1993 National Fall Shoot September 11-19 (Walter Cline Range Friendship, Indiana)
1 1993 National Fall Shoot September 11-19 (Walter Cline Range Friendship, Indiana)
Friednship, Indiana National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association 1993 soft cover Very good condition
Very nice program which includes the winners from the various matches. The event is held by the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association located in tiny Friendship, Indiana. These matches drew in a lot of people, both bystanders and competitors. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 39 pages. It's very clean and somehow managed not to get folded in half. If you were there and lost yours here's a chance to get a replacement. I've never seen these out in the wild before this one!

CVA Mountain Rifle & Kit Promotion Materials (1977)
2 CVA Mountain Rifle & Kit Promotion Materials (1977)
Haddam, Connecticut Connecticut Valley Arms Inc. 1977/78 Fine condition
Wow! This is a really nice find. Inside this envelope are many pristine, unused advertising products. The envelope was never mailed which is likely why everything inside is so perfect. The contents include the following: a letter to the dealer; a 1978 catalog replete with price sheet; a huge wall or window banner measuring 12" x 52"; and a counter card (10-1/2" x 14") affixed with a pad of tear-off coupons. None were used AND we have a second unused pad as well.

Description of the Rules for the Management of the Springfield Rifle Carbine and Army Revolvers Calibre .45
3 Description of the Rules for the Management of the Springfield Rifle Carbine and Army Revolvers Calibre .45
Unknown circa 1960 Reprint soft cover Very good
Though there is no reprint publisher named and the date shows as 1874, this booklet is far too new for this to be true. I think this is the Ray Riling reproduction from 1960. I had one once and, as I recall, it looked like this. The booklet was originally published in 1874 by the National Armory of Springfield, Mass. The pages are constructed from quality coated paper, including the fold-out diagram at the back. The booklet measures 6"x9-1/2" and has 51 illustrated pages. There is much information here. Very clean with sunning to spine only. former owner's large pictorial bookplate is on the back of the front cover.

Goex Black Rifle Powder 80th Anniversary Poster
4 Goex Black Rifle Powder 80th Anniversary Poster
Moosic, Pemmsylvania Goex Inc. Very good condition
It's amazing how a simple configuration of gun powder tins and a muzzle-loading rifle above them can be so stunning, but stunning it is. The colors are warm and inviting and the various labels catch the eye.The poster measures 17" x 22", a nice size for framing which doesn't require a lot of wall space. There's no date, though I did try to find one with no luck. I bought the poster rolled which will make it easy to ship and can later be flattened at a frame shop. I have a book press, but it's not big enough or I would do it. Altogether a handsome scene!

National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association South Eastern Rendezvous 1982 (with Medallion)
6 National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association South Eastern Rendezvous 1982 (with Medallion)
Friendship, Indiana N.M.L.R.A. 1982 Soft cover Good condition
Crisp and clean as new with the keepsake medallion in it's original bag stapled to front corner. NMLRA is still conducting target shooting competitions using single bullet muzzleloaders. The competition is about sport of course, but it's also an endeavor for competitors to arrive in historical garb. The program measures 5-1/2" x 8-3/4"and has 16 pages. The only defect is the fate of many programs of all kinds -- a vertical fold right now the center. It's unusual to find the token.

Ruger Sporting Firearms Catalog (1984)
7 Ruger Sporting Firearms Catalog (1984)
Southport, Connecticut Sturn, Ruger & Company Inc. circa 1984 Soft cover Very good condition
There is no date in this catalog that I can find. Very often though there isnt a date by design so that the catalog can remain in action longer. A little research indicated however indicated that this was published around 1984. It's very nice and clean with just one fault -- a tiny puncture on the front cover which I almost missed. To keep it small I put a tiny piece of archival tape over it from the reverse side. The catalog measures 8-1/2" x 11 and has 27 pages. Among the types are M-77 Bolt-Action Rifle; No. 1 Single-shot Rifle; No. 1 Light Sporter; Mini-14 Semi Automatic Rifles; Over and Under Shotguns; New 77/22 Rimfore Rifle; Automatic Pistols; New Model Single-Actions; New Model Super Blackhawk and much more.

Utica, New York Savage Arms Corporation 1938 Catalog No. 72 soft cover Good-plus
The older gun catalogs are hard to find. This one is replete with its matching price list. The most expensive item on it is the Model 99-K Takedown at $85. The least expensive is the Model 3 Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle with peep sights at $5.65. The catalog measures 7-1/2" by 9-1/4" and has 23 pages, each with photos in black and white. Other than a small bit of wear to bottom front edge of cover, this is a very nice collectible.

The American Rifleman Magazine July 1931 (Portsmouth, Ohio First Muzzle-loading Matches)
10 The American Rifleman Magazine July 1931 (Portsmouth, Ohio First Muzzle-loading Matches)
Washington D.C. National Rifle Association 1931 Vol. LXXIX, No.7 soft cover Good-plus
Magazine has been cleaned by me and a short area at top of spine has been repaired, also by me, with almost invisible archival tape to keep it from worsening. There is still some soil to cover, but overall this is a nice, tightly bound piece. It's a large one too measuring 9"x12". The big story to me was the launch of the first muzzleloading shooting matches at Portsmouth, Ohio, an event which also launched the rebirth of shooting black powder firearms as a sport. Other topics include woodchuck hunting, the Super-X. cartridges, the new Bausch & Lomb Spottong Scope, and much more. 52 pages

The Official Program American and Canadian Sportsmen's Show Cleveland Public Auditorium 1939
11 The Official Program American and Canadian Sportsmen's Show Cleveland Public Auditorium 1939
Unknown location of publisher Expositions Inc. 1939 Printed on cardstock Very Good condition
The Cleveland Sportsmen Show has been around a long time -- since 1927. The first time around it filled Public Auditorium for just three years due to the Great Depression. Seven years went by and finally in 1937 the doors opened again. This guide measures 4-1/2" x 11-1/4" and opens to four panels which measure 17-3/4" across. The 1939 show opened April 15th and closed April 23rd. What's interesting is unusual competitions which included log-rolling, canoe tilting, wood chopping and cross-cut-sawing. They also had casting tricks and demonstrations, game retrieving, marksmanship, deep-sea fishing and archery. Special events included Native American songs and dances, a sporting dog exhibit, field dog training, trap-shooting, a public rifle range and a public archery range. Guide has information on all panels and on both sides. Very nice! Fairly scarce.

The American Rifleman Magazine June,1931 (Elmer Keith), Keith,Elmer
18 Keith,Elmer The American Rifleman Magazine June,1931 (Elmer Keith)
Washington D.C. The National Rifle Association 1931 Vol. LXXIX No.6 soft cover Good-plus
Oversized magazine which is clean as a whistle inside. The only real fault is two small nicks and some mild soil to bottom edge of front cover. I cleaned it with a document pad, but didn't dare use book cleaner on the ink. The magazine has advertising and several articles which include one by the famous gun writer, Elmer Keith, who wrote about the new 225-grain Western tool and copper bullet and new Noske scope. Other articles are titled: A Near Modern Big Bertha; Hunting in the Yukon; Bedding Rifles in Stocks; Hint for the Making and Uses of Bullet Swages; and Pistol Regulation, Its Principles and History. Magazine measures 9"x12" and has 52 pages.

Small Bore Rifle Hand Book 1928, Lieut. Colonel Tonsend Whelen
19 Lieut. Colonel Tonsend Whelen Small Bore Rifle Hand Book 1928
New York Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute 1928 first Edition Crd cover Good-plus
These older booklets are getting hard to find, so when this one popped up I took the offer. The booklet is overall nice, and tightly bound. It measures 6" x 9" and has 38 pages with a dense text and many black and white pohotographs throughout. The text covers equipment, markmanship, ranges and rifle clubs. The defects are these: two creases to the lower front corner which I "bandaged" with archival tape on the inside to keep it from snapping off and a name and address on the back cover. There is is also some faint penciling there, but it's very light.
