American Photography, November 1932
1 American Photography, November 1932
Boston, MA American Photographic Publishing Co. 1933 Vol. XXVII, No. 11 soft cover Very good
This is a wonderful look at photographic history. It's not a magazine for the casual Kodak owner, but a serious look at photographic technology as it was in 1933. Articles cover exposure and development; photographic Christmas cards with hand-drawn borders; development with paraphenylenediamine; aerial photography with a rebuilt reflecting camera; the photographic translation of color into monochrome; telephoto pictures and infra red plates and much more. Lots to read. Illustrated with black and white photographs. Many ads too for photographic equipment. Magazine is clean and tightly bound. Measures 7" x 9-3/4". Only fault is light toning to back cover. See last photo.

Kodakery Magazines June, July 1931
10 Kodakery Magazines June, July 1931
Rochester, New York Kodak International Good-plus
In this digital age when cameras are built into phones it's amazing that only 82 years ago a relatively primitive Kodak would be state of the art. The Kodak camera is not be dismissed lightly though, as it brought home photography to the masses. The little magazines (I love the name Kodakery!) encourage amateurs to enter a big money contest with lots of tips and ideas. Great photos throughout of weddings, children etc. There's articles about what makes pictures interesting, the new Kodak Verichrome film, tips on nature pictures and more. Magazines measure a small 5-1/2"x7-1/2" and are clean and tightly bound.

Mr. Lincoln Sits For His Portrait (Life Magazine 30th Anniversary, 1966)
13 Mr. Lincoln Sits For His Portrait (Life Magazine 30th Anniversary, 1966)
U.S.A. Time Inc. 1966 Card cover Near fine condition
I've never seen this before, but it was actually plentiful in its day. It's only proved to be ephemeral over time. The last issue of Look Magazine for the year 1966 sported a photography theme, so a keepsake about Lincoln's portraits was the perfect little extra. Other than some rust to the staples, this little booklet is as crisp and clean as new. The photo is very handsome and there are five pages of text. It measures 5" x 7". Nice item for a Lincoln collector. (History III)

Real Photo Postcard Little Girl and Her Uncle
14 Real Photo Postcard Little Girl and Her Uncle
Wisconsin AZO paper 1913 Good condition
A lovely real photo post card dated 1913 on the back. The writer was the man in the photo and also the uncle of the cute little girl standing on the settee beside him. Her name was Hazel and he had this to say about her, "she is a little chatter box while we are here alone." The card was sent to Camp Douglas, Wisconsin. The stamp fell off the card at some point, but the box shows that it is a real photo printed on AZO paper with all four corner triangles pointing up. Card shows a superficial crease to left side which is not visible on the back, some minor edge wear and light residue from stamp. Card will arrive in brand new plastic sleeve.

16 Bellamy, Gail Poetography: 10th Anniversary in Cleveland Heights Art (2010)
Coventry Village, Cleveland Heights, Ohio Community Partnership for arts and Culture 2010 Card cover Very Good condition
I LOVE this booklet which is the work of Cleveland Heights poets and photographers, hence the word poetography. They're very adept at combining photographs and poetry, but they are not alone. Poetography is a movement which melds words and images for a deeper experience. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" with 27 pages. Photos are in both color and black and white.

Jackson's Famous Photographs of the St. Louis Exposition and
17 Brown, Charles Walter Jackson's Famous Photographs of the St. Louis Exposition and "The Pike"; Louisiana Purchase Exposition - Over 200 Views and Scenes 1803-1904
Chicago Metropolitan Syndicate Press 1904 Soft cover Good
The cover of this desirable booklet shows light freckling around the edges and a one inch loss of paper to the top of spine. The latter I covered with archival tape which doesn't brown and will keep the damage contained. The photographs are wonderful -- over 200 views and scenes. It says also on the front cover that there's to be a map too, but I don't have one. With the map and none of the problems mentioned it would have been twice the price. Booklet measures 5-1/4" x 7-1/4" and is clean and tightly bound. Among the highlights are palaces, pavilions for countries, animals, the Great Siberian Railway, rides, craft demonstrations, night time electric illumination and more.

Cruise of the S.S.Nieuw Amsterdam II (40-plus Photos in Portfolio), D'Emery, Charles
18 D'Emery, Charles Cruise of the S.S.Nieuw Amsterdam II (40-plus Photos in Portfolio)
Locations Vary Publisher Unknown Unknown Date Hard cover portfolio Good condition
Here we have a rigid portfolio filled with more than 40 professional-looking black and white prints, each measuring 8" x 10-3/4". They are all clean and nice with just some waviness to the two short ends which would never show if matted and framed. Most of the pictures are described on the back in blue pen. A few, however, show the photographer as Charles D'Emery, Manugian Studios South Norwalk, Connecticut. The cruise aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam took passengers to Brazil, primarily to Rio; and to Jamaica, Peru, Chile, Panama and Cuba (Havana.) There are also wonderful photos of the ship in day and night. As you can see, the portfolio bears the owner's name and states that it's volume 2. I had hoped the the photo with all the people might be a clue as to when this cruise took place, but it's just a Neptune party celebrating crossing the equator. Research shows the the S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam launched first in 1905 and remained in service until 1932. But the one that's responsible for this portfolio was the second S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam which began in 1937 and ended in 1974. Subsequent liners with the same name were Dedicated M.S. Nieuw Amsterdam.
