Arms and Armor Resaissance Furniture Italian Majolica From the Edwin M. Berolzheimer Collection 1950
1 Arms and Armor Resaissance Furniture Italian Majolica From the Edwin M. Berolzheimer Collection 1950
New York Parke-Bernet Galleries Inc. 1950 March 9, 1950 Card cover Very good condition
Today's auction catalogs look like magazines in full color. I love them, but I also like these simpler ones. The auction took place on March 9, 1950 due to the death of Edwin M. Berolzheier in 1949. At this point the collection was owned by Mrs. Edwin M. Berol. The catlaog measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/2" with 48 pages and 267 objects including the itemz mentioned.but also Persian and other antique textiles, pottery and bronzes. There are descriptions for each and within them are black and white photogrpahs.

Art Objects and Antiques On Exhibition at Heinz Ocean Pier (Early 1900's)
2 Art Objects and Antiques On Exhibition at Heinz Ocean Pier (Early 1900's)
Atlantic City, New Jersey H.J. Heinz Company Circa Early 1900's card cover Good-plus condition
This is such a charming catalog, published to accompany an antiques and art exhibit on Heinz Ocean Pier in Atlantic City, "the seadside home of the 57 varieties." I'm surprised that there is no date, but I certainly can't find one. The clothes, however, offer a good clue. There were 162 items on display, many of Asian origin, but not all. The guide book measures 4-1/2" x 7-1/2" and has a few black and white photographs throughhout. The one I showed is the only damaged one -- loss of upper corner which does not impinge on the integrity of the image. Two wonderful color scenes inside -- one at the back of the front cover showing the beach and the second inside the back cover showing the Heinz Model Kitchens in Pittsburgh, PA.

For Every Thing A Season: Jewish Ritual Art in Cleveland (2000)
3 For Every Thing A Season: Jewish Ritual Art in Cleveland (2000)
Cleveland, Ohio Cleveland State University 2000 1880834510 / 9781880834510 Card cover Very good condition
This lovely catalog accompanied the exhibition held from September 7 to November 4, 2000 at the Cleveland State University Art Gallery. It's oversized at 9" x 12" with 140 pages including a glossary and a selective bibliography. Every page is on quality coated paper and most photographs are in full color. The catalog of the exhibition is of course the gem, but there are three essays before it which are well done. They are: Chronicle of an Exhibition by John Hunter; The Study of Jewish Ritual Objects by Claudia Z. Fechter who also wrote Ritual Arts in Cleveland. Catalog is clean with no spine crease and no names or writing. Ships in U.S. for $2 media mail.

Objects For Preparing Food (Exhibition Catalog 1973)
4 Objects For Preparing Food (Exhibition Catalog 1973)
Washington, D.C. Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution 1973 soft cover Very Good
Fabulous art catalog celebrating the art of the lowly, as in the utensils and vessels used by cooks. If you know your way around the kitchen, or wish you did, you will love these oversized pages filled with black and white photos of many, many items -- some of which you may not even recognize. The book is huge at 12"x12-1/2" and was published to accompany an exhibit at the Renwick Gallery which ran from Feb. 9, 1973 to April 29, 1973. The New York Museum of Contemporary Crafts also played a role in making it happen.

Broken Wings: Donald Lipski At Grumann March 18 -- April 10, 1987, Davis, Carol Becker (curator)
6 Davis, Carol Becker (curator) Broken Wings: Donald Lipski At Grumann March 18 -- April 10, 1987
Brookfield, New York Hillwood Art Gallery 1987 First edition Card cover Very good condition
Nice art catalog, the front cover of which has a large cut-out through which the blue shards of glass can be seen. Catalog measures 8-3/4" x 11-1/4" with 48 pages and is clean and tightly bound. No names or writing and only fault is a crease to lower front cover. The Grumann mentioned in the title is the name of a salvage yard in Bethpage, New York where he began his quest for "stuff", found objects, only BIG ones. In a lengthy interview Lipski talks about his art and the making of it. There are many black and white pictures of Lipski, plus the salvage and the art itself. The catalog sold out following the end of the exhibit and has not been reprinted.

7 Faber, Ursula A.: Breyer, Mrs. Henry W. Sr. Japanese and Chinese Art Belonging to Estate of the Late Ursula A. Faber, 1963 ) Parke-Bernet
New York Parke-Bernet Galleries Inc. 1963 Soft cover Very good condition
I love these old auction catalogs. This one includes the main collections as listed above, plus some from minor collectors. The catalog measures 7-1/2" x 10-1/2" and has 89 pages showing 414 lots. Photographs were not as plentiful as today, but there are black and white photos which display several items in one picture. There are no names or writing -- I love it when they pencil in the realized prices, but no luck here. What I can't get over though is the fact that the yapped edges are ALL THERE. The overhang causes small tears and eventually the owner trims them. I repaired two tiny tears and one soft corner to upper front using archival tape on the reverse side. Among the items are wood and bronze sculptures, early dynastic bronzes, pottery and porcelain, paintings, prints, screens, decorative objects, furniture and lamps.

The Animal Image.Contemporary Objects and the Beast (1981, Monroe, Michael W.
10 Monroe, Michael W. The Animal Image.Contemporary Objects and the Beast (1981
Washignton D.C. Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of Art (Smithsonian Press) 1981 Card cover Very Good
Very nice, clean, tightly bound card catalog with just a few small defects to back cover. Mostly it's a few very small rubbed areas and one small crease which became a closed tear. It feels to me that something, perhaps white glue, is what closed it. The catalog is pristine and and has wonderful photography in both color and black and white. Paper is nicely coated and the text is ample throughout. Very unique works, most of which are three-dimensional. Booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11-1/12" and has 48 pages. Works are from numerous artists. 106 objects. One of the most surprising artists was Collette who exhibited a cloissone on fine silver with 24K enamel wire and panels joined by copper electroforming.

A Folsom Complex Preliminary Report on Investigations at the Lindenmeier Site in Northern Colorado 1935, Roberts, Frank H.H. Jr.
11 Roberts, Frank H.H. Jr. A Folsom Complex Preliminary Report on Investigations at the Lindenmeier Site in Northern Colorado 1935
Washington D.C. The Smithsonian Institute 1935 soft cover Very good
Except for a bit of wear to edges at front cover this booklet is in very clean and tightly bound condition. The reason it's showing wear is the yapped edges which create an overhang which protects the pages, but very often develops wear itself. This one has not been trimmed. The booklet includes 16 black and white plates. Focus is on the Lindenmeir site and its archaeological treasures -- points, scrapers, bevel-edge tools, gravers, knives, blades and choppers, miscellaneous objects, and the identification of bones. Booklet measures 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" with 35 pages of text plus plates.

David Lachapelle Land Scape, Shana Nys Dambrot; Captain Paul Watson
12 Shana Nys Dambrot; Captain Paul Watson David Lachapelle Land Scape
London Robilant & Voena Gallery 2014 Cad cover Book Fine Jacket Fine David LaChapelle
This is the most stunning exhbit catalog I've seen ina long time. The colors are like neon and what seems to be paintings are not. The artist creates three dimensional landscapes using found objects. It's fun to find them, so I'm just goign to tell three that I saw -- hair curlers, cans, and drink straws. The rest is up to you! After he creates his scapes LaChapelle uses a camera as the photographer he is to turn then into gorgeous photogrphs. All works are in full color and printd on substantial paper. The catalog also has two essays -- "Fables of Peak Everything" and "The Passion of David LaChapelle." The catalog was created for the exhibit at Robilant & Voena Gallery from May 16 to June 18, 2014.
