1862 Johnson's Map of Washington and Oregon
1 1862 Johnson's Map of Washington and Oregon
Unknown Location Johnson and Ward circa 1863 later printing
The 1862 map of the territories of Washington and Oregon is a lovely thing with its hand coloring and handsome double face font for lettering. If you look in the lower corner you see the number 57 which indicates it was the 57th plate in Alvin J. Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas published originally by Johnson and Browning in 1862. The question is when was this particular one printed? It states on the map that the publisher was Johnston and Ward which means it's around 1863, as that's the year the company's name changed from Johnson and Browning to Johnson and Ward. The map was made at the start of the Civil War with much land especially in eastern Oregon not settled, but you can also pick out sites such as Mt. Ranier and Fremont's Peak among others, plus you can see the route proposal for the Pacific Railroad. The map measures roughly 13" x 17". It's a guess though because it's been professionally double matted snd that's all I can see of it. Only faults are a dark spot to upper right corner and a small surface mar to mat at about 3-1/2" down from the top left. There is a small tear to the mat and a thin indentation next to it on the map itself, but the paper is not torn. The map including matting mesures 18" x 22". Will ship for $2 in U.S.

Official World's Fair Weekly Century of Progress Chicago, 1933
8 Official World's Fair Weekly Century of Progress Chicago, 1933
chicago A Century of Progress Internatioanl Exhibition 1933 Vol. I, No. 8 soft cover Very condition
From May to October 1933 the entity overseeing the Chicago World's Fair published a full-out magazine with stories about the exhibits and information on what to do each day. The highlights for this week, the fourth, went on until June 24th. The big event was the Zoo of Dragons. I took a picture of both the ad and the opening pages of the story itself -- quite an endeavor! Other stories include a convention bringing together scientists from all over the world; the exhibition of the painting, Whistler's Mother, which was on loan from a museum in Paris; the story of neon lights; log rolling; faster trains; the art of Sweden; a cyclorama of the Battle of Gettysburg; an Old West Town and much more. Magazine is in clean, tightly bound condition -- very nice. Measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 64 pages.

Postcard Flagstaff, Arizona Kopper Kard
11 Postcard Flagstaff, Arizona Kopper Kard
Salt Lake City, Utah Kopper Kard Co. pre-postal code Fine condition
This card is really attractive. The embossed metal captures the beauty of the Arizona Desert and is just oversized enough to do it justice. Card measures 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" which makes it too large to fit a postcard sleeve, but will arrive in a small cello bag that fits it perfectly. There's no date here, but the publisher's address shows no postal code, much less a zip code, so it's clearly vintage.

14 S.D. Myres Holsters Belts Art Leather (1944 Trade Catalog)
El Paso, Texas S.D. Myres 1944 soft cover Good-plus
Very uncommon trade catalog and very graphically appealing. It's clean inside and out with just light wear to edges of cover. The catalog is tightly bound throughout, measures 6"x9", and has 32 pages with additional products on reverse of back cover. Numerous photographs throughout and an unused order blank laid-in. Products include items for the border patrol, plus fancy holsters for many types of guns and knives, handcuff cases, belts, including "Buscadero" and cartridge belts, scabbards for rifles, silver buckles , and tooled leather bags, camera cases, and briefcases. Colorado Springs Century One Press 1976 soft copver Near fine anderson Bill (photographer)
Very pretty and very interesting if you're a gardener, or a natural history buff. The booklet is clean and bright and appears unread. The only fault is a small blacked out price on the back and a tiny black spot on the spine. Pages are pristine with no names or writing and very handsome photos including one in color at frontis. This is isn't a field guide -- it's narrative which tells the stories of how the wildflowers of the Rocky Mountain West got their names and their namers. A Wilder in the West; The Story of Eliza Jane, Anderson, William (editor)
20 Anderson, William (editor) A Wilder in the West; The Story of Eliza Jane
De Smet, South Dakota Unknown 1971 soft cover
Very nice clean booklet SIGNED on title page by editor. If you collect Laura Ingalls Wilder this is a nice item to deepen the collection. It tells the story of Laura's sister-in-law Eliza and her experiences homesteading in De Smet, Dakota Territory beginning in 1879. The account is told in Eliza's own voice, as the booklet is comprised of the transcript of a speech Eliza gave to the Department of the Interior in Washington D.C. Sadly, the last few pages of the original manuscript went missing, so the story ends a bit abruptly, but additional material was added beneath by the editor about Eliza and the Wilders. 17 pages. Booklet was distributed by the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society Inc.
