Wove in Indiana and Fancy Weaving Jacquard Coverlets By Indiana Weavers (two exhibition catalogs)
61 Wove in Indiana and Fancy Weaving Jacquard Coverlets By Indiana Weavers (two exhibition catalogs)
Indiana Conner Prairie Pioneer Settlement 1978 & 1981 soft cover Very good
I am delighted to have found these! I have about seven Jacquard coverlets, so was quite charmed when I found them. These are two very nice, clean exhibit catalogs measuring 8" x 11", both featuring the collection of John and Janet Simmermaker of Winnemac, Indiana. Both catalogs were printed to accompany displays at the Conner Prairie Pioneer Settlement. Wove in Indiana was for the December 1978 event. It has 28 counted pages with beautiful photos printed in blue ink, a common color used for Jacquard coverlets which are the product of a loom that used a series of cards (like IBM cards) to make the distinctive pictorial designs. The second catalog, Fancy Weaving, accompanied a display in 1981. This one has less pages (13) and less photos, but describes 78 coverlets in the collection. Information about the craft itself is in the larger book.

The Miniature Book Collector Volume I Nos. 1-2-3-4 Plus Two Miniature Life Magazines (1960), Admomeit, Ruth
63 Admomeit, Ruth The Miniature Book Collector Volume I Nos. 1-2-3-4 Plus Two Miniature Life Magazines (1960)
Cleveland, Ohio Ruth Adomeit 1960 Volume I, Nos. 1-2-3-4 soft cover Fine condition
These little magazines are revered by collectors and members of the Miniature Book Society which was launched by Ruth Adomeit and other like-minded bibliophiles. Adomiet lived in Cleveland, Ohio and at her time was the largest collector of miniature books in the world. The collection was bequeathed to Indiana University upon her death in 1996. Here we have the coveted first year's output -- all four magazines. In these pages, which measure 3-1/4"x4", are many topics including: how to define a miniature book; Le Petite Oiseau Press; Japanese miniature books; books about miniature books; Life Magazine in miniature; and more. Each issue has 16 pages. Also, along with the magazines are two much thinner issues of Life magazine, the very first issue which came out November 23, 1936 and a later one (no date) in full color, likely from 1960. These measure 2-1/4" x 3-1/4". Very desirable and very scarce.(Collector --Drawer I)

67 Blair, C. Dean The Potters and Potteries of Summit County 1828-1915 (Ohio)
Akron, Ohio The Summit County Historical Society 1974 Reprint soft cover Very good
Very desirable title in clean, tightly bound condition. Light sunning to spine and edges of wraps only fault. Book is wonderful with numerous black and white photographs of the products produced, a history of the industry, manufacturing techniques employed, and a checklist of all potters and potteries with known marks, as well as examples of advertising and a facsimile catalog of the Robinson Clay Product Company from 1903. Originally published in 1966 and reprinted here in 1974. In 17 years this is only the second one I've ever had.

The Story of Casas Grandes Pottery (1991), Cahill, Rick

Tucson, Arizona Bookjum Books 1991 0963085301 / 9780963085306 First Edition,Third printing soft cover Near fine
Very handsome booklet showcasing southwest American Indian pottery. I found a few extra articles on the topic laid-in, none of which caused any browning to pages. I have sequestered them in a plastic bag and will send along with the booklet. Everything is crisp and clean and there is no spine crease. Former owner's name on title page, a few tiny check marks next to a couple names on the list of artists at back, and two circled names on the Quezada family genealogy are only faults. There's a lot of information here, but it's the huge pictures and dramatic black and white design which makes it a stand-out. Booklet measures 8-1/2"x11" and has 89 pages. Text is in both ENGLISH and SPANISH.

New York Scala Publishers 2001 1857592379 / 9781857592375 First edition Card cover Fine condition 9" x 8-1/4"
This book is as gorgeous as the beautiful matchsafes on he pages. My husband has been collecting them for years and never fails to find a treasure. Matchsafes are made from many materials and designs, including figurals. They also bring along a bit of whimsey. I am showing the clusters of specimens in the color photos and yet there is still room for an informational text. The book measures 9"x 8-3/4" and has 112 pages. The book is risp and clean inside ad out.

Birmingham, Alabama Pat Dole 1988 January-February, April, May, June, August, October, November, December soft cover Very good condition
Eight issues of the New Glaze Magazine -- "if it's pottery the glaze covers it." This is a slim magazine of 19 pages the emphasis of which is on pottery, porcelain, and ceramics. Companies included are: Imperial Porcelain Potters 1946-1960; Watt Ware; American Willow Variants; Hall; Pennsbury Pottery; Crockery from East Liverpool, Ohio; Corn cookie jars; Metlox Red Rooster Provincial; Morton Pottery; Moran & Mack; and Abingdon Pottery. Charles Eames Furniture From the Design Collection (1973), Drexler, Arthur
73 Drexler, Arthur Charles Eames Furniture From the Design Collection (1973)
New York city The Museum of Modern Art 1973 0870703145 / 9780870703140 Card cover Very good condition
This booklet is an important one for anyone interested in midcentury design and furniture. Even those who know little about it can often recognize an Eames chair. This booklet measures 7-1/2" x 10" and has 56 pages of photographs (color and black and white) plus a significant text. The only fault is one I came close to missing! The catalog is right beside me and it looks perfect. But in the "right" light you can see that someone used the cover as a desk and left behind light scratches. Otherwise it's pristine inside and out. The booklet was the first in a series of important groups of like items from the museum's holdings. Beautiful!

Wigston, Leicester, England Magna Books 1990 1854221973 / 9781854221971 Card cover Ve4ry good condition
Fabulous! Not only are the coffeepots and coffee makers gorgeous, but they also show how our favorite small appliance began. The pictures are huge and in full color and there are also mall pictures of people enjoying the brew. The booklet is huge at 10-2/2" x 14" and has 66 pages. The last pcitures are from the late 1990's. There are no names or writing and binding is sound. The only faults are the corner creases to front cover. I glued the paper on the back of the cover, put them in the book press, and added small white Meto stickers to reenforce the crease.

78 Faber, Ursula A.: Breyer, Mrs. Henry W. Sr. Japanese and Chinese Art Belonging to Estate of the Late Ursula A. Faber, 1963 ) Parke-Bernet
New York Parke-Bernet Galleries Inc. 1963 Soft cover Very good condition
I love these old auction catalogs. This one includes the main collections as listed above, plus some from minor collectors. The catalog measures 7-1/2" x 10-1/2" and has 89 pages showing 414 lots. Photographs were not as plentiful as today, but there are black and white photos which display several items in one picture. There are no names or writing -- I love it when they pencil in the realized prices, but no luck here. What I can't get over though is the fact that the yapped edges are ALL THERE. The overhang causes small tears and eventually the owner trims them. I repaired two tiny tears and one soft corner to upper front using archival tape on the reverse side. Among the items are wood and bronze sculptures, early dynastic bronzes, pottery and porcelain, paintings, prints, screens, decorative objects, furniture and lamps.

80 Gegory J. Higby and Elaine C. Stroud, editors Historical Hobbies For the Pharmacist; Pharmacy Through the Ages.
Madison, wisconsin and ?Washington D.C. American Institute if of the History of Pharmacy; American Pharmaceutical Association 1994 and No Date Card Cover and soft cover Very good condition
It's always fun to buy one thing only to find more stuff inside. Whenever that happens I keep the extras with the original item IF its about the same topic. This time I bought the Hobbies one and inside was the other one, plus a really nice postcard of Niagara Apothecary's Interior (Canadian). There's also a little leaflet about Niagara Apothecary, a publications catalog dated 1995 and a letter from the Institute of the History of Pharmacy, located at the University of Wisconsin of Pharmacy. The bigger book measures 6" x 9" and has 74 pages. So then, what are these hobbies? Here's the choices -- American Pharmaceutical Antiques, Pharmaceutical Archaeology, Pharmaceutical Ephemera, and Pharmaceutical Philately. All items are clean and nice, tough the front cover shows lift due to how many items were in it. I will put the extras in a cello bag and put this one in the book press.
