New York Keuffel & Esser Co. 1955 Fourth printing card cover Very Good
Clean, tightly bound manual originally published in 1943, 1945,1947 and 1955. Laid-in is a supplement to the manual entitled "The DI Scale on the Log Log Duplex Decitrig Slide Rule No. 4081 (and Log Log Duplex Trig No 4080). The supplement is dated 1953 and has just seven pages. The main manual measures 5-1/4"x8" and has 126 pages. It was designed to bring the buyer up to speed with no need for a class or teacher. It's clean and tightly bound, but does show a loss of color to spine and a light vertical crease to cover both front and back covers.

Burbank The Infidel (Luther Burbank 1930 SIGNED by Author), Lewis, Joseph
63 Lewis, Joseph Burbank The Infidel (Luther Burbank 1930 SIGNED by Author)
New York The Freethought Press Association 1930 Hard cover Good-plus
This is again one of those booklets in hard cover. It's a big one though measuring 7" x 10-1/4" with 29 pages printed on coated paper. The book was written as a commemoration of the horticultural scientist, Luther Burbank's, death. The reason for the title is the fact that Burbank was an atheist. Also included in the biographical details are facsimile letters from various people, including Thomas Edison. Book is SIGNED on front free endpaper by the author. There are also a few photographs, but the one of Luther Burbank is the best. Book is tightly bound with no cracking and pristine pages. Only faults are fading at spine and edges of boards and flat creases to both lower corners. They had been crumpled, but I was able to press them out flat again. Very nice overall.

Fortune Magazine July, 1932 (Science and Economics), Luce, Henry R. (editor)
64 Luce, Henry R. (editor) Fortune Magazine July, 1932 (Science and Economics)
New York Time Inc. 1932 Volume VI, No. 1 Card cover Very good condition Zdzislaw Czermanski
The cover of the July, 1932 Fortune Magazine is especially appealing. It's also in very clean, tightly bound condition with only one defect -- what appears as a bit of foxing to the center of the first page which is an index for all issues of Volume VI. The good news is it does not carry over to the reverse. The articles include the California Institute of Technology, genetics, physics, cosmology, applied sciences, United States budget, S. Klein's Store in New York City, President Herbert Hoover's Economics, and the Federal Reserve Board. But there's also a pop of color thanks to the drawings of Zdzislaw Czermanski. Magazine has no spine crease and no loss of paper to same. The magazine measures 11-1/4" x 14".

Sacred Geometry 1998, Miaranda Lundy
66 Miaranda Lundy Sacred Geometry 1998
New York Walker & Company 1998 0802713823 / 9780802713827 Later printing Hard cover Fine Dust jacket Fine
This is ahandsome book for a gift. There's no punch of color as you can see, but the use of beige and grey are elegant. The book measures 6" x 7" and is pristine inside and out. There are are no creases, chips, or tears, and no names or writing. I am bemused by this book and yet don't know enough about it. FROM THE BACK JACKET: "Miranda Lundy presents a unique introduction to this most ancient and timeless of universal sciences. Sacred Geometry demonstrates what happens to space in two dimensions -- a subject last flowering in the art, science, and architecture of the Renaissance and seen in Stonehenge, mosque decorations, and church windows. There are 58 pages and many beautiful drawings. The dustjacket will arrive in a brand new mylar cover. I have two of these -- one has a white cover and the other has brown one. If you're the first to buy one you can have the one of your chose.

Ann Arbor Alive; The Ecology of a City, Moichael J. Caduto; Laurie D. Mann
67 Moichael J. Caduto; Laurie D. Mann Ann Arbor Alive; The Ecology of a City
Ann Arbor, Michigan An Ecology Center of Ann Arbor Publication 1981 Soft Cover Very good condition Judy Zatsick
There are several books and booklets about Ann Arbor, but this one is focused on the ecology. The book measures 6"x 9" and has 105 pages. I know it should be 100 or less to be a booklet, so I'm calling it a book, but I'm still sneaking it in anyway. The book covers Ann Arbor Yesterday and Today; The Feel of the City; The Urban Forest; Ann Arbor's Animals; Providing Clean Water; City Weather; The Air We Breathe; Sounds of the City; The Solid Waste Story; Transportation in Ann Arbor; Energy Issues; and Planning to Meet Human Needs. The text is filled with maps, art and photos. The book is clean and nice with no spine crease. There is one mark of pen on the Acknowledgments page with a line through the word Society and replaced it with Foundation. Lori D. Mann, one of the two authors, SIGNED it on the upper corner o on the back of the front cover.

Announcement of the Northern Indiana School of Pharmacy Session 1896-97, No author Stated
69 No author Stated Announcement of the Northern Indiana School of Pharmacy Session 1896-97
Valparaiso, Indiana northern Indiana Normal School 1896 Soft cover Good
This booklet is not often seen. It measures 5-3/4" x 8-3/4" and has 26 pages. The beauty of it is the blue illustrations throughout, all of which are large photos, 12 in all. The booklet shows creasing to lower corner of cover and for a few pages inside. There's also a small tear at the bottom of each page. The first page has a small square of paper over the tear, but it doesn't show on the back -- just archival tape. I think the previous owner tried glue first which may have required the patch. The rest of the pages have archival tape on both sides (see photo). There are great pictures of inside the classrooms plus much information on what it meant to work for this degree in the late 1890's. The odd thing is a page with tiny photos of the graduates and even tinier names. I could read these only: W.C. Canfield, J.C. Buckler, E.G. Fishburn, C.A. Bailey, J.W. Jenson,, M.S. Basnett, E.E. McRill and. J.F. Smith.. The tex is easily read, but to get those names you need a better magnifying glass than I have.

71 No author stated Official Book of the Fair: A Century of Progress International Exhibition Chicago 1933
Chciago A Century of Progress Inc. 1933 Second edition Card cover Very good condition
The beautiful cover of this program beckoned fair-goers to spend a quarter to get one. And when they got it they carefully kept it. The fair opened on June 1st, 1933 and ended in November 1, 1933. The cover design is bracketed with two sculptures -- Science and Industry. Open the cover and see the aerial map, a two page spread in full color. From there there is much to read about so amny discoveries replete with black and white photographs throughout. The booklet measures 6" x 9-1/2" with 103 pages, plus two pages dedicated to convince vacationers to buy extras for friends and family. Booklet is clean and bright with a complete paper spine strip and clean pages. U.S.A. Hubbard Scientific Co. 2000 0831118021 Card cover, Plastic Spiral Binding Very good condition
Though I put this in the children's category, this guide would most likely be an interactive project for kids and parents together. The guide is large at 11-1/2" x 13-3/4" and has 21 card pages. The big blue circle in photo two is a movable basic star map. There's also a Glow-in-the Dark Star Finder and multiple charts for all seasons in the sky. The book shows no names or writing and the plastic spiral is in very good condition. The only fault is spots of minor edge wear to front cover.

Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering Magazine March 15, 1919, Parmelee, H.C. Editor
76 Parmelee, H.C. Editor Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering Magazine March 15, 1919
New York McGraw Hill 1919 Volume XX, No. 6 soft cover Good
This trade journal is not too often seen -- this is the only issue I've ever had. It's in good, tightly bound condition, but does show a few glitches -- a small loss of paper to bottom back cover next to spine, a small smudge to back cover, and some toning to top edge at front and a few small edge tears which have been repaired by me on reverse side with archival tape which will not brown. The ads are terrific -- many industrial companies with bold graphics of their products. Among the articles are these topics: the Water Power Bill, the organization of the American Welding Society, German requisitions in Poland, the engineer as a citizen, the National Association for the Protection of American Rights In Mexico, import of platinum in the U.S., exports of glycerine in 1918, a new process for the manufacture of sulphuric acids and more. 178 pages.

Miscellaneous Data Being Volume IV Final Report Ohio Topographic Survey ( SIGNED By Author, much Ephemera laid-in) 1933, Sherman, C.E.
79 Sherman, C.E. Miscellaneous Data Being Volume IV Final Report Ohio Topographic Survey ( SIGNED By Author, much Ephemera laid-in) 1933
Columbus, Ohio Yhe Ohio State University Press 1933 hard cover Very good
Wow -- this a is a very nice Ohio collectible, as it was the author's, C. E. Sherman's, own copy. HE SIGNED his name and address on the front free endpaper and also stamped it. Nice, clean, tightly bound book. The word "final" has faded a bit on the spine, but can still be read. The envelope affixed as per design to back pastedown retains its original map, but caused foxing to opposite page. The map itself is in excellent condition. Book is illustrated throughout text with more maps and charts. Text is lengthy and does show some underlining and check marks likely made by author. What's especially interesting though is the ephemera left inside. These include a greeting card SIGNED by Thomas Ewing French who was a drafting professor at Ohio State and for whom the athletic field house is named. There is also a SIGNED letter from Sherman (author) to H.A. Rettig, the State Puchasing Agent. Also included is a letter dated 1920 from the Department of the Interior in Washington from D.H. Birdseye, Chief Geographic Engineer. This is dated 1920 and comes with some scribbled calculations by Birdseye. There are also other lesser, but interesting items too. Book has 327 pages. Note -- THIS IS VOLUME IV ONLY.
