1 Amants (Sweethearts) Jeanette MacDonald et Nelson Eddy Collection Romancines (Circa 1938)
Paris, France Editions Lajeunesse circa 1938 Collection Romancines soft cover Very good condition
This French language booklet was published in Paris to tell the story of the 1938 Metro Goldwyn Mayer movie "Sweethearts" starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. Booklet is illustrated with black and white photos from the movie and measures 6" x 9" with 15 pages of text. It appears to be part of a collection of booklets telling the stories of romantic films. 3 Movie Life Year Book No. 12 1951 Judy Garland Elizabeth Taylor
New York Ideal Publishing 1951 soft cover Good-plus
If you love old movies these vintage Year Books are great fun. This issue has 1000 pictures, hundreds of which are candids. Each star is given one spread with larger pictures and then pages of smaller pictures, eight or nine to a page. This issue contains Jane Powell, Scott Brady, Esther Williams, Alan Ladd, Judy Garland, Mona Freeman, Elizabeth Taylor and Barbara Hale. There are also stories about who got married, who made their film debut and stars around the globe. As always, the paper has toned due to high acididty, but the magazine is clean and tightly bound. 13 Grady,Lester (editor) Radio Stars Magazine December 1937 (Jeanette MacDonald, Kitty Carlisle)
Dunellen, New Jersey Dell Publishing 1937 soft cover Very Good
In the heyday of radio Radio Stars Magazine was the biggest publication of its kind. So many of the movie stars got their break on radio before they hit the big screen. The cover of this issue features Jeanette McDonald fresh off her honeymoon, plus a story about the then very young Kitty Carlisle. Some of the names have faded, but it's interesting to get a bird's eye view of the radio stars when radio was a Big Thing. There's also gossip and a complete coast to coast radio guide. magazine measures 8-1/2" x 11-1/2" and has 92 pages. Magazine is clean and tightly bound with just a 3" area of staining to spine and a few small spots of wear to top front edge. Overall nice.

Beautifully kept magazine with Ava Gardner on the cover. There are no defects of note save one crease to lower front corner which I treated with invisible archival tape on the reverse side. This magazine has a lot of short pieces in it's Merry-Go-Round section, but also lots of full length ones for the rest. Top articles include Gypsy In Her Soul, Rita Hayworth; This Is Forever Darling, Lana Turner; Self-Portrait, June Allyson; Where There's Hope, There's Fun, Bob Hope; Phony Love Affairs of Hollywood; My Wife, Betty Grable; How A Redhead Gets Ahead, Rhonda Fleming; and much more. Louisville, Kentucky Fawcett Publications 1939 Vol. XXI, No. 9 soft cover Very Good Condition
This is a fun issue with articles about Merle Oberon and David Niven, Mickey Rooney saying he's NOT girl crazy, bad boy Bogart, and how Vivien Leigh landed the role of a lifetime -- Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. There's also a great article titled Hollywood Strikes Back at Hitler which covers the formation of the Committee of 56, headed by Melvyn Douglas and devoted to letting Hitler and the American people know that members were unforgiving of Hitler's anti-Semetic atrocities. Members included stars, producers, directors and writers. Among them were Rosalind Russell, Myrna Loy, Lucille Ball, Groucho Marx, Bette Davis, Dick Powell and Don Ameche. Magazine is crisp and clean with no label. It measures 8-3/4" x 11" and has 82 pages. Only fault is a very small stain to outer side edge which gets lighter and lighter as the pages flip by. This magazine is a merger of two movie mags -- Motion Picture and Hollywood in the same binding. The cover shows Maureen O'Hara, the beautiful Irish red-haired actress who died in 2015. This issue is from 1944, so it's no surprise that the contents cover how WWII affected Hollywood. The big story is Hedda Hopper's insider details of Deanna Durbin's divorce. There's also a new feature which appeared for the first time -- What Makes A Star? -- and a look at the troops in Italy. Other stars covered are Lucille Ball, Gary Cooper, Esther Williams, Gregory Peck, Merle Oberon, Loretta Young and more. Magazine is clean with no names or writing and no tears or creases. 20 Reid, Laurence (editor) Movie Classics Magazine October, 1932 (Gwili Andre Cover)
Motion Picture Publications Stanly V. Gibson 1932 Vol. 3, No. 2 soft cover Good condition
Beautiful cover taken first as a photograph by the renowned Cecil Beaton and then turned into a painting from the brush of Marland Stone. The subject is Gwili Andre who was new to Hollywood, discovered by the RKO studio. Prior to that though she had been the highest paid gown model in New York. Bing Crosby Broadcasts the Date of His Surrender; A Mysterious Blonde Enters Chaplin's Life; Johnny Weissmuller and Wife Part and more.
