Southern Populism and Black Labor (1975), Copeland, Vince
141 Copeland, Vince Southern Populism and Black Labor (1975)
New York World View Publishers 1975 Second printing Card cover
The subtitle of this booklet explains in just a few words what to expect -- "Answers Wallace and Other Racists Who Make False Claim To the Populist Image." George Wallace is the populist in this story when he ran for president. The last sentence in the last paragraph on the back of the booklet is this: "Southern Populism and Black Labor is not only a study of a near forgotten chapter in American history, but a warning to American workers never to trust the demagogy of racist politicans, no matter how slyly they try to mask their real intentions." The booklet measures 5-1/4" x 8" and has 62 pages, plus a list of other political booklets.

From the Trenches to Classrooms: Continuing Education at Case Western Reserve University and the Evolution of ACE, Coppedge, Paula
142 Coppedge, Paula From the Trenches to Classrooms: Continuing Education at Case Western Reserve University and the Evolution of ACE
Solon, Ohio Eagle Creek Press 2006 0975936611 / 9780975936610 Presumed First Card cover Very good condition
Very nice clean booklet of 81 pages which measure 7" x 10" and are illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. The text begins with the return of the doughboys from WWI; Newton D. Baker's Baby (the college);Crisis; Postwar Renaissance; Confusion; More Crisis; the Lecture Series and more. The best part to me is the history of the annual Case book sale. I have been going to it for 20 years and many items both on this site and my book site came from the huge Case sale. I only missed the opening day once and that because I tore my rotor cuff the day before, but I was there on half price day with one arm in a sling and a husband who piled books, packed books, checked out books and hauled boxes of books to the car! book has no names or writing and is clean and tightly bound.

As Decade By Decade 1815-2015 Ashland, Ohio, Courtney Day, Chris Weldinger, Dan Kubacki et al.
144 Courtney Day, Chris Weldinger, Dan Kubacki et al. As Decade By Decade 1815-2015 Ashland, Ohio
Ashland, Ohio Ashland Times Gazette 2015 Soft cover Very Good
Ashland, Ohio is locoated in Wayne County and is the home of Ashland College. The booklet is oversized at 10-1/2" square and has 47 pages replete with black and white photographs throughoui and a few color ones, especially for the notable fires. The story of Ashland is told decade by decade all the way from 1815 to 2015. I learned something new as soon as I opened the booklet at random. Did you know that parts of the movie, Shawshank Redemption, were filmed in Ashland? Here's something else to know. I just added a memorial for John Ashbrook, a Congressman who died in the 80's and what did I see here but a photo of the Memorial for Rep. John Ashbrook.

Reform or Revolution (Daniel De Leon, Socialist Labor Party 1919), De Leon, Daniel
147 De Leon, Daniel Reform or Revolution (Daniel De Leon, Socialist Labor Party 1919)
New York City Socialist Labor Party 1919 soft cover Good
The previous owner bought this as seen above. It is a 32 page speech given on January 26, 1896 under the auspices of the People's Union at Well's Memorial Hall, Boston by its author. The odd part is that it appears to be a pamphlet, but it's disbound and shows no signs of staples or sewing on the left margins. All pages are present, though there is no "back cover" if ever there were one. The speech is reprinted here in 1919. Note, however, that there is a stamp to the left hand margin of the first page (see photo) which reads "C.D. Transfer Mar. 17, 1947". The pages are very clean with light toning, though the cover shows soil at margins even after cleaning with a document pad. A fiery speech by De Leon who dedicated his life to the working man.

Norwalk, Connecticut Brundy Library 1967 Publication No. 24 Card cover Good condition
A long-lost letter from Galileo about a magnetic clock is the inspiration for this scholarly, but accessible, booklet. it's an interesting look in the brain of a brilliant scientist in his own words. The letter is reproduced in the text. There are also wonderful drawings throughout. As you can see, something was once on top of the booklet, but only a small section was open and was sunned. There is also a small bit of foxing -- one spot at the very top of every page. the booklet measures 8" x 10-1/2" and has 55 pages on heavy cream colored paper.

The Conquest: Lucas County Historical Series Volume I (Ohio 1948), Downes, Randolph C.
151 Downes, Randolph C. The Conquest: Lucas County Historical Series Volume I (Ohio 1948)
Toledo, Ohio The Historical Society of Northwestern, Ohio 1948 Card cover Very Good
Pages are uniformly toned and there is some light wear to lower front edge of cover, but overall booklet is very clean and attractive. Each title in the series was about a different topic, so this one is complete as is. I was surprised to read that the illustrations were rendered by high school students from Toledo, Ohio, as they are quite good. Text covers the founding of the area, the various cultures which settled it, Native Americans, and the wars. Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 95 pages including index.

The Vermonter A State Magazine September, 1902 (Modern St. Albans), Forbes, Charles S.
158 Forbes, Charles S. The Vermonter A State Magazine September, 1902 (Modern St. Albans)
St Albans, Vermont Charles S. Forbes 1902 Septembernumber soft cover Very good condition
I love this magazine -- very few provide a focus and stick with it from page one to done. This one is all about the city of St. Albans, Vermont. The reason for this choice is the fact that 1902 was the year that St. Albans went from the status of town (incorporated in 1859) to full-sized city. There's lots of pictures in these 70 pages, plus great ads for St. Albans products and services. The city is located near the Canadian border. The long article offers much history and information about its evolution. The magazine measures 7"x 10" and is clean and tightly bound. Only fault is a small bit of toning to margins of front cover.
