Playhouse Square Urban Design Guidelines (Cleveland, Ohio 1985)
2 Playhouse Square Urban Design Guidelines (Cleveland, Ohio 1985)
Cleveland, Ohio Cleveland City Planning Commisssion; Kaczmar Architects Inc.' Greater Cleveland Growth Association 1985 soft cover Fine
Beautiful as new planning guide used to design Cleveland's fabulous Playhouse Square entertainment area. Yes, it's book-sized, but it was produced for temporary use which qualifies it as ephemera. It's a big one measuring 8-3/4" tall and 13" wide, bound with a plastic comb. The book has 136 pages with black and white photographs, drawings, and maps. An interesting study of urban planning. NOTE: Due to size and weight overseas orders will incur higher shipping. Please contact us with destination for a quote. U.S. orders ship for $2.

3 Frost, R.B. Lorain, Ohio; A Study In Urban Geography
Ohio Unknown Unknown Reprint soft cover Very Good
An amazingly hard to find booklet which is actually a reprint of the original publication which appeared in the Ohio Journal of Science Vol. XXXV, No. 3, May 1935. It's presented here with the exact pagination of the original and funded with a grant-in-aid from the trustees of the Research Fund of the Ohio Academy OF Science. The booklet is illustrated with maps (including one fold-out) and photographs, the latter printed on coated paper. Part I covers The Natural Environment; Part II covers Sequent Stages of Occupance (1755-1894); and Part III covers the Modern Landscape.

The Terminal Tower Complex 1930-1980; First printing SIGNED, Jim Toman and Dan Cook
4 Jim Toman and Dan Cook The Terminal Tower Complex 1930-1980; First printing SIGNED
Clevleand, Ohio Cleveland Landmarks Press Inc. 1980 093676001x / 9780936760018 First printing Stated Card cover Fine condition
Crisp, clean book with pristine pages and page edges. No names or writing other than having been SIGNED without inscription by both authors. Measures 8-1/2"x11" Illustrated throughout with vintage photos. Cover is fashioned of heavy pebbled paper decorated with much gilt and nice rounded corners. Printed on heavy coated paper. Binding is quite tight, so useage was minimal. It's interesting to note that this book was published at a time when the city of Cleveland was at a low point, having suffered the infamous fire on the Cuyahyoga River and great financial crisis. The purpose of this book and the others planned to accompany it was to shine a light on all that Cleveland had reason to be proud of in the hope that its future might be brighter. Terminal Tower of course was the place to begin, as its the most noteable building on the city's skyline. The text and numerous photos trace the building from 1923 when work began to 1980. Measures 8-1/2" x 11" pages. I have five more of these booklets minus the signatures.

6 Perl, Ralph J. (Mayor) Standard Construction Drawings: City of Cleveland (1972)
Cleveland, Ohio City of Cleveland Division of Engineering and Construction 1972 Soft cover Good condition
If urban topics such as sewers, catch basins, standard pipe, manholes, pavements, traffic dividers, and other such mundane necessities, you'll appreciate these detailed drawings with added numbers and descriptions. The book is very large at 11" x 17" and has 70 pages. there are some small tears to the edges of the back cover which I have mended with archival tape at the reverse side. the front cover has a white sticker on the lower outer corner and a number in red at the upper one. Next to the area next to the top spine is a blemish caused most likely by a price sticker. the pages are clean and there is no writing.

Asian Americans AndTtheir Communities of Cleveland, Stephen Fugita, David Namkoong, Domingo Patawaran; Suey Yee
7 Stephen Fugita, David Namkoong, Domingo Patawaran; Suey Yee Asian Americans AndTtheir Communities of Cleveland
Clevelend, Ohio Celveland Ethnic Heritag Studies Cleveland State University 1977 Second printing Card cover Fine condition
This is one of many ethnic heritage monographs based on a single culture. They have never been easy to find, though I once had six all at once. They sold over time, but I just last year got two more, both of which were replacements from ones I had before. This one is very clean and tightly bound, measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 201 pages. This isn't a booklet, but it was helpful to ask writers from these new nationalities to talk about their lives and ethnicity. As Cleveland began to grow with many Asian immigrants -- Japan, China, Korea, Filipino and Vietnamese -- the books discussed culture, memories (wa and internment camps) food, religion, family life, immigrants through the decades and more.
