, "Thanks for the postal. How are you? I am alright, only got a soar (sic) throat. Mabel."

Embossed German Postcard Merry Xmas Holly Little Girl Red Coat & Muff
5 Embossed German Postcard Merry Xmas Holly Little Girl Red Coat & Muff
F. Beuthien 1909 Very Good
A pretty embossed German postcard wishes A Merry Xmas to You. Red coats and white fur muffs seems to have been all the rage for little girls at Christmas at the turn of the century -- but what a charming image it makes. This card is still crisp and was not postally used. It's addressed to a Miss Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota and the small message on the divided back read "With best wishes for a Merry Christmas From Eddie."

Embossed German Thanksgiving Postcard -- Turkey & Flowers
6 Embossed German Thanksgiving Postcard -- Turkey & Flowers
Germany 1916 Very Good
German postcards of the early 19th century are a thing of beauty, many such as this one, show heavily embossed and colorful designs. This Thanksgiving card is beautifully preserved -- the paper is even crisp -- and will arrive in a plastic sleeve. It was not postally used, but as you can see, it does have a penciled message which reads, "Nov, 29, 1916, Dear Friend, Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving Day, Yours, "A". It was addressed to Miss Sophie Nundahl, Rutland, North Dakota.

German Best Wishes Postcard Bird and Flowers
7 German Best Wishes Postcard Bird and Flowers
Germany 1917 Very good condition
This is really a pretty card with bright colors and virtually no wear, as it was never sent through the mail. The cardstock is exceptionally heavy and the design appears to be pasted on. It's a raised design which gives it an extra dimension. On the back it says Series 1700 Made In Germany. The divided back shows the recipient to be Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota. The message side says "A Happy Birthday Jan. 30, 1917 From E."

German Embossed Postcard Merry Christmas Girl in Red Coat & Muff by Fence
8 German Embossed Postcard Merry Christmas Girl in Red Coat & Muff by Fence
Germany 1908 Very good
All dressed up for Christmas in a red coat, a fur-trimmed hat, and a muff. This card is German and is embossed which is why the penciled message on the back is virtually unreadable. It was sent, however, to Miss Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota. The date on the postage stamp is likewise obscured, but it appears to be 1908. Card will arrive in a plastic sleeve.

Greetings From Chicago, Chicago Art Institute Black and White Postcard
9 Greetings From Chicago, Chicago Art Institute Black and White Postcard
Chicago, Illinois International Postal Card Company Fine
A beauty in black and white sent to our girl (I have MANY of her cards) Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota from Emil who says, "Thank you for the postal you sent me. With best wishes." Maybe Emil was in Chicago to visit the Art Institute which is pictured on the card and says this of itself, "Situated on Michigan Avenue at the head of Adams St. Contains many famous paintings and works of art." The card was not mailed and shows no date, but all the cards I have belonging to Sophie are from 1906 to 1914.

Have A Little Pity On My Poor Heart Valentine Postcard
10 Have A Little Pity On My Poor Heart Valentine Postcard
Unknown Unknown Near Fine
Very, clean, nice card not sent in the mail, but with a message on the divided back which reads "From your friend, Guess Who?" and was addressed to Sophie Nundahl, Perry North Dakota School No. 3. As you can see form the photo, the sender crossed out the stamp box and added some symbols whoch I cannot decipher. An unusual design on this one! No date, but likely in the 19-teens, as we have many cards sent to Sophie Nundahl.

Language of Flowers Postcard Series; Violet, Lily, Sweet Pea, three cards)
11 Language of Flowers Postcard Series; Violet, Lily, Sweet Pea, three cards)
Unknown Very good
This is a charming postcard series titled the Language of Flowers. From it we have three cards numbered 555, 556, and 563. None have been postally used. There is no date on any, but two of the three came from the same recipient (we have many of hers) and her dated cards range all from 1906 to 1914. The floweres are identified in the upper right corner along with their meaning in the language of flowers. These include violet,"faithfulness"; lily, "peace"; and sweet pea, "wish you joy." The lily card is addressed in pencil to Sophie Nundahl, Perry North Dakota with this message, "Haven't any more Easter greetings, so will have to send you this one. Clarence." The violet card just has Sophie's name and the words "from 13-3", which may be March, 1913 which makes sense if it, too, was an Easter card. The lily card was addressed to Emmett Olson, Frazer, Minnesota.

Postcard Best Wishes Four-Leaf Clover
13 Postcard Best Wishes Four-Leaf Clover
Very Good
Pretty in pink and looking over a four-leaf clover -- perfect image for a Best Wishes card. There no date on this one, but I have many cards with the name Sophie Nundahl on them, so it's circa 1913. Divided back, but no message and postally unused. Looks like Sophie just penciled her own name in.

Postcard Devotion and Love International Art Co.(Blue Flowers, Doves)
14 Postcard Devotion and Love International Art Co.(Blue Flowers, Doves)
International Art Publishing Company Circa early 1900's Fine
Very crisp, clean card with sharp corners and no stamps or messages except for a long ago owner's name penciled on back. The name, Sophie Nundahl, helped me date it to the first decade of the 1900's. I have many cards of hers that have postal stamps. This card is a pretty little "rhapsody in the blue". Will arrive in protective sleeve.

15 To My Valentine Postcard Row of Hearts, Girl Holding Flowerpot
Fine
This card is so crisp and new you'd think it WAS new, but it comes from the collection of the original owner, Sophie Nundahl, from whom I have many, many cards, most sent to her, dated from 1906 to 1914. This one was never sent through the mail, but Sophie penciled her name on the address side of the divided back. Card is embossed around the edges, but not in the center. There is no indication of publisher.

16 To Wish You Joy Blue Fan and Flowers Vintage Postcard 1913
1913 Very Good
Flowers, birds, a fan, and a pretty shade of blue make for a lovely vintage postcard. This one was sent to Sophie Nundahl of Rutland, North Dakota by Dora Walton and postmarked Orleans, South Dakota. Dora writes, "Dear Friend, Thank you for the postals. They certainly were some corkers all right. I am still working for Liendeen. We have had an awful wind storm today. We thought everything was going over. I greet everybody. From me, Dora Walton"
