Echoes of a Lost Generation: Poetry and Essays of the Holocaust (1978)
1 Echoes of a Lost Generation: Poetry and Essays of the Holocaust (1978)
Cleveland Heights, Ohio Cleveland Heights High School 1978 Second edition Card cover Good condition
I bought this booklet years ago in Cleveland Heights, but was not sure where it came from originally ,so back into the closet it went several times. But this time my research answered the question of location. It's a student publication written and published at Cleveland Heights High School. There are stark black and white drawings and a few black and white photos. The students grasped both the history and the emotion of the horror. Many wrote with the voice of the children but others told the story of the adults who lost their lives too. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" with 46 pages and each poem or essay is signed by its author. Booklet shows only some light sunning around the edges of the front cover, but is otherwise nice.

Edinburgh International Festival Souvenir Programme 1965
2 Edinburgh International Festival Souvenir Programme 1965
Edinburgh, Scotland Edinburgh Festival Society Ltd. 1965 Card cover Good condition
Thumbing through the many pages (54 plus ads) makes you want to go to the next one. It's all about the arts -- many arts -- painting, music, singing, poetry, theatre, and a film festival with two whole weeks to enjoy it. Some of the highlights of the 1965 festival include five orchestras, a Corot exhibition, the Netherlands chamber choir, Indian music, Poets in Public, opera, treasures of Romanian art, live theater, and the Military Tattoo. Great black and white photos throughout, plus info on the various offerings day by day. Program measures 7-1/4" x 10-1/4". There's a bit of wear to front cover as you can see, but program is tightly bound with pristine pages

The chairw as given to him as a gift on his 72nd birthday from the children of Cambridge because it was made of the chestnut wood made famous in his poem "The Village Blacksmith." The room with the fireplace was Longfellow's study. The other one with a table was the dining room, and the staircase is what he referred to as "the broad hall stair" in "The Children's Hour". The Victoria Book of Days In Slipcase (1989)
10 The Victoria Book of Days In Slipcase (1989)
New York Hearst Books 1989 First edition stated Hard cover in slipcase Fine condition
This is both pretty and wise, a gem to keep for yourself, or a gift for someone else. It's not a desk calendar, but a book of days which is divided into the four seasons. There's beautiful art in full color, classic poetry, snips from the text of classic books, recipes, and places to write your thoughts, your favorite things, and your memories. It has not been used and is clean and bright, as is the slipcase. The only minor thing is a pretty unused bookplate affixed to front paste down. The book measures 6-1/2" x 8-1/2". Among the authors are Emily Dickinson, Dylan Thomas, Louisa May Alcott, L.L. Montgomery who wrote the Anne of Green Gables books, and Shakeespeare.

The Women of the Golden Horn by James Magner (SIGNED Poetry)
11 The Women of the Golden Horn by James Magner (SIGNED Poetry)
Cleveland, Ohio The Ryder Press 1976 soft cover Very Good Condition
I am very fond of the work of this poet, so you may have to take this with a grain of salt. But to appreciate both him and his work do type his name into google and bring up the blog post written by his friend. If it plays music at the end you've got the right one. Magner was a long-time John Carroll University professor, and several time nominee for the Pulitzer Prize. This booklet was SIGNED and inscribed by him with the date Sept. 14, 1988. Magner died in 2000. The booklet measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and has 68 pages.

Violets From Lowell (Gift Book in Original Box 1912)
12 Violets From Lowell (Gift Book in Original Box 1912)
New York Cupples & Leon 1912 Padded Boards Fine in Good Box
Oh, how I love old gift books, but when I get one in its original box I have to work to remain dignified! This one is beautiful and was clearly kept as a treasure. The theme of course is the poems of John Russell Lowell paired with that of violets. Together they are totally charming. This one was given as a Christmas gift in 1912 and is recorded as such on the reverse of the front free endpaper. The hard cover boards are a padded faux leather which is pristine, as are the book pages. The box is soiled a bit and lightly worn, but the gem inside is a beauty. Art is brightly colored and plentiful. Pages are numbered, but I counted 23 with content.

13 Walt Whitman Here and Now April 25-26, 1980; A Conference in Celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Publication of Leaves of Grass (Extra Material Laid-in )
New York Hoffstra University 1980 First Edition soft cover Very good
With the exception of one small circular stain to front cover outside the margin of the cover image, a very tiny one at back, and a very small tear to upper front edge, program is very clean and nice. Inside is laid a very large folded advance publicity piece containing an unused registration form. But the best part is a 47 page transcript of one of the talks given at the conference addressing Whitman's world view. All pieces found together. It's a really nice addition to a collection -- seldom seen.

14 Alta No Visible Means of Support by Alta, 1971 (Feminist Poetry)
San Lorenzo, California Shameless Hussy Press 1971 soft cover Very good condition
Hard-hitting poems written during the womens' movement of the early 1970's. Raw and visceral, but also quite good. Chapbook's design displays an anti-establishment vibe with its back cover. The poet listed recent poems she had written, but the publisher (named)"hasn't paid me yet tho we signed a contract. Women in sexist society dig it." The poet founded the Shameless Hussy Press, the first of its kind, in 1969 and kept it going to 1989. Chapbook measures 7" x 8-1/2". Its very clean and tightly bound with no names or writing. Crocus In the Snow: A Book of Poems by Joan Walsh Anglund (1990), Anglun, Joan Walsh
15 Anglun, Joan Walsh Crocus In the Snow: A Book of Poems by Joan Walsh Anglund (1990)
New York Random House 1990 0394584368 / 9780394584362 First Edition Stated Hard cover Fine Condition Fine dustjacket
These little gift books have been given to many people. I remember getting them from friends back in the 60's. I have since accumulated a small number of them, all of which are here. The book is pristine with only one fault, a short inscription to a child from his mother and dated 1995. I will enclose a brand new floral bookplate which you can use, or not, at your choice to cover it. These are short poems -- one a day to remember as you go about the hours. The book measures 4-3/4" x 7-3/4" and has 63 pages. The dustjacket will also arrive in a brand new mylar cover.

Almost A Rainbow: A Book of Poems (Joan Walsh Anglund, 1980), Anglund, Joan Walsh
16 Anglund, Joan Walsh Almost A Rainbow: A Book of Poems (Joan Walsh Anglund, 1980)
New York Random House 1980 0394500725 / 9780394500720 Hard Cover Like New Like New Dustjacket
Joan Walsh Anglund remains a favorite, both for her simple poems and charming illustrations. This little gift book is a collection of small poems and thoughts, one per page, but with no illustration other than that on the dustjacket. I was surprised by that, but it's still a pretty little gift. The only fault is a new blank bookplate. I put it in because the original one had fallen off and left a shadow of itself on the endpaper. I think the new one looks very pretty though. The book measures 4-3/4" x 8" and has 63 pages. Will arrive in brand new mylar cover.

What a lovely book -- clean and crisp as the day in 1987 that it ran off the press. No defects and shows as new. Joan Anglund was a big deal in the 1960's -- I remember both buying and being given her sweet little books. This one comes along twenty years later, but is still vintage Anglund. The book measures 4-1/2" x 7-3/4" and has 63 pages. The dustjacket will arrive in brand new mylar to keep it as beautiful as it is now. A lovely little gift.
