1 "The Incline Smile" Mt. Manitou Scenic Incline Car Color Postcard (Colorado)
Unknown 1910 Good
Love this one! A full color view of an early tourist ride in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The "incline car", as they called it, was built in 1907 to support the construction of a hydroelectric plant and its waterline. When that was done a Dr. Brumbach bought it as a tourist attraction. It was a steep 16 minute ride through the glories of the Colorado mountains. Sadly, it had to be abandoned after a rock slide in 1990. The card is clean and nice, but does show tiny spote of light edge wear and a small chip from the tip of the lower corner. The divided back has this message, "I am still in Colorado Springs. E.R." It was sent to Miss Clara Bergman, Concordia, Missouri. The card will arrive in a plastic sleeve

2 "There's A Reason"; A Journey Through the Factories That Make Postum, Grape Nuts and Post Toasties (post-1914)
Battle Creek, Michigan Postum Cereal Company After 1914 Hard Cover Good-plus No Dustjacket as issued
This is an amazing little book published after the death of C.W. Post, the founder of the Postum Cereal Company which produced Grape Nuts and Post Toasties as well as the coffee substitute, Postum. From 1905 until his death in 1914 C.W. sued, was sued, and gained a reputation as a charlatan who worked overtime making bogus health claims against caffeine. He also came up with what was called a mysterious slogan for his breakfast beverage "There's a reason ...", thus the title of the book. Great pictures abound in here -- the ones at the front in color show such things at Post's private office. Most photos, however, are of the plant and people at work making the products with help from mighty machinery. Book measures 7-1/2" x 9" and has 47 pages. It's tightly bound with clean pages and no writing. Faults are exterior -- a few little stains and a few tiny spots of edge wear to the green border around the cover picture. Overall quite good. It's puffery of course, but fun puffery!

24 Success Articles From American Preservation Magazines
4 24 Success Articles From American Preservation Magazines
U.S.A. American Preservation Unknown date Unknown edition Disbound Articles Very Good Condition
I found these disbound articles in a box of Architectual Review Magazines which I bought at auction. I almost tossed them out until I realized how worthy they are. Each of the 24 focuses on a particular area within a state located anywhere in the country. They all derived from American Preservation magazine, so the color photographs are stunning. Each article is pretty long with many images. I wish I had more room to show them. Areas are these: New Orleans Lower Garden District; Providence, Rhode Island; Salem Massachusetts; Eutaw, Alabama's Greek Revival Architecture; Galveston, Texas; Mizner's Eden Palm Beach's Flamboyant Architecture; Brownsville, Texas; Waterford, Virginia; Helena, Montana; Columbus, Georgia; Madison, Indiana; Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Key West, Florida; Jacksonville, Oregon; Mt. Auburn in Cincinnati, Ohio; Manchester area of Pittsburgh; Savannah, Georgia; Powelton Village, Philadelphia; Saratoga Springs, New York; Crested Butte in the Rocky Mts.; Detroit's Woodward East; Oakland cemetery; Galena, Illinois and Bay View, A Summer Resort in Michigan. All are clean and stapled. Will still ship for $2 media in the U.S. as always.

25th Independence Day Dance North American Association of Venezuela 1966 (program)
5 25th Independence Day Dance North American Association of Venezuela 1966 (program)
The North American Association of Venezuela 1966 soft cover Good
Surprisingly scarce program published in honor of the 25th Independence Day Dance hosted by the North American Association of Venezuela. Clearly, this was a big event, as the ads in the program are largely national -- Chrysler has the back cover and Helena Rubenstein cosmetics has the flip side. Others inside include Ponds, Sears, Chevrolet, Elizabeth Arden and many more. The program is large at 9"x12" and has much information about the event itself, the liberation of Venezuela, and the ties that bind Venezuela to the United States. Illustrated with black and white photographs. The program is clean and tightly bound, but does show light foxing to outer edge of front cover and also at first two pages. Otherwise very nice. Slight tobacco scent.

The card has a divided back and is partially addressed, but was never sent. It appears to be from the early 1900's. The recipient was supposed to have been Mrs. Ambrose Balmat and the message reads, "A Merry Christmas to you all from your brother Louie." This one's a beauty!

Alice (1992 Opera)
8 Alice (1992 Opera)
Hamburg, Germany Thalia Theatre 1992 soft cover Good-plus
An uncommon item, published in tandem with the opening of the dark opera, Alice, which is based on Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The lyrics probe not the story as much as how it pertains to its author. Was not intended for children. Inside front cover (see photo two) is a small drawing signed by its artist. I can't decipher the first namel, but I do believe the last name is Zinn. I immediately thought of David Zinn who does have a history with the Thalia Theatre, but I can't say for sure that this is right. Research shows no account of him having anything to do with the set design for this show. Program is written in both German and English, primarily German, and is illustrated with both black and white photos and drawings plus color plates. Measures 8"x10-1/2" and has 64 pages plus a laid-in insert with info on the songs. Clean and tightly bound with no names or writing, but does show scratches to back cover and a small bit of edge wear, also at back.

Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine (September 1984 Jackie Collins. David Letterman, Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, Barbara Walters)
12 Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine (September 1984 Jackie Collins. David Letterman, Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, Barbara Walters)
Interview Enterprises Inc. 1984 Volume XIV No. 9 soft cover Good-plus
Andy Warhols' magazines are so much fun to read. I love when some come my way and right now I have several. This one features Joan Collins, but there's also interviews with many celebrities with an emphasis on TV personalities including David Letterman, Tom Brakow, Peter Jennings and Barbara Walters. Huge magazine -- measures 11"x17". The text is clean as is the cover, though spine area and back cover do show some browning. There were also a few small tears at top and a circular tear at bottom. Both were repaired by me with archival tape. The lower one still suffers from a small paper loss. Will ship in U.S. for $2. WORLDWIDE ORDERS WELCOME, but due to size additional postage will be necessary. Please contact us with destination for an exact quote. Magazine is thicker than normal with 224 pages. Price lowered due to condition.

14 Art Dubai March 18-21, 2015
Dubai Madinat Jumeirah 2015 Soft cover Very good condition
Very nice publication which is printed completely in two colors -- orange and white. The book is clean and tightly bound, but there is some wrinkling and a few glued tears to the spine. Otherwise it's crisp and clean. The book measures 8-1/4" x 11-1/2" and has 230 pages to showcase the largest group of Arab artists in the world. There are photographs and art on the edges of the pages, but the book primarily explains the festival and its prize winners. It even has color wheels which show the activity of Facebook and Twitter fans. Very nice -- even the exterior page edges are light orange.

15 Atlas de Columbia; Una Contribucione al Majer Conocimiento de Nuestro Pais
Columbia Superarmericana Editions Colina 1960's soft cover Very good
Very clean, crisp book measuring 5"x"7". Only fault is a faint shadow to front cover from a price sticker. There is no date, but research indicates that these were published in the 1960's. Language is SPANISH, but there is no real text -- just lists and charts of statistics, all of which show places and numbers only, so they are easily read by English speaking readers. The maps are located at the front, 44 in all -- and all in full color.

B&O Railroad Miniature Metal Sign and Three B&O Color Postcards
16 B&O Railroad Miniature Metal Sign and Three B&O Color Postcards
Earlton, New York; Washington Audio-Visual Designs & Washington Chapter NRHS 1967 All In fine Condition
This is a unique offering -- a small 3" diameter metal sign for the B&O Railroad, offered in the 1950's as a premium for Post cereals. The collector who owned it paired it with three color postcards, one of which is dated 1967. None have been used or written on and all are in excellent condition. The dated one was published by Washington Chapter NRHS and shows a President Class 4-6-2 pulling the B&O's Ambassador past Ivy City as it leaves Union Station Washington, D.C. Dec. 16, 1951. The other cards show "The Cincinnatian" train No 53 westbound from Toledo, Ohio July, 1956 and the B&O Mikado standing at rest during the final steam passenger run May, 1958 from Cleveland to Halloway, Ohio. We have several more pairings of metal signs and cards.

Billy Rose's Aquacade New York World's Fair 1940
17 Billy Rose's Aquacade New York World's Fair 1940
The Gruen Watch Co. 1940 soft cover
Wow -- what a graphic! I'd have picked it up just for that, but it's also a souvenir from the 1940 World's Fair. Billy Rose's Aquacade was a glamorous show featuring gorgeous people, both men and women -- sort of a Ziegfield follies in water, though he referred to it as a water ballet. The funny part is that Rose endorsed his ads. The one I like best says (in Rose's own words), "Just taste one -- you'll see why I'm proud to have SPAMWICHES served at the Aquacade." Now THAT's what you'd call glam for sure! :-) Measuras 9"x12" and has 32 pages and three full page color ads -- Coke, Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, and Chesterfield cigarettes.

20 Centenary St. Stephen's Parish 1843-1943 (Philadelphia)
Phildelphia, PA St. Stephen's Church 1943 soft cover Good
Clean tightly bound centenary celebration keepsake. Brown wraps feel very supple and are marred only by small tears to the yapped edges which is very common due to the fact that the edges extend beyond the text. Corners also show flat creasing, but have been strengthened by me at back with mending tissue to keep them from snapping off (see photo). There are no names or writing. Printed on quality coated paper and illustrated profusely throughout with black and white photographs. Also includes an extensive text. Not commonly found. Measures 8"x11" and has 192 pages.
