The Conquest: Lucas County Historical Series Volume I (Ohio 1948), Downes, Randolph C.
61 Downes, Randolph C. The Conquest: Lucas County Historical Series Volume I (Ohio 1948)
Toledo, Ohio The Historical Society of Northwestern, Ohio 1948 Card cover Very Good
Pages are uniformly toned and there is some light wear to lower front edge of cover, but overall booklet is very clean and attractive. Each title in the series was about a different topic, so this one is complete as is. I was surprised to read that the illustrations were rendered by high school students from Toledo, Ohio, as they are quite good. Text covers the founding of the area, the various cultures which settled it, Native Americans, and the wars. Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 95 pages including index.

Downtown Subway Public Hearing Before the Cuyahoga County Comissioners Dec. 14, 1959, Frank M. Gorman President, Chairman
64 Frank M. Gorman President, Chairman Downtown Subway Public Hearing Before the Cuyahoga County Comissioners Dec. 14, 1959
Cleveland, Ohio Cuyahoga County Commissioners Dec. 14, 1959 Card cover Good condition No illustrations
I bought this a long time ago and am just now getting around to it. As it says on the front cover it's an original copy. As suspected, it's printed simply and with thin, but strong paper. It begins with a rebuttal. Throughout the text these names show up --Frank M. Gorman, Henry W. Speeth, William P. Day, A.M. Braun, Albert S. Porter, Eric A. Grubb, Donald H. Zimmerman and Robert J. Shoup. There are a few places where a mark was written in the margin, but in this case it might be a good thing. The book measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 146 pages which begin with 1198 to 1344. The silver sticker on the cover advertises Herman I. Toll Associates.

Hannastown; Historic Hanna's Town (1977), Hahn, Edward H.
67 Hahn, Edward H. Hannastown; Historic Hanna's Town (1977)
Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania Hanna Guild of the Westmoreland County Historical Society 1977 soft cover Both items in Fine condition
The main booklet was very simply bound by the historical society, but has been very nicely kept. I suspect that this sort of binding caused many copies to go south which is why it's a bit hard to find. The booklet dates from 1977 and is crisp and clean with a plastic binding. Sixteen dense pages, plus two appendices and one drawing of the town as it was in the 18th century makes for much information. And there's a bonus -- the handsome brochure published for tourists was found inside. The main booklet is not fluff. It measures 8-1/2"x11"

Otto Ping: Photographer of Brown County, Indiana (1994), Hartley, Douaglas W,
68 Hartley, Douaglas W, Otto Ping: Photographer of Brown County, Indiana (1994)
Indianapolis, Indiana Indiana Historical Society 1994 card cover
Very nice clean booklet extolling the interesting photographs of Otto Ping, a Brown County citizen who was no photographer, nor artist, nor technician -- he just liked to take pictures. Critics think he had numerous problems with his pohotography and yet in the 1960's when Ping was no longer a shutterbug he worked with Professor Hartley who encouraged him to hang on to his enire life's work, which Ping did.The essay in front tells more about him and is followed by a colelction of his best sepia photographs enchanced with descriptions. Book measures 8-1/2" x 10" with 94 pages plus a bibliography. (Hist. III)

Reminiscences of Dover, Ohio, Hon. S. Harmount, Mrs. Eliza A. Slinguff, William W. Scott
70 Hon. S. Harmount, Mrs. Eliza A. Slinguff, William W. Scott Reminiscences of Dover, Ohio
Strasburg, Ohio Tuscrawas County Genealogical Society 1972 Reprint Soft cover Fine condition
This booklet is small, but mighty. It measures 4-1/2" x 7" with 116 dense pages. There is a lot of history here as well as names which would be helpful for the genealogist. The booklet appeared originally in 1879 at which time Dover was known as Canal Dover. I was talking to a customer on the phone the other day who told me about how it used to be Canal Dover. And then I found this in a box in the closet and there it was -- Canal Dover. The booklet is pristine -- no names or writing and VERY clean cover and pages. I doubt it's been read. P.S. That one sold and now I have a third one, so these are new pictures.

One Hundred Years of the First Congregational Church of Weymouth, Ohio 1835-1935, Hopkins, Alicia G.
71 Hopkins, Alicia G. One Hundred Years of the First Congregational Church of Weymouth, Ohio 1835-1935
Weymouth, Ohio Weymouth Church 1935 Card cover Very Fine Condition
This church history is not only lengthy, but is in beautiful condition. It had only one owner and was gently cared for. The booklet is printed in brown ink on heavy cream paper by the Wadsworth Press. It measures 6" x 8" and is bound with its original cording. The pages are not numbered, but I counted 37, plus a tipped-in page inside back cover due to an error that resulted in the omission of a group called the Weymouth Christian Crusaders. Booklet commemorated the church's Centennial.
