Beyond Chaos Black History and the Search for the New Land (1970), Harding, Vincent
181 Harding, Vincent Beyond Chaos Black History and the Search for the New Land (1970)
Atlanta, Georgia Institute of the Black World 1970 August, 1970, Black Paper No. 2 Card cover Fine condition
Crisp, clean booklet which is not often seen. The only defect is a black line through the printed price at the reserve side of both covers. The cover design is quite nice as are the small images in the text. The booklet measures 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" and has 31 pristine pages with no names or writing. The sentence that jumped out to me from this booklet is this one: "For within the heart of the black community in America there exists today a set of agonies which apparently are part of the necessary inheritance of any community that has been engaged in prolonged struggles for radical change, true freedom and lasting justice.

Gombo Zhebes: Little Dictionary of Creole Proverbs Selected From Six Creole Dialects, Hearn, Lafcadio
187 Hearn, Lafcadio Gombo Zhebes: Little Dictionary of Creole Proverbs Selected From Six Creole Dialects
New York Stated Will H. Coleman Reprint Hard cover Fine condition
This booklet is marked as though it were the original published by Will H. Coleman. It's even dated 1885, but everything about this book is contemporary. Nonetheless it's an interesting one if you are interested in New Orleans and especially the Creole language and culture. The booklet measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/4" with 42 pages including index. Book is presented in both English and Creole. The author, Lafcadio Hearn was Irish, but worked in New Orleans as a newspaper reporter and then migrated to Ohio. Eventually he moved to Japan, married a Japanese woman, had children and wrote many books about Japan. This book is quite good because it also offers notes in English about the meanings and origins of the proverbs. Beautiful condition too.

Reminiscences of Dover, Ohio, Hon. S. Harmount, Mrs. Eliza A. Slinguff, William W. Scott
194 Hon. S. Harmount, Mrs. Eliza A. Slinguff, William W. Scott Reminiscences of Dover, Ohio
Strasburg, Ohio Tuscrawas County Genealogical Society 1972 Reprint Soft cover Fine condition
This booklet is small, but mighty. It measures 4-1/2" x 7" with 116 dense pages. There is a lot of history here as well as names which would be helpful for the genealogist. The booklet appeared originally in 1879 at which time Dover was known as Canal Dover. I was talking to a customer on the phone the other day who told me about how it used to be Canal Dover. And then I found this in a box in the closet and there it was -- Canal Dover. The booklet is pristine -- no names or writing and VERY clean cover and pages. I doubt it's been read. P.S. That one sold and now I have a third one, so these are new pictures.
