The Centennial Book; Official Program of the Ceremonies and Pageant in Celebration of the Centennial of Fountain County at Covington, Indiana 1926
41 The Centennial Book; Official Program of the Ceremonies and Pageant in Celebration of the Centennial of Fountain County at Covington, Indiana 1926
Covington, Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution 1926 Soft cover Very Good
The graphic cover of this program catches the eye! Very handsome and in nice condition too. There's only a few small faults, being a tiny loss of paper to tail of spine. a small chip to top front corner next to spine and a minor bit of soiling to very edge at bottom of title and frontis pages. Measures 8"x10-1/2" and is illustrated throughout with photographs and maps. Much history, as well as the program of events and the script of the pageant staged in honor of the festivities. Unpaginated, but it's pretty hefty for a program.

The Firelands Pioneer New Series Volume III, (January, 1886)
42 The Firelands Pioneer New Series Volume III, (January, 1886)
Norwalk, Ohio Firelands Historical Society 1886 Volume III New Series soft cover Very good condition
I had several Fireland magazines back in 2010, but haven't had any more until now. This is one of six that I just got -- it's very good for readers of Ohio history and genealogy. There are many addresses given to the annual meeting, the first of which is The Life of Our Pioneers by General Franklin Sawyer; Pioneer Life As It Was and As It Is by C.S. Stewart; Our Work In History by Rev. J. Nelson Lewis; The Pioneer Physician by Dr. John C. Sanders of Cleveland; and Some Compensations of the Pioneer Life by Rev. J.M. Seymour. Also included are early historical incidents. Then on to Pioneer History: Legendary Account of the First Camp Meeting in the Firelands;A Fitchville Centenarian, Collins A. Brown 100 Years Old August 19, 1885; Almost a Centrarian, Martin Kellogg of Bronson 99 years on Sept. 2, 1885 and the Army Record of Soldiers From Peru, Huron County. The biographies are the best part I think. Hre are the names mentioned: Ezra and Amy G. Smith, Mrs. Lucretia Waggoneer, Miner Hall and Isaac Underhill; Mrs. John R. Osborn; Hosea Townsend; Myron N. Morris;Ira Wood; Harriet A. Messenger; Hannah Russell and Mrs.Dr. A.D. Skellenger. Other surnames are: Hakes, Quincy Adams, Watros, Maynard, Mead, Green,Sammis, Mallory, Minges, Stewart,Beecher,Scott, Smith, Clark, Conger, Bott, Worthington, Powers, Prentiss, Brooks, Husted, Higgins, White, Latimer and Fancher. The magazine is clean and nice with no names or writing. The only fault is three small areas at spine which lost paper, I have repaired them with archival tape. The magazine measures measures 6-1/4" x 9-1/4" and has 127 pages.

The Journal of the Cuyahoga County Archives
43 The Journal of the Cuyahoga County Archives
Cleveland, Ohio Board of the Cuyahoga County Commissioners 1981 Volume I Card cover Very Good Condition
I very much like these publications from the County Commissioners. They have a tremendous amount of information, especially in this one, which covers the architecture of Cleveland schools, a study of the Soldiers' and Sailors Monument and the Garfield Memorial, the polychromatic treatment of Victorian Housing; and correcting paint staining on the sandstone trim of the Robert Russell Rhodes house in Cleveland among other topics. There's also a chapter with genealogical material. The booklet is oversized at 9" x 12" and has 79 pages.

The Lily Yearbook of The North American Lily Society (four volumes 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981
44 The Lily Yearbook of The North American Lily Society (four volumes 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981
Burlington, Vermont North American Lily Society Inc. 1978,'79,'80 and '81 Hard Cover Fine Condition
Once in awhile hard cover books are ephemeral, easily disposed as one annual replaces another year after year. Here we have what four so crisp and clean it's questionable if they were even read. If lilies are your thing, these are a delight, as each volume is filled with articles and information useful to the grower. Each is illustrated with black and white photos and covers a wide array of topics. Here's some highlighta: 1978 -- China's lilies; miniature lilies; our ancestor's lilies; a theory on disease resistance and susceptibility; breeding lilies on the Canadian prairies; cloning wood lilies; leaf scorch; the harvesting and storage of lily bulbs; and ten hints to make impossible crosses possible. 1979 -- How to run a lily show; lilies as winter-flowering houseplants; early fast forcing; hybridizing; Robert Simonet and the rescued lilies; the progress and expectations of lily culture in the Netherlands; the origin of the Michigan hybrids; a lily sanctuary at the Rae Selling Berry botanic garden; and the Halloween lily. 1980 -- Growth patterns and developments of lilies; lily hybridizing in Michigan; diagnosis of virus diseases in lilies; the Montana State University series of trumpet lilies; and germinating and growing Asiatic lilyseedlings. 1981 -- Tissue culture without intimidation; growing and hybridizing lilies in New Zealand; midwestern Oriental lilies; Botrytis at Honeywood; observations and experiences with native lilies in Korea; Easter lilies in Cos and Curry County history; and the Turk's-Cap lilies of Eastern North America. All four ship for $2 in the U.S. Media mail.

Ohio No publisher stated 2000 Card cover Very Good condition Hartrum, H.H.
The sketch on the front cover is what caught my attention -- that and the fact that it was the second Ohio item I bought this morning for the first time ever. The text is interesting and easy to read and there are floor plans and other architectural art. It also tells the history of the structures mentioned in the title. The courthouse was designated in 1812, but its home was a log cabin!

Historic Troy Ohio (1976), Bravo, Lucia
56 Bravo, Lucia Historic Troy Ohio (1976)
Miami County, Troy, Ohio Troy Historical Society circa 1976 Card cover spiral binding Very Good condition
Very nicely kept booklet with clean cover and an intact brown plastic spiral comb binding. Very handsome cover graphic and many photographs inside with an emphasis on old homes and buildings in Troy. Oddly, there is no stated date, but there are some clues that help -- The Troy Historical Society was formed in 1965 and in 1966 it began researching and taking photos of significant homes and buildings. But the pictures were stored in a scrapbook in the Troy Library until 1974. The upcoming Bicentennial energized the Historical Society to make this material available to anyone interested. Book measures 7-1/2" x 8".

59 Courtney Day, Chris Weldinger, Dan Kubacki et al. As Decade By Decade 1815-2015 Ashland, Ohio
Ashland, Ohio Ashland Times Gazette 2015 Soft cover Very Good
Ashland, Ohio is locoated in Wayne County and is the home of Ashland College. The booklet is oversized at 10-1/2" square and has 47 pages replete with black and white photographs throughoui and a few color ones, especially for the notable fires. The story of Ashland is told decade by decade all the way from 1815 to 2015. I learned something new as soon as I opened the booklet at random. Did you know that parts of the movie, Shawshank Redemption, were filmed in Ashland? Here's something else to know. I just added a memorial for John Ashbrook, a Congressman who died in the 80's and what did I see here but a photo of the Memorial for Rep. John Ashbrook.
