24 Success Articles From American Preservation Magazines
1 24 Success Articles From American Preservation Magazines
U.S.A. American Preservation Unknown date Unknown edition Disbound Articles Very Good Condition
I found these disbound articles in a box of Architectual Review Magazines which I bought at auction. I almost tossed them out until I realized how worthy they are. Each of the 24 focuses on a particular area within a state located anywhere in the country. They all derived from American Preservation magazine, so the color photographs are stunning. Each article is pretty long with many images. I wish I had more room to show them. Areas are these: New Orleans Lower Garden District; Providence, Rhode Island; Salem Massachusetts; Eutaw, Alabama's Greek Revival Architecture; Galveston, Texas; Mizner's Eden Palm Beach's Flamboyant Architecture; Brownsville, Texas; Waterford, Virginia; Helena, Montana; Columbus, Georgia; Madison, Indiana; Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Key West, Florida; Jacksonville, Oregon; Mt. Auburn in Cincinnati, Ohio; Manchester area of Pittsburgh; Savannah, Georgia; Powelton Village, Philadelphia; Saratoga Springs, New York; Crested Butte in the Rocky Mts.; Detroit's Woodward East; Oakland cemetery; Galena, Illinois and Bay View, A Summer Resort in Michigan. All are clean and stapled. Will still ship for $2 media in the U.S. as always.

Beautiful inside and out. It appears that this is a regular publication of the museum, but this issue is a special one. Lots of color art throughout with three major illustrated articles. These cover the following exhibits Arshile Gorky: The Breakthrough Years Jan.14 -- March 17, 1996; Ruckus Rodeo by Red Grooms at the Modern at Sundance Square Jan. 19 -- April 21, 1996; and Howard Hodgkin Paintings 1975-1995 March 31-July 14, 1996. Interesting articles at back too which share new acquisitions. Exhibition booklet is crisp and clean measuring 8-1/2" x 11" with 24 pristine pages.

United Federation of Doll Clubs 1996 Annual Convention Souvenir Book in Box Dallas, Texas
3 United Federation of Doll Clubs 1996 Annual Convention Souvenir Book in Box Dallas, Texas
Dallas Texas United Federation of Doll Clubs 1996 soft cover
What a beautiful souvenir of the 47th Annual United Federation of Doll Clubs held August 4-9, 1996 in Dallas, Texas. The box itself is so pretty -- opens at the side to reveal a soft cover book entitled Beautiful Children which fits perfectly inside and was printed especially for the purpose. The book contains lovely illustrations in both color and black and white which, along with the text, celebrate children everywhere. Also included is a small card which explains the souvenir doll that was also produced. The book measures 5-1/2"x7-1/2". Very unique!

Texas On Paper Organized and Curated by Cheryl A. Brutvan and Linda Cathcart (1982-84), Brutvan, Cheryl; Cathcart, Linda (Curators)
4 Brutvan, Cheryl; Cathcart, Linda (Curators) Texas On Paper Organized and Curated by Cheryl A. Brutvan and Linda Cathcart (1982-84)
New York Independent Curators Incorporated and the Houston Contemporary Arts Museum 1982 Card cover
This is not the usual art catalog which presents the works in booklet form. This one is a portfolio which contains fifteen cards measuring 8" x 11" with the works on the front and the artist's biography on the back. The fifteen artists are these and all are accounted for: Linda Blackburn, Suzanne Hitt Bocanegra, Jean A. Dibble, Michael Doga, Vernon Fisher, Roberto Munguia, Bradley R. Petersen, Jim Poag, Albert T. Scherbarth, Charles Schorre, Gael Stack, Earl Staley, William Steen, James Surls, and Danny Williams. There are also three more cards which offer commentary from the curators, plus an errata page. All cards are clean and nice, as is the folder, though the latter has a small crease to the upper corner which I have re-enforced on the back with a small piece of archival tape. This is a fairly scarce item considering that the exhibit traveled for three years in Boulder, Colorado; Abilene Texas; Tyler, Texas; Buffalo, New York; Tucson, Arizona; and Amarillo, Texas.

The Big Bend of the Rio Grande (1971 Maps and Ephemera at Back. Guide 7), Maxwell, Ross A.
5 Maxwell, Ross A. The Big Bend of the Rio Grande (1971 Maps and Ephemera at Back. Guide 7)
Austin, Texas Bureau of Economic Geology / university of Texas at Austin 1971 Third printing Card cover Very good Condition
I had one of these some years ago, but I don't remember there being so many pertinent pieces of ephemera in the pocket located inside the back cover. The book itself is wonderful with black and white photographs, maps, and a lengthy text filling 138 pages. It's a guide to the rocks, the geologic history of the area, and the settlers of the area of Big Bend National Park in Texas. The big colorful map is a geological one and its not just big -- it's VERY BIG and in excellent condition. There are also two smaller maps of the Big Bend National Park, a foldout showing the structure sections of Marathon Basin, and a fold-out which provides a panorama view of The Basin in the Chisos Mts., Big Bend National Park. Everything is clean and bright. There is a small sticker in the upper corner of the back cover which says "This book belongs to", but no one used it.

6 Mills, Elizabeth Shown; Mills, Gary Bernard National Genealogical Society Quarterly (September, 1987)
Arlington, Virginia National Genealogy Society 1987 Volume 75, No. 3 soft cover Very Good Condition
Very nice, crisp magazine, the only fault of which is minor -- retains a mailing label on plain back cover. Measures 7" x 10" and has 59 pages. The following are the complete list of articles: Interpreting Headrights in Colonial Virginia Patents-- Uses and Abuses; The Jena Choctaw --A Case Study in the Documentation of Indian Tribal Identity; Genealogical Research in Texas -- A Bibliographical Guide; Henry Howland of Duxbury, Massachusetts 1633; and East Florida Emigrants to the United States, 1780's. I have many, many genealogical magazines, so if you're looking for one let me know and I'll look.
