The Vermonter Magazine 1903 (Twelve Issues -- Full Run)
1 The Vermonter Magazine 1903 (Twelve Issues -- Full Run)
St. Albans, Vermont C.S. Forbes 1903 soft cover Good to Very Good Very good
Twelve issues -- a full run of this historic Vermont magazine for the year 1903. All are clean and tightly bound with the following faults: chipping to the bottom edge of front cover of one, browning to edges of white cover of another, light fading to cover edges of all of the brightly colored covers, and wrinkling to first page of the issue with the chipping which we were able to flatten in book press. Interiors of some shows toning to paper at edges and one has a snip missing off corner of one page. Among the topics covered are: Catholics, Protestants, Jews , Unitarians and Universalists in Vermont; Vermont's military history to date; History of Vermont's medicine and surgery; the scenic attractions of Vermont; Vermont's educational history; dedications of memorials in Fairfield and Stowe; the town of Bradford; China at War with the World written in two parts; and the Vermont State Grange. Also, nice is the spotlight on Vermont's fair women. Magazines measure 7-1/4"x10-1/4". Other early issues available.

The Vermonter Magazine April, 1905 (Grand Army Number)
2 The Vermonter Magazine April, 1905 (Grand Army Number)
St. Albans, Vermont Charles S. Forbes 1905 Vol. X, No. 9 Card cover Very good condition
This is a very nice issue both in terms of condition and content. There is only light toning to cover -- the pages are clean and bright and the magazine shows no wear to spine. The issue is devoted to the Grand Army of the Republic and how it impacted the state of Vermont. One of the most important players was Col. Wheelock G. Veazey who was commander-in-chief of the Grand Army and is pictured at front across from the introduction article of this magazine written by ex-governor, Frederick Holbrook. Text is ample and and has many portraits of distinguished military men of the day and prior to those in the Civil War. I counted 22 pages about the GAR. Nice ads also capture the culture of the turn of the century. Magazine measures 7" x 10"

The Vermonter Magazine March, 1906
3 The Vermonter Magazine March, 1906
White River Junction, Vermont Charles R. Cummings, Publisher 1906 New Series Volume XI, No. 8 Card cover Very good condition
I love these Vermont magazines. I bought quite a lot at an estate sale some years ago, but I only posted five and one full run of 12 issues, so it's time to add a couple. This one is very interesting, as most of the pages are covering the biography of Rear Admiral Charles E. Clark, U.S. Navy. The article is titled From Mobile Bay to Santiago: An Authorized Biography, including pictures. Clark was a Vermonter which is why he got so much ink. The magazine also has great ads ( see the picture of the back cover). the magazine measures 6-1/2" x 9-1/2 and has 96 pages. The only fault is a small tear to the outer side of the page. I mended it with archival tape, so you can hardly see it.

The Vermonter: A Well-Spring of New Thought, Experience and Illustration (July-August, 1906)
4 The Vermonter: A Well-Spring of New Thought, Experience and Illustration (July-August, 1906)
White River Junction, Vermont Charles R. Cummings 1906 Volume XI, No.12-13 Soft copver Good-plus
Other than a small repair to the upper spine at front cover the magazine is very nicely kept. The repair feels as though it was done with archival tape which doesn't turn brown and is very subtle. The magazine tends to focus on a theme -- in this case it's about luring travelers to the state with hotels. The rest is about various areas of interest -- Manchester in the mountains, Lull's Brook, a mountain directory, Elmore Mountain, the charm of Memphremagog, and the story of Grass Mount, a stately home in Burlington. There's also atrue story of Vermont titled Moonlight and A Bear. the magazine has many photos and is clean and tightly bound. It measures 6-1/4" and 9-3/4". Nice ads at back.

The Vermonter A State Magazine September, 1902 (Modern St. Albans), Forbes, Charles S.
5 Forbes, Charles S. The Vermonter A State Magazine September, 1902 (Modern St. Albans)
St Albans, Vermont Charles S. Forbes 1902 Septembernumber soft cover Very good condition
I love this magazine -- very few provide a focus and stick with it from page one to done. This one is all about the city of St. Albans, Vermont. The reason for this choice is the fact that 1902 was the year that St. Albans went from the status of town (incorporated in 1859) to full-sized city. There's lots of pictures in these 70 pages, plus great ads for St. Albans products and services. The city is located near the Canadian border. The long article offers much history and information about its evolution. The magazine measures 7"x 10" and is clean and tightly bound. Only fault is a small bit of toning to margins of front cover.

The Vermonter A State Magazine, June, 1902 (A Study In Bird-Loving), Forbes, Charles S. (editor)
6 Forbes, Charles S. (editor) The Vermonter A State Magazine, June, 1902 (A Study In Bird-Loving)
St. Albans, Vermont Charles S. Forbes 1902 soft cover Very Good Condition
I love this magazine -- very few provide a focus and stick with it from page one to done. This time the subject is "bird-loving". It's not about hunting -- it's focused on walking with your eyes open and maybe with a camera. The funny thing is there's not a picture of a single bird. It's all for you to imagine in the beautiful scenery. The author is Lucy Dunbar Denison and she had trekked all over the state to write this long article about the various birds she discovered and loved. If you're a birder this one's for you!
