Frank Lloyd Wright A Modern Aesthetic June 6 to July 15, 1986 (The Darwin D. Martin House)
2 Frank Lloyd Wright A Modern Aesthetic June 6 to July 15, 1986 (The Darwin D. Martin House)
Chicago, Illinois Struve Gallery 1986 card cover Very Good Condition
This is a beautiful catalog in very good condition. It should, however, have a white paper dustwrapper printed with the exact design on the cover of the booklet itself. It's still very attractive with no defect of note. The Darwin D. Marvin house was built in Buffalo, New York in 1903-1904 and was considered the house that truly showed Wright's genius. Wright was friends with the owners until the death of Darwin Martin in 1935. Until then he designed furniture, lighting fixtures and even dresses for Mrs. Martin. He also consulted on the couple's collection of Japanese prints and ceramics. This booklet measures 8" x 11" and is illustrated handsomely with photos of the stained glass windows and the furniture.

Linen Postcard Folkerth's Motel & Restaurant New York State
3 Linen Postcard Folkerth's Motel & Restaurant New York State
Boston, Massachusetts Tichnor Brothers Unknown Fine
This is an unused linen postcard in fine condition. There's no date, but I suspect it's from the 50's. The caption on the back says it was located on U.S. Route 20 between Thruway Exit 48 & 49, two miles east of Alden NY and 25 miles east of Buffalo. This was one of the many mom and pop motels available during the period. The amenities included radio, TV, central heat (odd that that would even be mentioned in upstate New York!), and Beauty Rest mattresses. The owners were Mr. & Mrs. George C. Folkerth.

Showmen's Trade Review April 30, 1955 (Daddy Long Legs)
4 Showmen's Trade Review April 30, 1955 (Daddy Long Legs)
New York Charles E. "Chick" Lewis 1955 Vol. 62, No. 19 soft cover Very good
Very nice, clean trade magazine targeted at movie theater owners. All the ads and short articles are full of info on the state of the movie experience halfway through the 1950s. The big movie of this issue was definitely Daddy Long Legs, which starred Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron based the novel by Jean Webster who wrote it in 1912. The magazine measures 9" by slightly over 12". The ads of course are for adding comfort and modernity to the movie theater. Coca Cola ad on the back cover encourages its sale in the lobby.

5 Sotheby's Antique and Classic Automobiles from the Collection of the Frederick C. Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum (1990)
New York Sotheby's March 31, 1990 Card cover Very good Condition
It's not every day I find a car auction catalog, which is why this one's only the second one on here. This one was focused on the cars from the collection of the Frederick C. Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum of the Western Reserve Historical Society together with property of various owners. There were 69 cars, each pictured in full color and printed on quality glossy paper with much description and history. The bidding page was not used and there is a booklet laid in titled "Sotheby's At Hendon Royal Air Force Museum.

The New Testament Translated out of the Greek 1869 (Ephemera Laid-in)
6 The New Testament Translated out of the Greek 1869 (Ephemera Laid-in)
New York American Bible Society 1869 Hard Cover Good Condition
Small New Testament translated from the Greek to English. Measures a diminutive 3" across by 4-3/4" tall. The black boards are heavily embossed both front and back and retain the original clasp which still works nicely. I find these litle Bibles and prayer books very touching, as many, like this one, have names and small extras inside. This one has had a couple owners. On the front pastedown a May R. Price wrote some notes to herself so she could find her favorite verses. Across from that is the name Rosie P. Coits from Ohio dated 1871, a present from Mother. Inside are two small comforting lines from poems elsewhere, the celluloid bookmark which lists the 10 Commndments and a swatch of blue plaid taffeta for a new dress perhaps. The fabric is very mcuh apropos for the period.

The Violin and Its Techniques in the 18th Century. A Problem of Rythmn in Baroque Music, Boyden, David D.; Babitz, Sol
7 Boyden, David D.; Babitz, Sol The Violin and Its Techniques in the 18th Century. A Problem of Rythmn in Baroque Music
Urbana, Illinois American String Teachers Association Year Unknown Reprint Card cover Good
I had one of these years ago, so I recognized the partial front cover on this repaired booklet. It must have fallen apart so someone used what was viable of the front cover and made a sturdy new cover. I thought it was likely to have been a librarian, but there are no stamps showing any previous owners. The booklet is quite good, a reprint of two articles from The Music Quarterly Magazine. The text is tight and clean with just a couple points off a few pages at front. Booklet is illustrated nicely.

Slippery Rock, PA Historical Committee of the One Hundredth Anniversary 1925 Card cover Good condition
Very nice, clean book showing a few faults, none of which are really egregious. The front cover shows a two inch vertical tear at hinge which was repaired by me with non-browning archival tape on both sides. There is also a bit of browning and a crease at bottom front corner.I stablized it with archival tape on the reverse side. The back cover is pristine. Former owners' names written lightly on front free endpaper and dots of foxing to bottom corner of one page only. The rest are bright and clean. Book measures 7-1/2"x10-3/4" and is not often seen. The paper its printed on is quite lovely, as is the design. Illustrated with many historical photographs to accompany an ample text. Published in tandem with the town's Centennial celebration. 117 pages with many historic photos.

Yorktown, As I Remember (Virginia, 1981), O'Hara. Lucy Hudgins
11 O'Hara. Lucy Hudgins Yorktown, As I Remember (Virginia, 1981)
Verona, Virginia McClure 1981 Presumed first edition hard cover Fine condition Fine dustjacket
This is a booklet in hard cover containing 78 pages including the index. It's clean and bright with no bumps, no names or writing, and no tears or chips to jacket. The booklet measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/4" and is very clean and nice. The dustjacket is protected by brand new mylar cover. The book is a lovely reminiscence of life in Yorktown, Virginia begining at the turn of the century of which there are many large, full page black and white photographs. Though the booklet's true stories and memories are interesting, the genealogical facet would be especially important to O'Haras, Hudgins, and Powells, especially in Virginia. Her father was Theophilus Trimyer Hudgins and her mother Malvina Powell Hudgins. Her husband was Leslie Richard O'Hara. Lucy also looks back at her ancestors and tells their stories, including the fact that they were slave owners. For the right person this is gem.
