Unbrako Screw Calculator (Standard Pressed Steel Company)
42 Unbrako Screw Calculator (Standard Pressed Steel Company)
Philadelphia Penn. Arts Manufacturing Co. No date, but likely 1960's Very good condition
I very much like these little engineering gizmos which served simultaneously as technical tools and advertising. They were sort of the rage in the 60's, so I think it's safe to say that this one is likely from that era too. It slides in and out easily and works like a charm. It measures 3" x 6-1/2".

Warner Swasey No. 2-A Universal Hollow-Hexagaon Turret Lathe (1926)
43 Warner Swasey No. 2-A Universal Hollow-Hexagaon Turret Lathe (1926)
Cleveland, Ohio The Warner-Swasey Company 1926 soft cover Good condition
This booklet from Warner Swasey is focused on one single product, the No. 2-A Universal Hollow-Hexagon Turret Lathe. The booklet was designed with a folder which gathered up two blue sheets of prices for the lathe and its equipment, plus 18 pages of information, illustration, and technical drawings. The condition is overall good, but there is a light dampstain to the bottom edge (see photo) and some yellowing to the edges of the page margins, none of which impinge on the text or images. The booklet mesaures 9" x 11-1/2".

Westinghouse Engineer Magazine November 1945 (TV Broadcasting from the Statosphere)
44 Westinghouse Engineer Magazine November 1945 (TV Broadcasting from the Statosphere)
Westinghouse Electric 1945 Volume Five, Number Six soft cover Very good
Very handsome cover design for this trade journal produced by Westinghouse. The back cover shows an image of Skyhooks for Television, a system of high-flying planes to act as television broadcasting and repeater stations, called Stratovision. The first article in the magazine tells the whole story. Other articles cover nuclear engineering, the electric torpedo, a simple single sideband carrier system, a moisture-proof insulation called Fosterite, 1000-KVA powered sleds, and the control of electric furnaces. There's also a section on new technology. Magazine is clean and bright with just a small bit of wear to the top of spine and measures 9"x10-1/2". It's one of those magazines which start at the next page number following the last issue, so I did the math and came up with 31 pages.

Takis: Evidence of the Unseen (1968 Art at MIT), Anderson, Wayne
45 Anderson, Wayne Takis: Evidence of the Unseen (1968 Art at MIT)
Cambridge, Massachusetts Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 1968 soft cover Very Good
Striking cover, if somewhat simple, draws attention sans words. The booklet was published to accompany an exhibit which was displayed in the Hayden Gallery at MIT from November 15 to December 8, 1968. There is much text interspersed with black and white photographs, but the comments at the back with photos are especially interesting, as the reviewers are Allen Ginsberg, Marcel Duchamp, Gregory Corso and William Burroughs. Takis is a sculptor who balances artistic discernment, scientific knowledge, and the intuition of thing unseen. Booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 33 pages. Only fault is a bit of light toning at spine.

Garden city, New York Doubleday and Company Inc. 1983 0385182783 / 9780385182782 Card cover Nunn, Janet
Fun little stocking stuffer book which measures 5-1/4" in diameter. It's all about 1983 filled with facts of what the world was doing back then. But it's especially interesting to compare the then and now. The chapters are these: Pay Day; Staying in Touch, It's A Bad, Bad World; Accidents Will Happen; The Global Garbage Pile; Friend Or Foe; and A Day in the World 2000. The art is great and plentiful -- black and white, but very good graphics. 126 round pages.

I have several issues on here and will be adding the rest as they present themselves. Some of the many topics in this one are: Engineering Problems in the Rubber Industry; The Tensile Strength of Java Plantation Rubber; The Swelling of Latex; Studies of the Aging of Vulcanized Rubber; The Thermodynamics of Rubber; and Recovering Lead in Rubber Factory;

Rubber Chemistry and Technology Journal April, 1931, Davis, C.C.
50 Davis, C.C. Rubber Chemistry and Technology Journal April, 1931
Easton, Pennsylvania Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society 1931 volume IV, Number 2 soft cover Good condition
I grew up in Akron, the Rubber Capital of the World, so these journals, though hard to find, are like old friends to me. Today I bought maybe ten, so if you would like me to look and see what I have I would be happy to do it. This issue contains many articles, but here's a few examples: Tensile Tests of Vulcanized Rubber at High Speed; The Influence of Rubber "Resins" in Zinc Oxide-Accelerator Mixings; The Kinetics of Vulcanized Rubber; Isoprene and Rubber; The Constitution of Rubber; The Fusion Curve of Natural Rubber and Determination of Alkalinity of Reclaimed Rubber. The journal measures 6"x9 and is tightly bound with no names or writing. Faults are confined to a small loss of outer layer of paper to front cover at lower corner next to spine and a crease to lower back corner which I have strengthened with a slim piece of archival tape to both sides.

53 Dibner, Bern A Letter From Galileo: Galileo the Innovator (1967)
Norwalk, Connecticut Brundy Library 1967 Publication No. 24 Card cover Good condition
A long-lost letter from Galileo about a magnetic clock is the inspiration for this scholarly, but accessible, booklet. it's an interesting look in the brain of a brilliant scientist in his own words. The letter is reproduced in the text. There are also wonderful drawings throughout. As you can see, something was once on top of the booklet, but only a small section was open and was sunned. There is also a small bit of foxing -- one spot at the very top of every page. the booklet measures 8" x 10-1/2" and has 55 pages on heavy cream colored paper.
