Aberdeen The Silver City by the Sea Holiday Pictorial (Scotland Travel 1930's)
1 Aberdeen The Silver City by the Sea Holiday Pictorial (Scotland Travel 1930's)
Aberdeen,Scotland Aberdeen Corporation circa 1930's soft cover Very good
Very handsome travel guide which measure 5-1/2"x 8-1/2" with 112 pages. The best part is the black and white photographs which emphasize fun better than most such publications of the era. Here the emphasis is on action shots of tourists and natives alike dancing, fishing, swimming, riding carnival rides and just plain acting silly. There are also scenic shots and lots of info on stuff to do, places to stay, restaurants, and Scottish things to buy. There's a fold-out map in the center of the book, but there's no date. However, given the cars in the ads and the clothing on the people it's got to be the 30's.

Black and White Scotch Whiskey Bridge Tally Tablet
2 Black and White Scotch Whiskey Bridge Tally Tablet
London and Glasgow James Buchanan and Company LTD. No date Hard cover folder Good folder, Very good items inside
Love the black and white Scotties who pose for all things Scotch whiskey.I had one of these bridge tally folders years ago, but without the pencil which this one has. The pencil's cool because it too is marked Black and White along its length. The tally pad has all the pages, but only the first one is toned because it's against the printing inside the folder. The folder tells how to play Bridge and how to score. Folder measures 4" x 7-3/4" and opens up to twice that much. The only faults are a little light foxing to the white vinyl part of the front cover. The back is covered in paper which shows a skim of foxing almost all over it. But it's a nice collectible and is complete.

Carnarvon and North Wales Illustrated Guide Book (Ward Lock and Company 1921-22)
3 Carnarvon and North Wales Illustrated Guide Book (Ward Lock and Company 1921-22)
London Ward Lock and Company 1921-22 Eighth Edition Hard cover Good condition
A trip to Wales in the early 1920's provided beautiful hotels, many sites to be seen, and lots of information in a guide such as this one. The guide measures 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" and has six clean, nice fold-out maps as well as other city plan in text. There are also illustrated with black and white photographs and ads for things needed for the tourist. The only faults are some wrinkles to the spine and few small tears to some map which I repaired with archival tape which is almost invisible. There's only one tear per map due to the need to be careful when opening.

Edinburgh International Festival Souvenir Programme 1965
4 Edinburgh International Festival Souvenir Programme 1965
Edinburgh, Scotland Edinburgh Festival Society Ltd. 1965 Card cover Good condition
Thumbing through the many pages (54 plus ads) makes you want to go to the next one. It's all about the arts -- many arts -- painting, music, singing, poetry, theatre, and a film festival with two whole weeks to enjoy it. Some of the highlights of the 1965 festival include five orchestras, a Corot exhibition, the Netherlands chamber choir, Indian music, Poets in Public, opera, treasures of Romanian art, live theater, and the Military Tattoo. Great black and white photos throughout, plus info on the various offerings day by day. Program measures 7-1/4" x 10-1/4". There's a bit of wear to front cover as you can see, but program is tightly bound with pristine pages

Whether with red or purple ink, this popular music booklet is like an old friend. I've sold several over the years. Contents include both instruction )with a few photographs) and music, including marches, quicksteps, laments, and Strathspey's reels and country dances. There's also Piobaireachd Exercises.

7 Program: The Regimental Band of the Scots Guards the Pipes, Drums & Highland Dancers of the Black Watch (1983)
New York Columbia Artists Festival Corp. 1983 soft cover Good
Nice, clean oversized program which measures 9"x12" and is illustrated throughout with both black and white and color photographs. Pages are not numbered, but I counted 22, all filled with information about the Scots Guards, the Black Watch and the Regimental Band, as well as about the Highland dancing and the bagpipe. The Romance of Scotland 1932 Travel Brochure
9 The Romance of Scotland 1932 Travel Brochure
England London Midland and Scottish Railway 1932 soft cover
A charming graphic and a map so crisp that I felt like the first person to open it! There's a tiny tear at the top of one of the folds, but I repaired it with a tiny piece of nonbrowning archival tape. The brochure measures 4"x9-1/2" folded, but then opens to 8" wide. It's printed on coated paper and has photogrpahs in black and white with the crisp map at back. Unpaginated, but I counted 25.

The Scottish Annual and Book of the Braemar Gathering 1957
10 The Scottish Annual and Book of the Braemar Gathering 1957
Scotland Braemar Royal Highland Society 1957 Card cover Good condition
This one has much to say in 326 pages, plus interesting advertising for hotels, perfume, office machines, clothing and much more in the back section. The best ads though are in the front with full color pictures -- especially the ad for Rolex watches. The annual measures 8-1/4" x 11". The yapped edges have been trimmed due to many small tears. The overhangs were scissored fairly well, but there is one little glitch to the outer side of the front cover. I also repaired two small tears with archival tape, one to front, and one to back. Among the article topics are a visit to Balmoral for the young Queen Victoria and a historic group in 1896; Scotland's Rare Fane; Housekeeping in Scotland in 1834; the Arrival of Queen Elizaeth to Balmoral in 1957;and Through the Royal Forest to Braemar. And those just a few things!
