1945 British Calendar Glamis Castle former Home of the Queen
1 1945 British Calendar Glamis Castle former Home of the Queen
Dundee J.B. White 1945 Very good
What a charming item this is -- a calendar comprised of two pieces -- the large one which is a print of Glamis Castle of Dundee, former home of the Queen Mum, mounted on cardboard with a paper mat and measuring an ample 6-1/2" x8". The image is in full-color, as is the cameo portrait of the Her Majesty in the upper right corner. The ribbon at the top is for hanging. Suspended, also with the same ribbon, is a small calendar with all pages intact. This measures 3"x4". The calendar was given as a gift as per inscription at back which reads "Glamis Castle is only 5 miles from Longacre. Wishing you all the best for 1945." It's signed on the gift sticker provided by the printing company "Betty."

British Empire Exhibition 1924 Official Guide
5 British Empire Exhibition 1924 Official Guide
Fleetway Press 1924 soft cover Very Good
This is a fun find because I've never had one before and it's a guide to a huge exhibition which celebrated Britain and the 58 - count 'em - countries that made up the Empire in 1924. All of the countries participated with the exception of Gambia and Gilbraltar, so when King George V opened the exhibition on April 23, 1924 (St. George's Day), it was a moment to remember. The second photo shows a world map that came from the pocket at the inside front cover. The guide measures 5-1/2"x8-1/2" and has 128 pages illustrated with photographs. Great ads throughout, plus those contained in the advertising section in photo three. The exhibit and the guide would remind you of a World's Fair.

New york Wilkinson Publishing Co. Ltd. 1951, but calendar is for 1952 Card cover Very good condition
About two decades ago when I began my business I had one of these calendars for 1951. I thought it was charming, but never again did I see one until recently. It's in nice condition too and no one pulled off any of the small monthly pages. The cover photo is printed in sepia and the big photos inside are in black and white. The cover shot is of Westminster Abbey seen from St.James's Park. Inside there are no notations or circling on any of the dates. Very nice! Would make a nice gift for someone born that year.

Many wonderful examples of his work throughout, each with attribution. Most in black and white, but some color. 32 Pages. Mesures 6-1/2" x 9-3/4". Pristine.

London East London History Society 1992 No. 15 Card cover Fine condition
I bought a handful of these little magazines a week ago and am amazed at how interesting they are. Any issue is an Anglophile's delight. This issue offers the following articles: A Childhood in Bow; Frederick Rogers Bookbinder and Journalist; The Ingles of Limehouse; Satan, Sufragettes and Salvation; The Bethnal Green Tube Disaster; and They Carried the Banner. The latter is about education in poverty stricken neighborhoods. People were binding together to improve things, but chose a name which might be a little .... Gypsy Caravan Print Frank Brangwyn (1920's)
18 Gypsy Caravan Print Frank Brangwyn (1920's)
Unknown publisher Very Good Brangwyn, Frank
Beautiful watercolor print bursting with color and activity. I purchased it from a longtime dealer who saved plates from damage books. I had a hard time figuring out who the artist was though because he only printed the name on one print! But the style is so unique it was easy to see that the others were British artist, Frank Brangwyn's, work too. The print is tipped-in on the paper rather than being printed on it and measures in its entirety 9-1/2"x11-1/2". The image size is 6-3/4"x9". Plate is clean on both sides and ready to frame.

20 Journal of the British Society of Dowsers (6 issues 1979-1883)
Ashford Kent, England British Society of Dowsers 1979-1983 soft cover Very good condition
These little magazines are great fun to read whether you believe in dowsing, or you don't. They're all clean and tightly bound and there are no labels. One issue shows foxing to the first two pages (see last photo) caused by a catalog of books available in the Dowser Society Bookshop. The catalog almost makes it worth the defect -- no, I think it actually does! :-) The magazines measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and have around 47 pages each. Here's asample of topics: the use of numbers in magic and healing, dowsing and the healing art, dowsing in everyday life, reflexology, what makes a good dowser, intuition and dowsing, wells and well drilling, proxy dowsing, dowsing for Roman roads, weather prediction by dowsing, practice for water dowsing, the Lost Cross of Waltham Abbey, Orthomolecular Nutrition, cradle charms, change of body weight during water divining, the use of the pendulum and more.
