Silver Jubilee Our Lady of Lourdes Church Dedication February 11, 1982 (Florida)
25 Silver Jubilee Our Lady of Lourdes Church Dedication February 11, 1982 (Florida)
Florida Our Lady of Lourdes Church 1982 soft cover Very good condition.
Very nice, clean booklet commemorating the dedication of the new Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Only fault is a flat crease to lower front corner of cover. Oddly, there is no reference to the exact town in Florida where it's located, but there is a photo of the presiding Bishop of Orlando, Thomas J. Grady. This is an exceptional keepsake thanks to the many photographs, including some in full color, plus lots of photos of the parishioners in action. There's also history and a roster of the patrons who helped make the new church possible. As always with these momentos, there are ads at the back of the book, but they aren't overwhelming. Some of these have more ads than content but this isn't one of them. Book measures 8-1/2" x 11".

35 Author Unknown A History of Cedar Key (Florida, 1998)
Cedar Key, Florida Cedar Key Beacon 1998 Card cover Fine condition with Bird's Eye View Laid-in
I had one of these before, but it didn't have this wonderful laid-in bird's eye view of the area as it was in 1884. It too is in like new condition, so given that, the booklet is an especially good one. The pictorial view is neatly folded as per design, but when opened measures 11" x 16". the booklet itself measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and has 32 pristine pages. Text covers the history of Cedar Key; the fort at Cedar Key; fight with the Seminoles; steamboats, pencils and railroads; Cedar Key and the Civil War; the coming boom; travelers finding Cedar Key; fishing and sawmills; and the survival of a community.

The Story of Hurricane Cleo (1964), Compiled By Globe News Company
37 Compiled By Globe News Company The Story of Hurricane Cleo (1964)
Fort Lauderdale, Florida Globe News Company 1964 soft cover Very good
Oversized booklet measuring 11" by 9" and featuring 58 pages lavishly illustrated with black and white photographs of the disaster. Clean as a whistle inside and out with one tiny tear to outer edge of front cover and a bit of stubborn soil to upper right corner. Includes significant text, as well as a very nice fold-out map which outlines the storm's path. Cleo blasted Key Biscayne and roared along the Florida coast via State Rte. 7 with winds gusting to 110 miles per hour. The devastation was enormous and included Storyland, a popular children's theme park of the day which was never rebuilt. The storm also marks the only time in its history that the Fort Lauderdale News (the precursor of the Sun-Sentinel) failed to publish. The power was out so long that pressmen were unable to melt the lead for the linotype machines. Employees and their finished, but unpublished, copy were forced to spend the night in the newspaper office sleeping on desk tops. Photos are wonderful -- among them are a lone mannequin standing in the window of a blown-out building with an amazed fireman gazing in, a desolate street strewn with women's shoes, and two forlorn men sitting outside a a Shell station which had, appropriately enough, lost it's S. Text is very well written and includes much detail. An interesting piece of Florida history.

What a beauty this one is! Pristine in its original envelope. I have another of these from the 30's which is nice, but this one is stunning by comparison, thanks to the color photography throughout. Much information and eight full page color photos, some with two on the page and two of which are a spread. The pages are not numbered but I counted 32. Booklet is printed throughout on quality coated paper and has a terrific cover graphic. Measures 6"x9". No names or writing on either the booklet or the envelope.
