Build Beauty, Economy, Permanence into your Home with Curtis Woodwork (1944)
2 Build Beauty, Economy, Permanence into your Home with Curtis Woodwork (1944)
Clinton. Iowa Curtis Woodwork 1944 Soft Cover Fine Condition
I love when a nice ephemera item is hiding extras on the same subject. I bought the main booklet and -- surprise! -- I got two extra small booklets about kitchens and entrances and a letter from the company. Home builders knew that after the war there would be many people, especially veterans, yearning for a home of their own. The building trade started early to feed the pent-up desire, but by the time this advertising came out the end of the war was only a year away -- 1945. The yellow pamphlets measures 3-1/2" x 6-1/4". The large booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 15 pages covering windows, exterior doors, interior doors, built-in china cabinets, stairways, fireplace mantels, and kitchen cupboards. All items mentioned are included.

6 Nu-Wood: Decorative, Acoustical, Structural, Insulation (1939)
Saint Paul, Minnesota Wood Conversion Company 1939 soft cover Very Good condition
This early Nu-Wood advertising booklet is very clean and nice and quite interesting from the point of view of homeowners and contractors. The company offered more than ceilings and walls. Buyers could get tiles, plank board, wainscot, Kolor-Trim and accessories and moldings. There is a lot of information here, including its use in the building of churches -- which is how I came to have it. I bought this from a company which is still in the business of church renovation inside and out. The boioklet measures 8-1/2" x 10-1/2" and has 30 pages with many photos. not often seen

Operating Instructions Skil Home Shop Oscillating Sander Model 578 (three pieces in original envelope
7 Operating Instructions Skil Home Shop Oscillating Sander Model 578 (three pieces in original envelope
Chicago, Illinois Skil Corporation No date states. soft cover Very good in good envelope
No date here, but there's one clue that tells us this Skil packet precedes the zip code which was introduced in 1963. The envelope is pretty good save some limpness to the flap, a few creases ,and some light soil which proved stubborn despite my efforts with the document pad. Inside are the operating instructions for the Skil Home Shop Model 578 Oscillating Sander, the ABc'S of Your Skil Home Shop Drills; and Skil Tool Home Shop and Homebuilders. Three items in all in the original envelope. The interior pieces are very clean.

The Stanley Tool Guide (1941)
9 The Stanley Tool Guide (1941)
New Britain, Connecticut Stanley Tools 1941 soft cover
This is a very nice clean catalog, oversized at 11" x 12-1/4". It came with its very poor original mailing envelope which fell apart while I was trying to save it. The best I could do given the network of tears and creases and the soft disintegrating edges is to salvage the company's address and its label which I did. The panel will arrive with the catalog. I also repaired with non-browning archival tape several short tears to top edge of cover. Included with the catalog is also a Stanley flyer laid-in advertising the chance to customize tool sets. Pages are various sizes as per design, a plan that works quite well. There's much information and lots of drawings throughout. SHIPS for $2 in the U.S..

Woodwork by Curtis 1946 Retail Sample Book Architectural Detail
10 Woodwork by Curtis 1946 Retail Sample Book Architectural Detail
Clinton, Iowa Curtis Company 1946 Hard Cover Very Good
I love architecture and old homes, so this catalog was a must-have. It's an enormous book used in a retail setting to show the types of moldings, fireplaces, doors, doorways, stairways, and cabinetry available for a 40's home. Huge full-page illustrations, some in black and white and some in full color -- 100 pages in all. The book is spiral bound to lie flat, but a piece of the plastic comb in missing at the very bottom of the spine. Book measures 16"x19" and is clean and nice inside and out with just a small bit of corner wear. Would be very helpful to an architect or designer, but also to someone who is restoring a 40's home.

Antonio Stradivari His Life and work 1644-1737 (1944), Squier, Victor C.
17 Squier, Victor C. Antonio Stradivari His Life and work 1644-1737 (1944)
Battle Creek, Michigan Victor C. Squier 1944 First Edition Card cover Very good condition
This is a new one for me, so it was great fun to find it. The cover is made of heavy cardstock with a mottled paper overlay. You can see light brown, dark brown, reds and greens, especially on the back. I think maybe a couple of the dark ones on the front might be stains, but I'm not sure. The booklet is nicely illustrated and includes genealogical information in addition to the story of one of the most beautiful musical instruments every created. The booklet measures 6-3/4" x 9-3/4" and has 91 pages in quality paper with drawings and black and white photographs.
