Architecture and Construction in Cincinnati: A Guide to Building Designers and Builders (Volume One, 1987)
1 Architecture and Construction in Cincinnati: A Guide to Building Designers and Builders (Volume One, 1987)
Cincinnati, Ohio Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati 1987 First Edition Card cover Very good condition
I love the way this guide mimics the skyscrapers which bracket the two tall buildings on the cover. The book itself is tall and narrow and measures 4" x 9" with 195 pages. In addition to all types of architecture there are six tours you can take in the city, plus one in nearby Kentucky, another at Mariemont and one featuring sculptures and other art. The guide is wonderful with many black and white photos.

Arts & Decoration Combined with The Spur March, 1941 (Golf, Policed Dogs, Horses in the Carolinas)
2 Arts & Decoration Combined with The Spur March, 1941 (Golf, Policed Dogs, Horses in the Carolinas)
Stroudsbuerg, PA. Artspur Publications 1941 soft cover Very good condition
This is a marriage of two magazines -- Arts & Decoration and The Spur. The Spur was quite large (I have some issues listed here), but the combined magazine is slimmer and smaller at 10" x 12-1/2" with 50 pages. Subjects include the police dog, horses and equestrian sport in the Carolinas, golf in the Bahamas, valley ranching in Wyoming, American crafts, rugs and mirrored walls.

Bathrooms Kitchens and Heating After
3 Bathrooms Kitchens and Heating After "V" Day By Crane Co. (1940's Relevant Ephemnera Laid-in)
Chicago, Illinois Crane Company 1940's Soft cover Fine condition
This is more dream book than working catalog because it was printed while WWII raged on. The Crane Company knew there would be no building or remodeling until after Victory Day, but they also knew that people had stockpiled lots of war bonds for later. It was a good move because it sparked both creativity and interest while consumers waited. The booklet is filled with kitchens, baths, and heating and plumbing items. It measures 8-1/4" x 11" and has 21 colorful pages with only a few in black and white. Also laid-in is a booklet of the same size which shows many choices in various categories. Each item is drawn and has a little box to check your favorites. The previous owner has checked them in pencil, but I left it because it's fun to see what items appealed. You can erase if desired.

Beautiful Windows By Judd (1930's)
4 Beautiful Windows By Judd (1930's)
New York City Draper Fixtures by Judd Circa-1930's soft cover Very Good
I have a soft spot for interior design items so of course this one jumped right into my hand! Its very attractive with a green suede-like cover printed in gilt at face. The paper is coated and the pictures are quite lovely -- vignettes of rooms showing windows augmented by curtain hardware used as decoration. Judd did't sell window treatments -- they sold upscale window hardware. The booklet measures 6"x9-3/4" and 32 illustrated pages. Each spread describes (much text) something different such as cornices and swinging cranes, how to decorate windows in specific rooms, how to pleat drapes, and how to measure. Lovely!

Bermuda Houses and Gardens (1973)
5 Bermuda Houses and Gardens (1973)
Bermuda The Garden Club of Bermuda 1973 Second edition Card Cover Good-plus
This is an oversized booklet measuring 9" x 12" with 81 clean, tightly bound pages. The only faults are some toning to a few areas of the white back cover and former owner's name and address in upper front corner of first page. The booklet is lavishly illustrated with black and white photographs of the interiors and exteriors of some of the island's most stunning residences at the time of writing, many of which were already 300 years old! Very handsomely presented on quality coated paper.

Build Beauty, Economy, Permanence into your Home with Curtis Woodwork (1944)
7 Build Beauty, Economy, Permanence into your Home with Curtis Woodwork (1944)
Clinton. Iowa Curtis Woodwork 1944 Soft Cover Fine Condition
I love when a nice ephemera item is hiding extras on the same subject. I bought the main booklet and -- surprise! -- I got two extra small booklets about kitchens and entrances and a letter from the company. Home builders knew that after the war there would be many people, especially veterans, yearning for a home of their own. The building trade started early to feed the pent-up desire, but by the time this advertising came out the end of the war was only a year away -- 1945. The yellow pamphlets measures 3-1/2" x 6-1/4". The large booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 15 pages covering windows, exterior doors, interior doors, built-in china cabinets, stairways, fireplace mantels, and kitchen cupboards. All items mentioned are included.

Christie's Auction Catalog: The Connoisseur's Eye New York 2 June, 2015
8 Christie's Auction Catalog: The Connoisseur's Eye New York 2 June, 2015
New York City Christie's 2015 #10859 Card cover Fine condition
I love the contemporary auction catalog, so beautiful compared to the ones of old with paper covers and no color pictures. The new ones are also oversized -- this one measures 8-1/4" x 10-1/2" and has gorgeous white coated paper and big color photos of the items. The auction offered European furniture, sculpture, ceramics, tapestries and carpets worth millions of dollars. The book is pristine inside and out and showcases 438 lots.

Edgar B. Fine Furniture and Furnishings, 1995
10 Edgar B. Fine Furniture and Furnishings, 1995
North Carolina Broyhill Inc. 1995 Volume XI Card cover Very good condition
Very handsome catalog for Edgar B., a Broyhill company which went bankrupt the year this catalog was published, despite a successful 16 year run. The book is quite large at 9-1/4"x12-1/2", printed on glossy paper, and sporting 308 pages. Both it, and its accompanying 60 page price list, is clean and nice with no names or writing. Light toning to plain white back cover of the main book only real fault. What's interesting is the sticker at bottom which assigned the named client with her own personal number and consultant. Gorgeous color ohotos of furniture and accessories for all rooms of the house -- and even for the deck or patio.

11 Fine Oriental Rugs and Carpets Sotheby Parke Bernet Auction Catalog (June 4, `1976)
New York City Sotheby Parke Benet 1976 Card cover Very good condition
This catalogue represented Sale Number 3866 which was devoted to fine Oriental rugs and carpets from the estates of Helen L. Wilson, Amelia M. Martin, and Anne S. Nealon. One rug unfurls in full color at the center of the catalog -- beautiful! These were really exceptional even in black and white, as many show figurals in the design and all are exquisitely complex. The auction was a one day only sale with two sessions in which 225 rugs were sold. Catalog measures 9" x 9-and is clean and tightly bound. No writing inside.

13 Genius Loci The Four Seasons Hotel Milan, Italy
Milano, Itlay Four Seasons Regent Hotel 1996 limited ed. #1980 of 5000 Card cover Very good condition
Not only is this beautiful, but it has overlays which add even more beauty to the pages. There are gorgeous full color photographs of both the exterior and interior. The text, which is substantial, tells the story of how the hotel became to be given the fact that it almost didn't happen because of the dicovery of a cloister. the project took longer than expected, but a good solution saved the day. The booklet measures 8-1/4" x 11-3/4" and has 40 exquisite pages. The only problem is minor edge wear and a small crease to the upper fornt corner.

Hope's
14 Hope's "Biltin" Subframes and No. 2040 Subframes (1949)
Jamestown, New york Hope's Windows Inc. April, 1949 Publication No. 122 Soft cover Very good condition
This is a very interesting booklet advertising contemporary windows for architectural builds. Two pages have new information stapled over the material beneath it. The original was also red X'd, but you can still read that too (see photo). Actually it's a good thing because it shows company momentum.T he drawings are really attractive and all eight pages (not counting the x-d ones) are filled with it. The cover photo is the work done on the Firestone Research Laboratory in Akron, Ohio. Rather scarce.

House Beautiful Magazine May, 1933
15 House Beautiful Magazine May, 1933
Concord, New Hampshire The Hosue Beauytiful Publishing Co. 1933 New England Edition soft cover Very good condition
Crisp and incredibly clean -- the pages of this magazine are like new. This isue shows a special New England segment which introduces the love of fishing, tennis, and Bennington College, plus a renovation from stable to house, and a Rockport, Mass. home renovation. There are also gardens, notes from the southwest, French cooking utensils, and bargello needlework. But the most eye-catching is the article "Design For Living: House Number Four of the Home and Industrial Arts Group at the Century of Progress, New York World's Fair, 1933." Magazine measures 10" x 13". Only fault is some small chips to outer side of lower front cover and a few areas on spine strip which needed repair. I used non-browning archival tape to secure it and it's almost invisble. See main picture. .

House Beautiful Magazine October, 1928
16 House Beautiful Magazine October, 1928
Concord, New Hmapshire House Beautiful Publishing Corporation Vol. LXIV, No. IV soft cover Very Good condition
The cover art of these magazines scream "come hither!" They're bold, colorful and graphically sensational. I was at an auction which had six boxes of them.To say they were a hit is an understatement -- they sold in a frenzy for more money than they should have. I got the last box, which was as good as the rest, but at the end of the frenzy. There's much to read here about homes and gardens with gorgeous full color ads for house items -- roofs, tiles, paints etc.. One of the more interesting stories is about the scissor craft of silhouette making and William Henry Brown who long ago snipped out beautiful images. Other articles cover peony walks, Holland bulbs, wisteria, Pompeiian gardens, house renovations, a well appointed desk, china services on display in Paris, architecture, stone versus stone masonry and much more. The magazine is oversized at 10" x 12-1/2" and is an inch thick. SHIPS FOR $2 IN THE U.S.

How to Build A Better Home / Copper and Brass Research Association
17 How to Build A Better Home / Copper and Brass Research Association
New York Copper and Brass Research Association circa 1920's-30's soft cover Very good
Very nice booklet oversized at 8"x10-1/2" Though clearly an advertising vehicle for the Copper and Brass Research Association, the contents are most impressive -- NOT a "fluff piece." It's illustrated throughout with both photographs and drawings with the emphasis on the use of brass and copper as an investment for the future -- copper roofs, copper leaders and gutters, brass plumbing, and copper, brass or bronze hardware. Booklet has 31 pages and is clean and tightly bound. The top front edge shows evidence of something stamped on it at one time, but is smudged. There is no date, and few clues, but a drawing of a family in front of a house indicate by woman's clothing that it's 1920's or 30's.
