I've never seen this one, so it was a delight to find a brand-new-to-me piece of Akron history. There's some toning around the edges of the cover, but none inside. 2 A New Generation Looks at Downtown Housing in Cleveland (1983)
Cleveland, Ohio Architects Society of Ohio. Cleveland Chaper American Institute of Architects 1983 Card cover Very good condition
Downtown Cleveland is the coolest place to live these days, but in 1983 when this study came out the suburbs ruled. The Architects Society of Ohio and the Cleveland Chapter of the American Institute of Architects challenged Ohio's college students at the University of Cincinnati, Kent State, Miami, and Ohio State to participate in a student design seminar. This booklet is the result. As you can see it's bound with a metal spiral and is clean and nice. Measures 8" x 10-1/2" and has 22 pages. Illustrated with colorful graphics, small photographs and architectual drawings. Not often seen.

Albert W. Smith Educator, Chemist and Engineer (Case Western Reserve University)
3 Albert W. Smith Educator, Chemist and Engineer (Case Western Reserve University)
Cleveland, Ohio Case Western Reserve University Unknown Date Card cover Near fine
This is one of the most elegant booklets I've ever seen. The cover is made of substantial cardstock with raised letters at front, acetate endpapers both front and back, quality coated paper, and excellent black and white historic photographs, plus facsimiles of documents. The subject, Albert W. Smith, was part of small coterie of scientists who worked to found the profession of Chemical Engineering and in doing so put Case Institute of Technology as it as called then, on the educational map.The booklet measures 8-1/2"x11" and has 39 pages.

Annual Circular for the Eighth Year of the Cleveland Academy 1869-70
4 Annual Circular for the Eighth Year of the Cleveland Academy 1869-70
Cleveland, Ohio The Cleveland Academy 1869 Eighth year soft cover Good-plus condition
It's interesting that in the eighth year of the Cleveland Academy the school still sent a circular rather than a catalog to students and would-be students. The other interesting thing is that the senior and middle grade classes were populated with girls only. The junior class and the preparatory class, however, had both girls AND boys, though girls dominated. Example --the junior class had 44 girls and nine boys. Members of the graduating class were Laura Barnett, Helen P. Briggs, Fannie A. Fuller, Nettie Hall, Grace A. Kingsley, Cora Kingsley, Gussie Marchand and Ada W. Simonds. The circular shows a light skim of grayness to top front edge and an indentation to the upper fold from a paper clip. A previous owner wrote 68-9 next to the date which is 1869-70. I held it up to my magnifier and the printed date is right. A very scarce item.

Attica High School Commencement Program 1886 (Attica, Ohio)
5 Attica High School Commencement Program 1886 (Attica, Ohio)
Attica, Ohio Attica High School 1886 Card Very good
Very handsome little program with die-cut edges proudly commemorating the 7th Annual Commencement Program (1886) of Attica High School in Attica, Ohio (Seneca County). Very handsome design printed on cardboard folded in the center with printing on all four sides. The superintendent of the school (who was also a teacher) was R.B. Drake and the evening's address was given by Professor Chas. H. Churchill of Oberlin College. There were only seven graduates --Lilla Elane Howen, Millie Agnes Brant, James Huckingham, Clare Bel Cooper, Nellie Alice Groves, Samuel Ellsworth Leonard and Ida Luella Sanford. The program measures 3-1/4" across and 4-1/2" tall. Only fault is two tiny brown spots to outer edge at front. Otherwise beautiful. Here's an interesting fact -- research shows that 800 people were on hand that night for just seven graduates.

Baldwin Wallace Alumnus (July, August 1967)
6 Baldwin Wallace Alumnus (July, August 1967)
Berea, Ohio Baldwin Wallace College 1967 soft cover Good-plus
Oversized magazine with a wonderful cover graphic. It measures 10"x 13-1/4 and has 33 pages. The back shows a mailing label discreetly placed in the area designed for it and there is also a bit of edge wear to the spine area, none of which impinges of the integrity of the binding. If you graduated from BW in 1967 or were at the Alumni party the same year there's lots of memories in this one. There's also an article about BW's admired Conservatory and the cover and fold-out celebrate the art of Felix de Weldon, the artist pictured beneath the enormous horses on the cover. There's also BW sports in here and news from the classes from 1898 to 1967

Cleveland Institute of Art Catalog 1983-1985
12 Cleveland Institute of Art Catalog 1983-1985
Cleveland, Ohio Clevelanf Institute of Art 1983 soft cover Very good
A very handsome catalog sent to would-be students. Of course it has all the information needed to determine what courses and majors are offered, classes to be taken etc., as well as the glitzy parade of color photos of student work which is most impressive. The really good part though is the full page black and white photographs of students plying their various arts. Each is full page and and most inviting. Catalog measures 8-1/2"x10-3/4" and has 88 pages, plus laid-in unused application. Clean and nice inside and out with just a few spots of isolated edge wear to front cover.

13 Color Postcard Main Building Tri State College Angola, Indiana (1908)
Angola, Indiana Shank & Son 1908 Very good
Very handsome postcard, a vertical color view of the main building and tower of Tri State College Angola,Indiana. The card is clearly postmarked Angola,Indiana Jan 11, 1908. It was sent to Miss Georgie Sumner of Bayard, Ohio in Columbiana County. I can't read the sender's last name -- the first is Lewis and he was from Angola. There is no message to speak of except the word Exchange. Card shows a small wear at spots along bottom edge, but is overall quite nice. It will arrive in a plastic sleeve.

Echoes of a Lost Generation: Poetry and Essays of the Holocaust (1978)
16 Echoes of a Lost Generation: Poetry and Essays of the Holocaust (1978)
Cleveland Heights, Ohio Cleveland Heights High School 1978 Second edition Card cover Good condition
I bought this booklet years ago in Cleveland Heights, but was not sure where it came from originally ,so back into the closet it went several times. But this time my research answered the question of location. It's a student publication written and published at Cleveland Heights High School. There are stark black and white drawings and a few black and white photos. The students grasped both the history and the emotion of the horror. Many wrote with the voice of the children but others told the story of the adults who lost their lives too. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" with 46 pages and each poem or essay is signed by its author. Booklet shows only some light sunning around the edges of the front cover, but is otherwise nice.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Child of the Sun: A Walking Tour of Florida Southern College (circa 1998)
17 Frank Lloyd Wright's Child of the Sun: A Walking Tour of Florida Southern College (circa 1998)
Lakeland, Florida Florida Southern College circa 1998 Soft cover brochures Very good condition
Here we have three clean brochures which arrived together in the same cello bag. The two most important are'lt dated, but I did find a very small date on the campus map -- 1998.The major brochure with the photo of FLW opens to reveal four panels with information about local buildings illustrated with eight sepia pictures. Turn it over and you have more info and three more photos. The second brochure tells the story of Wright's relationship with the college. Thirdly, we have a campus map. The only fault to these may not be a fault at all because it provides additional information. On the back of the brochure about Wright's relationship to the college the previous owner penned names of what I surmise are donors to the FLW buildings on campus. Nice set.

Hebron Academy Hebron, Maine 1928 Catalog
20 Hebron Academy Hebron, Maine 1928 Catalog
Hebron, Maine Hebron Academy 1928 soft cover Good
As you can see, the cover shows dampstain, but fortunately it appears much less on the blue endpapers inside the catalog. I might have passed it by if I didn't know how hard it can be to find these old school catalogs which are interesting and also helpful with family genealogy. There is also some foxing on the photo fold-out at the front and at the back of the book -- anywhere that the paper is coated. The bulk of the catalog is NOT on coated paper though, so it is showing no foxing. This school is still in operation and traces its beginnings to the 19th century. The catalog provides the names of the Board of trustees, the calendar of school events, school history, the courses offered and what is expected of students, and a summation of available scholarships and how to get one. There's also a roster of boys from freshman through seniors. The catalog measures 6-1/2"x9-1/2" and is tightly bound with 62 pages. Also of interest is a letter inside to a Roland Leighton of Cleveland from a competing school, Bridgeton Academy, of Bridgton, Maine hoping to get him to enroll there.
