Route From Liverpool to Great Salt Lake Valley Illustrated Prospectus (1997)
1 Route From Liverpool to Great Salt Lake Valley Illustrated Prospectus (1997)
Bedford, Massachusetts Applewood Books 1997 soft cover Very Good Condition
This handsome item was a preview of the book to come. It's oversized at 9-1/4" x 12" and has nine counted pages including four containing sample pages of text and a black and white steel engraving by Frederick Piercy printed on the reverse side (recto) of the back cover. The image is protected by a crisp clean tissue guard. The idea was to advertise the book, but now it serves as an interesting augmentation to the book itself as well as a commemoration of the sesquicentennial of the Mormon Pioneer Trail.

Shipping Scene Frank Brangwyn Watercolor Print (1920's)
2 Shipping Scene Frank Brangwyn Watercolor Print (1920's)
England Unknown circa 1920's Very Good
Beautiful watercolor print with incredible detail and beautiful muted colors I purchased it from a longtime dealer who saved plates from damaged books. I had a hard time figuring out who the artist was though because he only printed the name on one print! But the style is so unique it was easy to see that the others were also British artist, Frank Brangwyn's, work. The print is tipped-in on the paper rather than being printed on it and measures in its entirety 9-1/2"x11-1/2". The image size is 6-3/4"x9". Plate is clean on both sides and ready to frame, though there is residue from the tissue guard that once rested against the top edge. It could easily framed without it showing.

9 Murtha, Gary C. Japanese Swordguard Artists (1982)
Kansas City, Missouri R&M Enterprises 1982 Card cover Like New
Very clean, handsome booklet of 80 pages, pristine inside and out. I bought this from the estate of a collector who kept his books and paper with great care. This one is definitely geared to the sword collector, as the vast amount of information here is about the various schools of design and the artists themselves. At the back you will find tsuba plates and their descriptions. Booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11-1/2 and has no names or writing. Not often seen.

11 Walker, John, Brisben (editor) The Cosmopolitan Magazine May, 1903 (Rose Cecil O'Neill,Henry Seton Merriman
The Cosmopolitan Magazine Company 1903 Vol. XXXV, Number 1 soft cover Very Good Condition
An amazingly nice issue of a popular magazine at the turn of the 20th century. No only is it clean and tightly bound, but it also retains its yapped edges and has the most pristine spine I have ever seen on a century old magazine. The main article is a story about the British Parcel Post and how it ran, but there are other more fetching topics such as "The Power and Beauty of Woman's Eyes", "Platonic Friendship" and "Society's Amateur Circuses." Plus there's pieces on the captains of industry of the day, an idea for equitable taxation and the teaching profession's hardships and rewards. The two most well-known contributions are illustrator Rose Cecil O'Neill, she of kewpie doll fame and Henry Seton Merriman who has a story here titled "Barlasch of the Guard." Magazine measures 6-3/4" x 9-1/2" and has 117 ages, plus many interesting ads at back.
